Title: Several restrictive bugs in SMF 1.1 RC2
Post by: Grudge on December 31, 2005, 01:47:29 PM
All,

It appears, as sometimes happens, a few bugs creeped into RC2 which we were unable to find during our internal testing. As these bugs adversely effects the functionality of the forum, I've regenerated the RC2 package to include the fix, as it's very early on in the release. However, for the few hundred people who have already downloaded RC2, you will need to either:

1) Redownload the package and upload the source files
OR
2) More simply, upload the attached files to your Sources directory.

These bugs, although not security related, causes an error when creating a new membergroup and editing server settings.

Apologies,

Simple Machines

FYI, the new files in \Sources are:

ManageMembergroups.php    12/31/2005  1:44PM
ManageServer.php          12/31/2005  1:57PM

If your file date is 12/31/2005  4:44AM, then you should download the new files.

Got them ta!  :D

And as a reminder, update all your PC copies as well at your boards and don't forget the original zip files either.

GC, Did you upload all the files? If you uploaded the new language files and NOT the new Subs.php this would explain it. Otherwise a link would be good.

At what time did you download the package?  Verify the time and check with the time in this post

Most likely you will have to do the mod_security changes again since the .htaccess file was overwriten.  Did you try though FTP or cPanel?

If the host is using suPHP, then yes, 755 will act the same way as 777.

Not sure if it's appropriate here but I found what I think is a issue in RC2.

When I upgraded I lost the Memberlist box on the Index page.
Turns out the code for it is missing in the default theme file 'BoardIndex.template.php'. I fixed it by stealing and modifying code from the same file in RC1, code was around line 300.

Details here.

The reason why the Memberlist box is not there is because there is a link to it on the main menU.

Thanks! Missed that when testing the new theme and in the Changelog file.

Is there a way to test themes by having a theme only available to groups, i.e. Admin or mods?
A way to test themes without members being affected?

Or best to setup a test site.

i was also having a problem where my membergroups i created couldn't post in certain forums.  actually most of them.

i uploaded the patches but the problem is still the same.  I am running on RC1.  Will that make a difference?
Title: Re: Several restrictive bugs in SMF 1.1 RC2

Might be the permission by board setting.  Make sure that those new membergroups have the proper permissions to post in those boards.  Just go into Admin -> Board Permissions to verify.

Don't think this is for RC1...maybe just for RC2 since that was mentioned  ;)

When I try to PM a member, it cannot find the member?

Any ideas on this one?
Title: Re: Several restrictive bugs in SMF 1.1 RC2

I would suggest you start a new topic in regards to this with your phpinfo.php, version of SMF and any other detail about the member you are sending the PM to (Capitals letters in the memebrs name, special characters, etc.)

aghhhh!
I am lost!

I have downloaded a rc2 version  few weeks ago ( march) I had many problems with the 1st  installation, especially with many mods, a couple of wich caused the board unacessible and I had to shut it sown and restart a new installation from scratch, now I am experiencing new issues with even more mods than before, luckely the board is still up.

Do I have to upgrade something I don't know?

Help please.

Another bug that I am finding extremely annoying is every now and then when I click on a link it asks me to download the index.php file. Is it maybe the software I am using to hist the site or where can I look to fix this problem ?

I don't think that is related to SMF.  It might be a host issue.  It happens here once in a while when apache crashes.

It happens with me every now and then and it is something I cannot replicate relyably. I am not using apache or IIS. I am using Sambar with PHP 4 not PHP 5. Could it be the Web Server I am using? I am running other PHP boards on it and the problem is only with the SMF board. The other borard is PHPBB and I have not had this problem with it.

Is it something that happens for a few minutes or it ask you to download and once you refresh is working fine?
Title: Re: Several restrictive bugs in SMF 1.1 RC2
Post by: ReiLiC on July 18, 2006, 06:54:40 AM
The action is preformed already. So if I submit the post it posts and then asks to download the index.php file, but I can make another post straight after that then it goes through without a hassel. I can do a number of posts then suddenly it will happen again without warning. It is a frustrating problem since there is no apparent reason why it would do that. I though it might be my browser so I switched to Mozilla but it still happens.

Try a fresh install of SMF to see if it's software related or server related.

Ok, here is the status now. I did a fresh install of SMF and installed the DilberMC Mod and Theme. I first stuck the download whe I set up the calendar and then every now and then when I post and reply it does it.

I asked some people to try and it faries between them. Some get it some don't. They are all usin IE 6. I have not tested with IE 7. Might it be the web server? I don't have any problems with my appications in PHP and MySQL, but I don't know if it might just do something a bit different than Apache or soemthing that triggers the download response.

Server stuff is not really my thing.  What you can do is start a new topic in the server configuration board.

Would that mean that if we noticed it happen with index.php we could tap in Settings.php instead and download db passwords etc for the forum??  Because if that is possible, its a pretty big security problem...

Yes.

However what can SMF / phpbb / IPB / vB do to stop it?

It is a server config issue if your host sets up php incorrectly

I don't think so because when you download the index.php file it's empty.
