SMF Version: SMF 1.0.5
When I try to upgrade my SMF from 1.0.5 to 1.0.7 I get the following error no matter what I click on in my admin area:
LainaaAn Error Has Occurred!
The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF.
How do I upgrade ??
Thanks, RAT
CHMOD your Packages directory to 777

Did that, still get the same error,,,
Thats been known to fail sometimes. Happened with me once. I then CHMODed everything that relates to SMF. I find it easier that way for some reason. ;)

So I should change everything smf to 777 and it will then upgrade or do I have to download the latest version and upgrade that way (not sure I know how to do that),, ???
Thanks, RAT
You can CHMOD everything if you want and then try the package manager. But if that dont work, you can still try the package on the download page. Its entirely up to you.

Whats the process of doing it manually from the pkg download page ??
download 1.0.7, unzip, upload those files except settings.php?? and then how do I run upgrade.php ??
(755 wont work on my server, has to be 777)
Also when I try to click on "back-up" in my admin area it just closes out the whole thing, ?? odd. Anyhow, I did a recent backup of everything in my cpanel the other day, that is best way anyway.
Thanks so much for your help,,

Start by making sure you have a good backup of your current forum before upgrading and put your site into maintenance mode. Ideally you should uninstall any mods you currently have too but I have always been lucky in the past and never had an issue even though I never removed my mods!
If you wish to manually upgrade just download the "upgrade" package here:
http://www.simplemachines.org/download/index.php?thanks;filename=smf_1-0-7_upgrade.zip
Extract the files locally and then upload them to your site. Chmod the required folders and follow the instructions and when you chmod you are generally setting these to 777 or 755 depending on what your host allows.
After that run upgrade.php and if any settings need to be changed prior to upgrade you will be prompted to fix them before the upgrade proceeds.
