Alienation is a dark theme with some heavyily inspired industrial elements. Complete with custom icons and html fields to insert your own html code. It has a sidepanel with user-details,search and stats + possible to hide away on a per-user-basis.

Do you have a link by any chance? A screenshot doesn't help much, since it seems ok on my local test-site.

I also had a small gap in the center after the logo... but i think it has got something to do with screen resolution... i dont get it in my low res home pc ...

I need some help or the direction to where i can find a solution... for using google ad mod with alienation....  i am no good in php or modyfying templates... just learnt some basics here... please help.... this theme is awesome... neither u get the techi feel nor you get the space feel totally... its a fusion between art and tech... though i am new at smf, i have seen enough themes and i am good with psd/imageready... it appealing enough even to a girl like me as also my friends....

hats off to bloc ....  :)

Issue is moot now, as I have removed the middle and right logos and put a Google AdSense banner in its place.  Looks great!  :)

Anyone else having problems getting Grudge's shoutbox to work, with this brilliant theme?

I get the box to shout in and the box, where the word "Shout" should be.

Actually shouting doesn't work, though.

Any ideas, or do you need more information?
Title: Re: Alienation
Post by: kat on September 23, 2006, 12:08:51 PM
In case anyone else wonders, we got the shoutbox working by opening modifications.english.php in the alienation/langagues theme and copy the couple of txt lines, there are four that tend to look like this:

$txt['alien_pm']='* PM:';
$txt['alien_unread']='* Show unread posts';
$txt['alien_replies']='* Show replies';
$txt['alien_own']='* Show your posts';

Go to the default theme, and find modifications.english.php and add those four lines to the bottom, just before the "?>".

Then delete that file from the theme.

That'll fix it!

With thanks to Lisa at http://www.totaltwaddle.co.uk/board/index.php for sorting it, for me!

Nice theme, but I've got this error (as I saw in error log) when a user clicks on 'balloons' to see new posts:

8: Undefined index: alien_own
Archivo: .../public_html/Themes/alienation11final/Display.template.php (eval?)
Línea: 247

8: Undefined index: alien_replies
Archivo: .../public_html/Themes/alienation11final/Display.template.php (eval?)
Línea: 246

8: Undefined index: alien_unread
Archivo: .../public_html/Themes/alienation11final/Display.template.php (eval?)
Línea: 245

8: Undefined index: alien_pm
Archivo: .../public_html/Themes/alienation11final/Display.template.php (eval?)
Línea: 213

Also, got this one when clicked same baloon as admin:
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'AND IFNULL(lt.ID_MSG, IFNULL(lmr.ID_MSG, 0)) < t.ID_LAST_MSG' at line 7
Archivo: .../public_html/Sources/Recent.php
Línea: 755

I think both are related... If they don't, tell me.

There are some language strings that Alienation theme uses for itself. Look in the Languages folder inside Alienation theme and copy any xxx.english.php to xxx.yourlanguage.php + translate of course.

The last error is not related. I am not sure what that can be.
Title: Re: Alienation
Post by: 3nd3r on January 04, 2007, 01:33:24 PM
Only two files in .../public_html/Themes/alienation11final/languages :

Modifications.english.php
Settings.english.php

So, I've copied this two, rename and translate them, then this folder shows this four files:

Modifications.english.php
Modifications.spanish.php
Settings.english.php
Settings.spanish.php

And both problems are solved!  :D :D ;D
Thank you!

I'm wondering... I've seeing your TP and looks very 'tasteful'  :D

What if I install this (yours) Mod+Theme (TP+alienation) on my forum? Do you think the problem will be solved?
Title: Re: Alienation
Post by: bloc on January 06, 2007, 02:10:22 PM
Maybe..but I doubt it. TP only expand SMF, but it doesn't change so many things in it to actually fix things lol. :)

It might be a problem with SMF version of Alienation. However..that works fine on my demo site for SMF themes only: http://www.tinyportal.net/demo/index.php?demo=alienation
Title: Re: Alienation
Post by: 3nd3r on January 06, 2007, 02:39:07 PM
I see. Thanks for answer.
I'm wondering if it could be a question about language pack... Anything about missing '.gif' s...
I'm going to see... If I copy from one place to another...  :-\

If not solved, I will do a complete backup of entire site + SQL db, and try to install TP...
Any advice about this? Have I got to do anything more special before installing TP?
Title: Re: Alienation
Post by: bloc on January 06, 2007, 02:56:36 PM
No, if you can install mods through package manager, its a simple as install it through there and then install Alienation TP theme (just as other normal SMF themes) - if you want to use that theme.

