Post by: ruzster on March 12, 2006, 05:50:51 PM
Link to Mod (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=283)

This is an update of the Visual Warning Mod, originally created by Grudge and updated by permutations, FOUND HERE. (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=218)

DESCRIPTION
===========
This mod lets you to give visual warnings to your users in four stages:
  1) First warning - instant message and a green warning mark next to user name.
  2) Post moderation - the user's posts must be approved before they are seen.
  3) Mute - instant message and the inability to post polls or messages.
  4) Ban - user is gone.

This package only supports SMF 1.1 RC2!

Changes in v1.3 - February 2006
- Package has been striped to *only* work with SMF 1.1 RC2.
- Warning text has been placed centered underneath the image inside posts.
- '# of messages needing moderation' text has been made into a link.
    - Section & Global Mods can moderate posts without accessing the rest of the Admin panel.
- This mod gets it's own tab under 'Features and Options'. It is no longer located inside 'Karma".
- 'Feature Settings' fixed to remove extra input boxes & add horizontal rules.
- Icons have been updated.

Would there be a way to make new members be on premod by default? By that I mean all new member messages to be moderated until they show they are genuine, and not trolling or worse?

It return me:

Anyone to confirm this?

I'm waiting for this mod from relise of 1.1. rc2...

Have you manually applied the neccessary edits to the theme files post.template.php, profile.template.php, index.template.php and Display.template.php?  The package manager install only edits these in the default (core) theme.  You have to do it manually for other themes.

I tried the info their but no luck. Think you can help me with that picture I attached up there?

The mod is working great for me, only 1 thing is not working:
the X messages require moderation gives a blanc screen.
Do you have a clue???
Tried it on several type of browsers.

Go through the manual install that you did, and do it again. But this time use fresh files from the SMF zip file (when they fail on install, some are part modified). BUT, this may effect other Mods you have installed.

Go into the admin panel under "Warning Management"

Looks great and love it!  I noticed however that after I removed a test warning that it remove it from the log and everything goes back to normal except the little symbol and the reason stay in the posts of that user.   Anyway we can get rid of that after the warning has been lifted? or does that say with only the "Warned" post?  Thanks

I`m not to sure. I would guess the warning would stay but I would think only admins can see it but this is just a guess I could be wrong.

Had a few things show up in my error logs and was wondering if anyone had a fix for them.  Some of them seem to be the same problem....just different lines.

I guess I should have tested this first but when I go to apply a warning it gives this:

QuoteYou have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ')
ORDER BY mem.lngfile
LIMIT 0' at line 8
File: /home/*****/public_html/smf/Sources/Subs-Post.php
Line: 733

EDIT: I think I found out why this happened. i tried to warn a member that had left my forum awhile back and thats why I would think I got the error. I just tried it on a member that is active and it works. Please disregard this post.

The reason I recieved that message was because I tried to warn someone that was already banned on my forum. After I tried to ban or warn a member it worked fine.

You'll need to maunually modify the failed file. Instructions are in the zip file. Its fairly easy to do. Download a copy of the file to your PC, do the modification as per the instructions in the zip file, upload and over write the one there. It should then work OK.

When you set someone as "Moderator" They are only Moderator of the forum you have made them a moderator of NOT the whole site. Global Moderators on the other hand Moderate the whole site so they have permission to warn members.

Is there a way to fix the coding so it doesn't show the whole world that that user was warned and why?

I don't want everyone, including guests, to know that a user was warned by a mod.

I would prefer something that only the Mods/Admins/Author can view and preferably put in the display.template.php instead so it's where the Av and what not are. I would also like more levels to chose  from, maybe mod it to chose the amount of levels you can have before ban?

I'm looking for something more like the IPB Warn mod.

Let's just assume that this string from readme is my case: "If you are unsure select "new SMF installation" and ignore any errors thrown up". And ignore it. Bingo! After 10 minutes copypasting from mod-file I've got fully working mod.

Another has just appeared: I can't save setings, made on "warnings tab". Neither time duration, nor colors/images. When I click "Save settings" it doesn't save anything.
Where can I edit those parameters manually?

The other question is how to change the font size, which is used near warn-images (Mute/Moderated/Banned/Warned). I'd like to have it not so huge.

