I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how to set up usergroups in SMF. The CM & SMF bridge handles CM using the SMF users & permissions, so I get that part of it. What is tripping me up is the post based user groups.
What I have set right now in SMF is:
Administrator
Global Moderator
Moderator
User
SMF User (post based group) set to 0 posts
What I'd like to have happen is everyone who is approved as a new user automatically gets put in the User group. Anyone that needs to have more permissions than the User group will have to be manually moved into another group by the admin. I'd like the post based usergroup to basically be inert.
Can someone give me some direction on how to set this up properly?
Thank you!
I just remembered I've already posted about this topic.... Please disregard. I tried to delete my post but the system won't let me.
Where is this post? I can't seem to find it.

All users are put in the group "regular members" when they register.
So use that group for what ever you want to be the default permission set.
Then make sure your post count groups don't override those permissions.
Then create whatever other groups you wish, to later assign manually to select users.
When you assign a user any other primary (visible) membergroup, they are no longer a part of regular members.

I think we are talking about this Default membergroup upon registration (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=586008.0)
Why don't you use the mod you found in the other post.
This one works wonderfully.
It is also completely unnecessary, from SMF Permissions viewpoint.

This was the post where everything was already answered. I had to put the project away for a few weeks and just now came back to it. I'm having problems with my memory and had forgotten that it was all answered on this thread from June. https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=586008.msg4153210#msg4153210
I was trying to delete the newer thread since it's already been answered.
The only remaining question is how to not let the post based groups override the regular members group....
Never mind!! I'm batting 1000 today. I just found my notes on how to make sure the post based groups don't over ride the non-post based groups. TY!
Set all post count permissions to disallow

It's no problem, this is a surprisingly common question really, not specifically for setting up integrations maybe, but the permission set is one of the more complex areas to set up and comes up surprisingly often in support topics.
And since we don't usually delete valid questions, and repetition is the father of learning... :)
