Hello SMF people, as many of you i also fell in love with SMF, and soon I needed to offer my members something which wasnt possible with SMF yet.
And yes it was a gallery, unfortunately at the time i did not know much PHP, so i learned PHP and made myself a gallery, I was so impressed with what i made i decided to create a distributable version which is easyly installed onto a server with any version of SMF installed.
And now I have released V1, the gallery has many different features including:
> Unlimited image display.
> Only members can upload.
> Each uploaded image will say which member uploaded it.
> Ability for members to rate uploaded images (with a capping of 1 rating per member! per image!).
> Members can delete there uploaded images and admins/Mods can delete any members images.
> Add as many categorys as you want.
> The gallery index will say how many images are in each category and an overall amount!
> Recieve a notification when someone uploads an image!
> Setup a preview size for the gallery.
> Set how many images are shown per row in the gallery!!
> Gallery will look like your forums.
> Top XX image posters.
> Top xx image ratings.
> admins can move images to other categorys.
Download the SMF Gallery now! (SMFG) (http://tpvgames.co.uk/web/smfg)
Please could you then post some comments and suggestions either in this forum or the official SMF Gallery forum. http://tpvgames.co.uk/forum/

all images can be viewed by non-members, but they cant be rated! If you meant rating then...
Not at the moment but ill take it as a suggestion, thanks :)

what do you mean?
Yes some people can view it and it seems some cannot :s
<!--

Are needed round your javascript for it to work properly, see the PM I replied to.
Yes thanks for that, totally missed it :p
BTW Guys, I have very nearly finished making the gallery load the style of your skin, it looks really cool and you can view it at the same link as before.
There will be some dramatic changes over the next few days ;) and ideas or suggestions are still welcome!!
Very nice, it looks like its coming along good.
wow! very cool !! :D
thanks alot guys, yes its coming on great now, just finished making it skin to my SMF skin, dunno if it will work with other skins yet, will test that soon :)
looking good :D
very cool, would be cool for group permissions and user albums

Nice ideas there, I will definately try to add those ideas, not in the first release though.
For those waiting for first release, please be patient. Were adding an admin panel for changing options. This will make it much easyer to manage than having a settings file!
Also another idea maybe would be that guests can only see thumbnails and members can see thumbnails and full size images.
Seems nice,
Congrats and good luck ;)
WOW very nice suggestion!, the only problem with that is more skilled PC users would right-click (or if i disable that) view the source and get the full link and open that in the browser, enabling full image.
Unless i went though a massive task trying to hide images using GD or something :p
If anyone has any ideas on this idea then please say so lol, and other suggestions welcome too!!
On a side note again: I have just (20 mins ago actually) finished the ADMIN AREA, now im waiting for my partner to come online so we can finish the installer :)
Glad you like it, I hope you can use it. :-)
Just what I have been needing! When will it be available?

Glad you asked, we are expecting the first BETA release in the next 24 hours :), we already have the gallery installing with just a few bugs that we will be fixing after we have slept :p
See you all in about 7-10 hours time :) at which time I'll continue fixing the gallery ready to release :D
NOTE: The example site may go down for a few hours and will change alot as we start to add the sub-site for SMF Gallery.

Also it would be better if you posted about this on our forums, but here is ok :)

after the install, when i tried to save settings.
1.1rc1 :P
allowed extension gif, jpg,jpeg, png
make sure allowed extensions is as follows:
'gif','.jpg','.jpeg','.png'
If you still get an error then we will have to take more drastic action, ie I would like to see your gallery and maybe have temporary admin access to the gallery. (you can disable all my admin privilages but still give me admin status).
Lets come to that stage if we get there :p

oops i thought you could in SMF, but i cant find how and where, so unfortunately i dont think its possible.
Do me a favour, go into your SQL DB page and check the table named SMF_Gallery_Settings (SMF_Gallery being the prefix you chose).
Then tell me the contents of the row named: limitedext
thanks :)