Hi there! Here's hoping that I won't make a total n00b out of myself.  :-[

I installed the mod (lovely!) and it seemed to work fine until I clicked on:

Post Moderation Manager and Warning Management.

All I get is a screen informing me that An Error Has Occurred! (with no details on the error)

Error logs show:

8: Undefined index: cannot_visual_warn_any
File: /home/haydench/public_html/Sources/Errors.php
Line: 336

If anyone here has an idea of what got bungled on the way, I would really appreciate your input.

Thanks in advance!

I noticed you can set custom groups to warn and approve posts, however, I'd like moderators to be able to warn too (only in their own sections), but under the permissions section, moderators don't have the options.  Is there a way to add them?

if a moderar bans someone is it possible to make an option that he can only ban users from that board and not from the whole forum?

This feature would really come in handy!

I am using helios like you too. Did everything like what the guide said and i dont think there is any error except i cant get the warning graphic icon & there is no "Post.template" file in Helios Theme. Whats the solution ?

I hope SMF Developer will had a build in warning meter in the next SMF upgrade or someone that could come out with a meter bar mod like IPB.

Something like the pic below.

And someone please help me about my question above. The warning button is still not working :(

can you post the code from

It's not supposed to do that.  It works just fine on mine

               // What about splitting it off the rest of the topic?
Title: Re: Visual Warning Mod
Post by: onijin on May 12, 2006, 07:24:17 AM
I think this part is causing the issue:

$warn_button = create_button('im_visualw.gif', 'visual_warn', 'visual_warn', 'align="middle"');

that code looks like it's designed for the default theme (im_visualw.gif).  When I was trying to get it working, the button that came with it wasn't meshing with helios.

try removing that.

From the looks of it, helios is trying to create 2 buttons.  Since it can't find the first one, it's not showing, but it's offsetting the second. If you compare the code between the warn and delete, delete doesn't have anything similar to that code.

this is what my code looks like

                // How about... even... remove it entirely?!

                if ($message['can_remove'])

                        echo '

                                                                        <a href="', $scripturl, '?action=deletemsg;topic=', $context['current_topic'], '.', $context['start'], ';msg=', $message['id'], ';sesc=', $context['session_id'], '" onclick="return confirm(\'', $txt[154], '?\');">', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/delete.gif" alt="' . $txt[121] . '" border="0" />' : $txt[31]), '</a>';

if ($context['can_warn'])

echo '

<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=warnadd;topic=', $context['current_topic'], ';start=', $context['start'], ';user=', $message['member']['id'], ';msg=', $message['id'], '">', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/warn.gif" alt="' . Warn . '" border="0" />' : Warn), '</a>';

Meaning they can see the warning buttons, or they can see that a member has been warned?  Because if it's the latter, it's supposed to be like that.  Sort of a public humiliation thing...  ^_^

The later, which I dont think any other than the warned member himself should see. I mean it's good enough for the member knows that he has been warned, that's all, why let others see it too. It may kinda discourage the members from posting a lot, and some other members can mock them too.

Currently only administrators are able to use the Warn feature on a post.

Goto permissions===>Settings===>and put a check mark next to all 3 of the options then go to "Permissions by Membergroup" and modify a group all permissions should now be visible. This is for smf 1.1rc2

I need the ability to moderate ONE user's posts before they show up, and it looks like this would do it.

Let's just assume that this string from readme is my case: "If you are unsure select "new SMF installation" and ignore any errors thrown up". And ignore it. Bingo! After 10 minutes copypasting from mod-file I've got fully working mod.
I'll try to see if it works.
Thanks

I tried to copy/paste from the mod-file and I get a strange thing: the board is visible and it works if I login as a normal user, but becomes blank if I login as admin (I have two admin accounts, same with both)
???

Is it possible to have this mod do a couple of things differently?

1) Dont show the warning message to the entire forum, instead 2) have it included in the PM they received.

This solves a couple of problems.  It keeps everyone from being nosy, and the warned person also recieves the reason why in the PM.  In 95% of the cases, I or the staff will delete the post in question, so the warned person doesnt know what was wrong.  Thanks ;)

I second this case. If it is possible make a setting for it on wether to publish it to the public or not. :)
