I'm currently using SMF 1.1rc2 and joomla 1.08
I installed a fresh copy of joomla and configured my menu items/components. After installing the SMF bridge everything that isnt set to "public" dissapears. i.e. all menus and menu items that are defined as registered and user doesnt appear. I tested my theory out on this by randomly making a menu item "public" and the user menu (which has been set to registered) appeared with that item only. I also tested this against joomla's core login mod and was able to see the menus when using that login module.
Are there any know conflicts between the bridge and joomla 1.08?

I've found exactly the same thing. Which is why this Post was so easy to find :)
All items marked Registered have gone. Marking them Public makes them visible.
Ideas anyone?
logins in joomla 1.0.8 are apparently case sensitive...
I acually was abel to get my issue resolved by following the directions in this thread

Hi i have exact the same problem
When new users do register, they are loged in joomla and can see all the (registered set) menus, but whe a older user (before new bridge 1.1.3) try to login then he is in smf logged but not in joomla.
I searched the forum but i can't find any solution :(
SMF = 1.1 RC2 (patched)
Joomla = 1.08
Bridge = 1.1.3
Site = http://www.oixalia.gr
Test accounts:
Older user: username = leo pass = 131271 (not logged in joomla, only smf)
New user: username = kuman81 pass = 123456 (logged in joomla and smf)
Please help me
Joomla 1.0.8 is case sensitive. That username is Leo, not leo.
