Title: Database compatability 2.0 to 2.1
Post by: Kestryll on August 05, 2024, 02:51:51 PM
Are the databases from 2.0.19 compatible with the 2.1.4 software?

I'm running 2.0.19 and having issues with updating, if I installed 2.1.4 and connected it to my existing 2.0.19 database would it work?

no the database has to be "upgraded" to make it work.

what issue have you run into?

When I try to run the Large Upgrade' patch to go from 2.0.19 to 2.1.4 I get the following error:

Package upload failed due to the following error:
"Although the package was downloaded to the server it appears to be empty. Please check the Packages directory, and the "temp" sub-directory are both writable. If you continue to experience this problem you should try extracting the package on your PC and uploading the extracted files into a subdirectory in your Packages directory and try again. For example, if the package was called shout.tar.gz you should:
1) Download the package to your local PC and extract it into files.
2) Using an FTP client create a new directory in your "Packages" folder, in this example you may call it "shout".
3) Upload all the files from the extracted package to this directory.
4) Go back to the package manager browse page and the package will be automatically found by SMF."

I have tried every step suggested to no avail.

2.0 to 2.1 is not a simple patch update, it's not very difficult either but simply out of scope of the patch updates. https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Upgrading