Do you know what i did wrong? :P
what you got it working now :)
what did you do wrong?
SMF Gallery V1 is now out, you can also download it from our site now :) Have FUN :D
Where do I download this ???
http://tpvgames.co.uk/smfgallery/
Does this install throught the package manager ??? If it does all I get is a corrupt error
no it does not...you upload the unzipped file to your server, then run the install.php. This works best if you put the gallery in it's own folder in the smf root directory.
I have modded some of the files for this to make it so you can call it up as an action from a theme button into an iframe (don't worry...it loogs great there, you can check it out by going to my forum http://www.technodragon.net/forum/index.php but you have to register to get to it)
if you are interested in the files and the general make up of the action url for the buttons on your theme pm me.
I know this is gonna sound stupid, but where is the button on the main forum page for gallery? Anyway I can get it on there? Other than that it installed fine and looks great.
I just installed this and all I get is a blank page and it tells me that I have not ran the installer. Whats up, anyone know ???
@ keith021773: I think if you go to his website there are instructions on how to do that.
I got the above error fixed. Now I`m getting this error on the index of the gallery:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/******/public_html/smf/gallery/func.php on line 42
EDIT: Strange, but error seems to be gone now. I`ll monitor this and see what happens.
what is the link to your gallery? I could take a look and see if i can find out what went wrong.
It all works now, no errors at all. After I uploaded a pic the error went away.
Its a very awesome edition to smf, I love it. I found one problem though, after you upload an image in that popup window and press the button "close and refresh" It closes but doesn`t refresh. Also 1 idea would be maybe to add the ability to put sub catagories, that would be awesome. Maybe watermarks on images to. Sorry to fire all this at you but that would be cool. :)

Unfortunately i am useless at creating a mod package for SMF (i have asked for assistence numerous times) so to add the link you will need to manually edit your SMF, I have included instructions on my forums but i still need to add instructions for SMF 1.1 RC2 (coming soon...)
I'm sorry to those of you who got errors, the invalid argument foreach() is the result of the notification setting, its default set to "email address" or something, the space creates an error. That is what i think it is....
I believe this time the errors a minour, and i am glad of that. However there are still some unexpected bugs which seem to appear just after installation, Biggy if you edited any code to get your gallery to run could you please tell me, so i can fix.
And anyone that is good at making packages for SMF (all versions) then please contact me through my forums, I really do need a guy to create a package for gallery menu button and maybe even to transform SMF to a package manager system (that would be just cool).
Thanks for all your replys, continued support is given through our forums http://tpvgames.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=26.0
This error was present the first time I went to the gallery after install. After I uploaded a pic it went away. I did not edit any code. I have not had a problem with it since install:
QuoteWarning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/******/public_html/smf/gallery/func.php on line 42
Here is my gallery:
I am having a problem with the pictures. Once they are uploaded and I try to view them, they are so big that when they open up in the java window you can't see the entire pic and then when you click the picture closes. Anyone else have this problem?
It is supposed to close when you click on it, but I do agree when they open in the new window they are pretty big.
I thin kthe error is due to his choice in image softeware...it uses GD rather than imagemagick and many servers do not have GD that I have found.
I had it check for DG on my server and it said that I had it.. I will disable it and try again.
**EDIT** I turned it off and viewing the images was the same. could not view all of the image in the window.. Anyother ideas?
As far as GD is concerened I wish I could my server does not have GD...the gallery I used to have used imagemagick and it had a feature to autoresize images for optimal viewing...I think the issue with this gallery is that when you click on the thumbnail it opens the image at whatever size it was originally...
So the only fix I can think of if GD functionality doen't do it is to manually resize the images for better viewing.
would there be an automatic way of doing that? can gallery do that? or how could I use imagemagick? I have up'ed 1 photo which is way to big for the screen and 1 of my users has up'ed one and it did the same thing.
I just finished looking at the admin page for my gallery...it is a function he neglected to build into the gallery...really it should be easy to resize the image using code just like it does for the thumbnails.....so honestly there should be a function to resize the viewing of the image too....
is there anything that I can do now to fix it?
go in and manually resize the existing images and limit the physical size of new images to less that one meg

You are wrong, GD is ONLY used for building the rating bar, the actual image viewer is JS. Images are shown at full size, but to be honest i didnt think of a situation where an image bigger than the resolution of the screen was uploaded, I will find some ways to fix this and offer (maybe) different options, ie resize or add scroll bars etc.