One thing though..try to install TP as the first mod..it tends to compete with other mods on certain changes, and it seems it works best by installing that first.

At last my main problem is solved!:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=129739.msg906205#msg906205

So, I'm going to try TP...
Well, just for resume: I've got a SMF 1.1.1 forum, spanish language pack and Alienation Theme. When I'll go to install TP, the work to do is:
- Install TP Mod
- Install Alienation TP Theme
- Install spanish language pack

My question is if I would pass through any of this steps... ¿Will I need to install Alienation Theme or spanish pack again, just after installing TP Mod, or I won't?
Title: Re: Alienation
Post by: bloc on January 13, 2007, 07:26:33 PM
No, you don't need to. Alienation TP is exactly like normal Alienation, just with a few more images and extra php calls to display the panels. Otherwise its a regular SMF theme.

Got an issue that was posted on before but I didn't see a solution. I've got the same issue with a hole in the top banner and the right logo misplaced at the top (Link here: http://freelancersallianceonlinegaming.com/forums/index.php?board=84.0) we would like to use this theme for our Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3 game) section in our forums but I would like to get this bug resolved, any help would be greatly appreciated

I also have the dreaded "hole in the banner".

http://www.spydernation.com/backup/

It doesn't hurt anything (I've been running Alienation as the default theme since forever) but it is darned annoying to look at.

I also saw the symptom on one of bloc's forum pages...let me see if I can find it...brb.

And I'm not surprised. That's what makes this such a fun issue. Some see it, some do not. Some browsers see it, some do not. One admin is running IE 7, (version 7.0.5700.6) he can't see the hole, another one is running IE 7 (version 7.0.5730.11) and he does see it. So far, everyone running Firefox 2.0.0.3 seems to be "hole-free", but it wouldn't stun me if the next person to comment could see the hole with FF.

Here is a screen shot of the TinyPortal link I included above, the browser is IE 7.0.5730.11, said screen shot taken at 08:37 Eastern time.

I don't know if this'll help you, with this. But, it worked, for me. Even with Alienation.

We have clickable links, in our banner. Each time they wanted to change the links, it meant changing the banner code on each and every theme.

To get around this, I created "banner.php" with just the code for the banner. It looks like this (With the forum url changed and all the links removed. Obviously, you'd need to change "http://mysite.co.uk/Banner.png" to whatever you need.):

REMEMBER TO KEEP A BACKUP COPY OF EACH FILE THAT YOU ALTER, JUST IN CASE!

<center><img src="http://mysite.co.uk/Banner.png" usemap="#Banner" alt="" style="border-style:none" /></center>
<map id="Banner" name="Banner">
</map>

That code I called "Banner.php" and it's stored in public_html.

Then, at the top of every index.template, I added the following, right after "<?php" and before "// Version: 1.1.2; index"

require 'banner.php';

So the top looks like this:

<?php

require 'banner.php';

// Version: 1.1.2; index

I wonder if this would help, in your situation.

Maybe the size of the banner is crucial, I don't know. For reference, mine's 800x170 pixels in size.

You might need to go to the settings for each theme and remove any code, there, which might mean that you'll have two banners, or something.
Title: Re: Alienation
Post by: oaqm on April 27, 2007, 11:15:54 AM
I will give that a shot. Basically, it appears that you are using the banner.php as a "band-aid" to cover a hole that may or may not be there?

Thanks for your suggestion!
Title: Re: Alienation
Post by: kat on April 27, 2007, 11:26:52 AM
Pleasure, mate!

I know precious little about php, to be honest. I just found some code that worked and butchered it, to suit.

So much better than changing the index.template in all themes, though. I have quite a few on my forum...

I have the same problem, I truely believe it is in the length or size of the logo you add. When I tried to add a whole line  of logo,
ex: "Disciples of Apacolypse" I got the hole.  When I just use a small png logo it has no hole.  I must have to do with the paramaters in the header.  Unfortunatly I can't code php, so I Don't know how to fix.  But I have played with various lengths and the longer the script the bigger the hole. Go figure.
Just my 2 cents worth.

