Title: Packages say they install but no changes made

In my server I've been trying to install packages. They say they are installed, and I'm fairly certain that php code files are run. However, no changes are made to the files. Backup (.php~) files are made, but the new ones are exactly the same as they were before.
Everything is set to 777 and I should have full php and ftp access.

Okay, seems it was just suExec problems - files being owned by me and not apache. My friend who own's the host did some linux magic and it now works. :)