I find this post very saddening, i neglected to add functionality :o . I didnt neglect to do anything, I dont have imagemajic on my test servers so theres isnt much chance me knowing if any IM code i do will work, however now you have brought this idea to my attention I will look into image magic, install it in my server and learn how to use it. I will then (if worthy) add some functions...
However this gallery was not ever designed to do everything, and it might take some time before it becomes something that does alot. For now i really need SMF mod makers to help with the mod making of SMFG, I know theres alot of great mod makers out there so please come forward and help :p

I stand corrected...I did not really understand GD as the last Gallery I had was Coppermine and it used ImageMagick, so I Assumed GD was a similar program. I also apologize on the neglected comment as since I do a lot of image work (at home mostly) the size of the image is always a cosideration and as a lot of Digital cameras take pictures at over 2048 resolution I always think about that before I upload them anywhere. so I figured that everyone did and when I say that there was no way to resize the images within the gallery I thought it was overlooked.
nah it wasnt overlooked as such, we was already thinking of a way to use GD to create thumbnails for the gallery view instead of using HTML resizing (as this means the full image is loded).
But i didnt expect such a ploblem that arose, it was something we did infact overlook, the fact that in the preview view if the image is massive it loads right off the screen lol
So partly we did overlook.
Thanks, working on SMF 1.?? now :p
I have a couple questions please.
1. do you have a screenshot of the Admin section so i can see all the settings i may change as a Admin of my forum.
2. can each member on my forum have their own gallery section, what I'm attempting or need for my forum is that a member can upload a total of 24 pictures to his/her personal gallery and no more, if they want to add more pictures they need to delete some from their gallery.
i can indeed get some screenshots up (better still a dummy gallery that allows access to admin panel). But i must say right away that SMFG dont support individual gallery at this time, nor does it have the ability to restrict uploads.
However the good thing is that i can concider these ideas for SMFG 1.1.0 (coming soon :))
GOOD NEWS!!
SMFG 1.1 will be released tomorrow, it will supprot many new formats so it is not just an image gallery anymore, it can support a range of video formats including AVI, MPG, WMV. It will also support sound formats and SVG.
SVG is a vector graphics format, which could be very useful to some individuals.
The gallery will also support a personal gallery for each member and the ability to set how many files each user can upload to the gallery. this means it will do what the guy who posted above requested.
There is also an option to send a file to a friend via its large preview page, there are also some bug fixes with top 10 images and top 10 posters.
Sounds great, i'd need to give it a try. thanks
SMFG 1.1 has now been released :)
how do i add an image in my forums point them to the gallery?
as after install none shows up???
my gallery is located here
http://www.handgunplace.com/forums/gallery/
thans in advance
i tried to edit the theme with an image and link and it blew the theme apart lol so i took it out
wow your using a very complicated custom theme :p, your link tree is using images :/
i can show you how to add a new link there but you will have to sort of the grx for the menu. ill sort out the link if your interested...
If now we can add some sort of panel saying you have a gallery and to click here etc.
I'm not sure if I see corectly, but the gallery seems to be missing comments.
Comments are very important, because members always want to comment on photos.
They should be very much like posts: editable, removable, maybe even use smileys.
I'm not sure how easy it is to implement such a thing.
well not too difficult, the emoticons bit might present problems but overall not hard...
This is something were looking forward to work on soon :)
I get this: Hacking attempt...
after i continue after "It seems we have found SSI.php, so now we can continue."
//
its fixed but now another problem..
how do i add a link in the menu on 1.1 rc2?