The alienation is one from my favourites :D :D
But could someone gives me a hint how I can remove the left panel ???
It is the index.template.php.
Should look like the default theme.

Hello :)

I really like this theme a lot! I am using SMF 1.1.3, and MKPortal 1.1.1. Everything looks great, and seems to be functioning perfectly, but I have a small request, if I may :)

With MKPortal wrapping the forum, it looks odd having the header and search functions droppping down vertically. Would it be possible to change the code a bit so that it drops down horizontally?

Here is a link to the forum I'm working on:

http://idf.raivensnest.net/forum/index.php (http://idf.raivensnest.net/forum/index.php)

As you can see, with it vertical it doesn't really suit how MKPortal wraps the forum. If you could help by letting me know what code to edit, I'd really appreciate that :)

Anybody else having trouble with the "Edit Smileys" tab?

Even on a fresh install of the skin I have never had this option available. The other tabs in this section work, it's just this one.

Every time I need to edit the smileys I need to switch to the default skin.

Thx's Broc

First let me start like this.. THIS THEME KICKS ASS.. way to go man :)

but one error so far since i installed. I notice the same issue with the top image missing in the middle like a couple people posted one page back. It only is missing or has a table screwed up in IE. I use FF and it seems to be fine. Theres a big black spot though on IE7 & IE6 when you enter any of the topics but it is fine on the main page. I left your copyright / made by: text at the bottom but i removed the logoright.jpg image and it makes the gap even bigger than with the image in there of course but. Is there a fix for this issue yet.??

I even tried to add table there and also run the middle image all the way over to the right and no luck.

Can you please help with this so that it looks complete on IE and FF. ??

Thanks

I am getting these:

File: /public_html/tutorials/Themes/default/Admin.template.php (main_above sub template - eval?)
Line: 248

and also a bunch of these:

Unable to load the 'ThemeStrings.english-utf8' language file.

i noticed this checking on a couple guest IP's and when i did a check it shows below there errors they and and thats what made me look at my log

what should i do about all these errors ??

thats only 2 pages worth and all the same thing but flipping around from one to the other error..

i have about 150 pages of errors already since this install.. happens like every minute or like i said every time i move around site it seems.. I do not visually see the errors except sometimes certain images not loading but or they take a reload for them to show but other than that i do not see these errors with my eyes but only in the logs that i have noticed so far. I dont know..

What can i do to fix this ???

PS~
i did not even look through all the error's but..

looks like i might already have to take this theme off, I dont want to, i really like this theme  but, kind of is looking that way unless there is some help out there for this.

This is language errors..and it explains why you don't have "show replies.." links..because i made them shorter in this theme and put the short versions in language strings. Are you using english utf8 btw?
Title: Re: Alienation
Post by: Antechinus on December 29, 2007, 05:17:39 AM
I'm getting a stack of the same errors but on a different theme. Presumably the cause is the same so it's not exactly off topic. We're running English because I was told to. I don't know the difference between that and English UTF-8.
Title: Re: Alienation

You are indeed in need of a utf-8 file..please try to rename the "Themestrings.english.php" file inside "Themes/Alienation/languages" to "ThemeStrings.english-utf8.php".

IE6 or 7?

Both,

and i take that back when i said it was only once inside a topic that it was missing, it is also missing and changes that image gap when you add your own site name image logo instead of text site name (even though its the same size as set text for that area )

need or want a screen shot ??
or do you know what i am talking about already (since it has already been posted here from others also ) ??

Title: Re: Alienation
Post by: B.SkiLLs on January 02, 2008, 12:24:31 PM
so to clear that up above:

It shows a empty black gap at the top section with no images on IE 6 and 7 once your inside a topic or category

and / or

it also does it but changes the gap size when you add a name logo, instead of text and then it even shows the black empty gap on the index page at top also like it does when your inside a topic or category.

nice theme. is there a way to  remove the sidebar completely? and not by having the user "clicke the hide arrow". is there a way to 100% remove this bar from the theme?

Love the theme, can the header be enlarged and can a different picture be used?

Not without removing a lot of code I am afraid. The user/stats parts are all added in permanently.

You should be able to exchange the logo a least, with a link to a image. Check out "current theme settings".
