SMF Version: SMF 1.0.7
Are the messages stored in system files on the WebServer, or in the MySQL DB?

(Sorry if this is not the right location for this question...I did try to find the answer in the site.)

Is there a general reference site for questions like this?

Yep all messages and user data is stored in the database