http://tpvgames.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=174.new#new
1.1 RC2 instructions added :)
Hi,
nice gallery. But some things I miss and currently 1 thing is not nice.
I miss the option to disable guests or other user groups (showing the gallery) and give different rights to different user groups (how many pics can be uploaded etc., where can be uploaded [catergories]).
I don't like that the admin is also restricted by the upload limit. That shouldn't be.
And who's idea was that pink for admins? >:(
Edit:
I think I'll delete the gallery now, because it is too buggy. There are so many bugs in i.e. If you try to upload and you are not registered, then you can click inside the Javascript popup to register. But then all opens in that window.
is there any possibilty of getting the changfes implemented that Kettu stated?
Hi there
First of all, your SMF Gallery is really nice and I'm glad to see that someone finally made one!. I do have a few questions though...
(1) How exactly do you completely uninstall the SMF Gallery (in case I ever needed to)?.
(2) Once installed as directed, does your SMF Gallery modify any of the original SMF forum files and if so, which ones and how?.
(3) Is it safe to do a MYSQL database backup (via PHPMyAdmin) while having the SMF Gallery installed?. Any database problems there?.
Thanks again for your help and thanks for a really decent gallery MOD! :)
- Regards, SD
I'd love it if it would add a link to the menu bar. :)
what about - working together with the joomla_bridge_?
means running smf with joomla - is it still working then_? - and also the others (joomla and smf) are still working then_?
has anyone already tries _?
this is the wrong topic to be talking aobut such things, the whole point of SMFG is to create a system for SMF not convert another system into SMF.
if it is for smf_! - smf is running under different circumstances - so people should know - if it is useful for there cases or not, do you know a better place to ask this point_?
i might be wrong but... have you thought about looking at the joomla topic? just a hunch but it might be the RIGHT place to talk about the joomla + smf bridge.
yes you are wrong, fundamentally i am talking about your SMF Gallery 1.0, cant you understand, i know where to tolk about the bridge, but please - simply forget it .....,
Hi. Can I install to 1.1 RC3? How to set to all theme?
could someone point me in the right direction on how to change the background color :)
Hi:
I downloaded and installed SMF Gallery 1.0.2 without any problem.. but when first trying to Update settings in gallery/admin.php I get this error:
QuoteSQL Error (19): You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 's","SVG Graphics, awsome vectorised image's","Video content","Audio content","Fl' at line 1
So, the ' character is causing the problem; I deleted all the ' and updated with out problems.
Had the same problem with file extensions:
QuoteSQL Error (19): You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '.gif'' WHERE setting='limitedext'' at line 1
I changed '.gif' to .gif but when trying to upload a gif file I get in the upload window:
Error: Wrong file extension.
I even tried to use ".gif" .gif instead but no success.
I disabled the security restrictions for uploading files and the upload worked out :o
I use Mysql 5.0.x

I second this.
I've got Mambo 4.6.1 with SMF 1.1.1 and a bridge between them, all in Dutch. Now I installed SMF Gallery. I installed the package, no problems there, and I can edit the settings, upload photo's etc.
... but then its gone!
Can't see the gallery 'frontend', can't see it anymore 'backend' (I can only see it is an installed package) but for example, when I edit permissions, there is no mention of a gallery ...
Please help, because I would really like this to work (Mambo doesn't have a working gallery, or bridge to one)
I'm getting a "pkg is corrupted or incompatible" msg when downloading from Pkg Mgr.
SMFG was a nightmare for me, and their
support forum was without support. SMF,
you guys, please help this guy get the
darn thing working. Either that, or please
see that it's rated (hint).
"and their

we cannot support you if you dont post your php details... or have patience whilst we try and figure out the problems...
Wait, there's 2 different products named SMF Gallery? Ah this is going to get confusing.
