ive been running a forum on http://UtilityOffRoad.com for 3 years or so, using snitz software on an access database. this setup served me very well for awhile, but with an average of 15,000 (total site) daily visitors, we've outgrown access (the forum cannot serve pages during active searches).
while researching faster database options, ive decided to switch software platforms also, going the .php route instead of .asp, and the SMF forum looks to be exactly what im looking for. although i have windows networking experience and training, i am a complete newbie to mysql and php, knowing little to nothing about either.
i installed mysql "essentials" 5.0.22 on my windows 2003 server/iis 6.0, as well as php 5.1.4 "installer", and gave iusr_localhost read access to php.ini and execute access to php-cgi.exe and php5ts.dll.
when i attempt to run the install.php page i get the following error:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg159.imageshack.us%2Fimg159%2F2923%2Fasdfhh6.jpg&hash=40c465106e6091f5d6d1d0c76ff30227da807f72)
and have no idea where to go from here. thanks for any help.
my first guess is that you probably dont have the mysql server running on your comp. you should read the readme.txt that comes with mysql to know how to get it up and running.
there is no readme.txt included in the mysql essentials download (not that ive found, anyway). its a simple installer, and none of the directories it creates offers any support.
thanks,
Try having a really thorough look through their documentation/manuals.

Due to certain license changes on part of MySQL AB, PHP 5 does not ship with MySQL support built-in. The newer mysqli extension is enabled (I believe), but you need to check out the MySQL section (http://us2.php.net/mysql) of the PHP docs for instructions to enable the older mysql extension.
