I've been using my forum wrapped for a while, while pondering whether or not to use the bridge. Basically, I have no need for any "user integration", i.e. I don't need any users to be able to log in to Joomla, just in to SMF. Is there a bridge that will work right like that? Thanks.
The entire purpose of the bridge is to link the login and userlists between smf and joomla.
Are you intending to keep your forum wrapped?
Yes, I want the forum wrapped. Right now, everything is so hacked to make it look right. The major annoyance right now, is that using the wrapper function in Joomla won't allow the page to return to the top when making a reply, quote, etc. The user has to scroll back up. Along with other things.
Let's say I do want to add the bridge. I have edited so many files I would more than likely start over with a fresh SMF install. Would I be able to keep all my users, posts, boards, PM's, etc. just by copying over the neccesary tables from the DB? Is there a primer for this anywhere? Thanks.
??? Why would you need to start with a fresh SMF install? The bridge does not modify any SMF Source files at all.
and why would you need to do anything with the db tables?
I took this project over. The last admin HEAVILY modified SMF to work with Joomla. Hacked SSI to death, modified source/template files to get the look he wanted, etc. I basically want to add the bridge to simplify things (wrapped pages not jumping back to top, etc.) That's why I wanted to know how difficult it would be to start with a fresh install, drop the tables, then import what I have now. Seems easy enough???
Ok, so I understand why you would want to over-write the files..
but again... why would you need to change the tables?
just overwrite the files with a fresh (full) install of SMF (except for Setup.php)
run upgrade.php (if this is an upgrade from a different version)
install the bridge in joomla
configure the bridge in joomla.
done.
Gotcha, that makes more sense....thanks
