Hey folks,
I have been running a smf for quite some time now and I am quite happy with it and now I would like to start personalizing it.
What I wanted to do first was changing the header of the forum, because there is some obsolete information, since I decided to use a Portal (TinyPortal), which already provides the information given in the header. I also want to embed a logo that goes with the forum.
Of course I tried to do that myself, but I ran into several problems, which led me to consult you.
I added an illustration so you can see what I was thinking of...

If you are using default theme, there is already an option to turn off the obsolete information inside TinyPortal itself. Just go to admin/ TPadmin/general settings and set "show top" to off. Then only the header will show and not the user-information panels. This was done to that exact need: hiding the top since its info is repeated in the sidepanels.

Great option, but this way we don't have a banner in the header.
Anyway, our current solution looks like this:
