Title: Lost "preview" & quick reply
Post by: DDT on July 29, 2006, 08:00:53 AM
SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC2
Running 1.1 RC2  and all was well. Integrated with Coppermine and all went well.
BUT now there is no "preview" function anymore. The board still works fine, I can't find anything obvious. But when you click preview where the preview should be it just says "fetching preview" and nothing ever happens. In IE there will be a brief "error on page" message that will flash at the bottom of the browser but it does this in Firefox and IE.
I integrated another SMF for a friend and this problem didn't happen but he isn't running RC2.
Any ideas would be appreciated  ???

OOPs, Just noticed, lost "quick reply" too ???

Pardon the ignorance but since I don't recall setting that anywhere, how would I know?
Headers & footers for Coppermine & SMF are not shared if that's what you mean.

Global Headers and Footers is a modification for SMF and is installed via the Package Manager.
so...is it installed on your forums.
i ask this cause that mod causes the problem your experiencing.

No, I don't have any packages or mods installed on this forum, just running the defaults.

No, no tilde's

PS: if you could also include the directories it would save me lots of time, I'm not a totaly "noob" but not really familiar with all this, as a host I have customers with phpBB, SMF, Fusion etc. questions and I try to help some as best I can, SMF seemed easiest so I used it on this board of mine but haven't dug into it deeply.

right now i'm at a loss to tell you what the problem is and its a little embarrassing.
this situation has occurred before and the problem was due to mods, but you have none.

Can you tell me which files are "triggered" by the preview function...I can try re-uploading them just in case it helps. I have no idea what controls the preview function.

Also I just tried switching to a couple of themes...this might help. I have a basice frontPage home page on this site. Somehow the background image from the CSS for FrontPage is getting in the forums, It's not so noticable in the default but I made a change and the forum was unreadable...funny though, only in the home page, as soon as I cliked a forum it appeared notmal although a few box outlines & such were the wong color. Is there a "safe" set of files to re-upload to be sure all I have is SMF CSS settings, there is no unknown (non SMF) theme in the themes section so it has to be a CSS somewhere.

As an addition (this may have something to do with it) I have been going through the files trying to get rid of the FP "background" and have got it out of the home page but when you enter a post field it's still there. Not in the home view, not in the forum view, but when you go to "post" anything it shows back up...any ideas where that file might be?

Or any ideas what all I could safely re upload without losing all my work creating forums, user permissions, etc.?
I could easily overwrite anything, just would hate to lose my Coppermine integration and all the "set-up work. :-[

Permissions and settings and boards and the like (except the basic ones, such as maintenance mode) are Database driven.  So as long as you use the same SMF database (without overwriting it) You should be set.

if you completely reinstall, though, make sure the new install goes under a different prefix (ie.  smf_2)

Then just go into Settings.php and change the prefix from smf_2 to whatever prefix has the database info you wish to keep.

Screwed up following your instructions but since it's new did a backup-restore and it was back like it was. Did a replace of everything but the settings.php this time  :-[
It was in the SSI group of files. Somehow FP had got in there & messed things up. As soon as I over wrote those (I was checking along the way) the forums all went back to normal and functions for preview returned. Who knows what but there must have been something in there...
I also (in case anybody else uses SMF with FrontPage) manually deleted all the FP files that were never needed in the SMF directory (but somehow FP had put them there).
I'll be more careful in the future, thanks to all for your help... ;D
