I would like to set up SMF to work in mulitple languages, specifically english and russian. I want to put a small link on the top of the page to change between languages, but I want the posts to show in their original languages. I downloaded the russian theme, but I don't want the board just in russian. Is there a way I can do this? Or do I have to set up the board twice, each accessing the same database?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Frank
1.1 rc2 has an option located at
Admin>Features and Options>Basic Features>Enable user-selectable language support
Turning this option on will allow users to select which language file they use. It will not affect the default selection.
But how do I install the Russian language pack without overwriting the english?
Language files are named in such a way that one language won't overwrite another language.
For example:
Admin.english.php
Admin.russian.php
I did, no instructions included :(

i deleted my post but Thantos is correct.
I'm uploading it now. I'll let you know how it works out :)
I uploaded it and installed the theme, but I don't have a clue if it's working. I don't have the language option appearing on the top of the page, and I did turn on the option in the admin settings :(
are the language packs installed in the theme your using?
They should be. The language packs are for Babylon, classic and default, and I'm using default
LainaaI don't have the language option appearing on the top of the page,
Thats a custom option which is only available on this site.
To change a language go to your profile > Account Settings > Preferred Language
Well, that doesn't do me any good. I want multiple language. Can I have the mod you used on this site?
Phaser - you could add something like this to index.template.php:
', ($context['user']['language'] == 'english' ? '<a href="' . $scripturl . '?language=russian">Switch to Russian</a>' : '<a href="' . $scripturl . '?language=english'>Switch to English</a>'), '
Somewhere within the existing HTML.
I suppose I could.
Where would I add it?

Is this going to be available to the rest of us at any point. Maybe the next version release??? :)
