Okay, here is the new updated version for Beta 5. Not much else has changed. I did add code in the mod file in the instructions to add the number of people and who they are in chat to your News box. Quite a few people mentioned they liked it at the top like it was in YaBBSE.
Added the chat button which I had forgotted to add the code for before. Cleaned up the code a bit.
If you are just upgrading you do not need to run the dbmod file.
This is an integration to use an IRC room hosting by Brodle at everywherechat for FREE
You can see an example at http://www.goosemoose.com/rfc I have also added a section in the bottom of the main page that lists the users logged into chat.
Let me know if this works okay for you guys!!
You can download the file at:
Download here (http://www.goosemoose.com/integatedchat_2.0_SMFB5.zip)
2.0 for SMG Beta 5 :P?
Here, I've attached an untested package that should work if uploaded the the Packages directory - assuming the proper files are 777.
-[Unknown]
If anybody gets a chance, download the version that Unknown posted and save it to your packages directory and then run it from the packages center of your admin panel. Then let us know if it works ;) I can't test it right now because my server is missing the zlib library. Most peoples should have it already installed.
Here's a new version that actually works, I got a chance to test it ;).

The package manager does not currently work on servers using safe mode, and it may not ever. (but I'm working on it.)

You will need to have the following 777:
/Packages/installed.list
/Themes/default/images/english
Among others.

As I said, I'm working on it... but really, if your host is using safe mode they should also use php suexec, which the package manager works under. (like Lycos, yes it even works there!)
-[Unknown]
Thanks Unknown, that got the package to load, but I have one last error:
QuoteError updating the DB. SQL Error: Duplicate entry 'chatLanguage' for key 1
I would not know what to do here either!?
Ignore it, it would be using an "upgrade" script but the old version wasn't done with the package manager.
-[Unknown]
Ok, thanks again, now I just gotta figure out where it is. I found the confog stuff in admin, but I can't find the chat program itself! :-X
Zeke,
You might be able to get around the safe mode errors you have by creating a folder called temp with permissions 777 inside of the packages folder. It worked for me ;)
No, that dosn't work either... you just run into more errors! I tryed already...
Ok, I give up...I installed the chat, but cannot find it. I see no links or references to it, except in the admin. Where could it have gone? I hate sneaky chat!
Ahh - this chat is a headache to install :-[
Anybody know how I can link to or better yet even find the chat that I have just installed?

Did you use the package or the zip file to do the install? If you used the zip file make sure you did all the steps in the mod. The mod file has the edit for the index.template.php which has the chat button in it.
Owdy did you get the package to work or did you use the zipped mod?
I used attached. Just upload it to your "Packages" dir and
chmod 777:
/Packages/installed.list
/Themes/default/images/english
Then just install it with package manager. That CHMOD thang is very important!
test it : http://www.halko.net/smf/index.php
user:test
pass:test
If you don't see any buttons anywhere, there's a high chance you didn't chmod things writable except the sources.

Yes CHMOD is very important on *nix system. Once you understand what files need what permission you should be able to install and type of script.

I have this error in my admin center now when I go into Edit Features and Options.
It IS chmod properly also!
Plus I guess from multiple attempts to install, I now have like 6 chat bars all with the same options in the Edit Features and Options.
I am a little confused?
There was an error in the mod (a missing slash before a single quote!) that was posted, but I corrected it and all was well.... try the most recent version I posted. (you will have to uninstall/upload clean files.)

WOW - It actually works :o ;D
(i think) i've managed to get the mod installed but i've done somefing that made two chat buttons come on the navigation bar and there are two settings for the chat in the "Edit Features and Options " part of the admin controle center. How do i remove the extra ones?
Try simply uninstalling it....

I still get the mysql error after running the install, and then I get this message when I ignore it and go to settings:

It should, you probably need to set it up in the Admin area, Edit Features and Options, near the bottom.
I've installed this mod manually, after getting frustrated with the Package errors. Though this version was not manual install friendly, I had to do some splicing of chatdb with the 1.1 chatdb to get that to work.
Thank you for your work on this, and updating it so quickly. :)

The chatdb in 2.0 is the exact same file as in 1.1, in fact you shouldn't have to run it again since the tables don't change at all from 1.1. What was the problem you were having?
The package I made up is for installation not upgrade..... it probably will throw errors if you use it to upgrade.

Took me 15 seconds to download and intialized the applet. Dont think you could get any faster then that. Also you could make the chat link load in a new browser by adding target="_blank" to the url tag.

That might have worked in the Package install, but not for a manual install, which I did in the end, ran out of patience with the Package. :-/ I don't mean to complain, just pointing it out. Maybe I downloaded the wrong file, could have been my fault. (That might not be the exact 1.1 file either, I pasted the 2.0 code into a file and have lost track of whether that's the absolute original.)

Yes, that is for the package... I redid it because it was first long, and second reconnecting to the database. (inefficient!)
It will need to connect to the database if not from the package manager.

There should be a chat button or link in the menu assuming the mod was installed properly..

Oer, you can successfully ignore those problems. An INSERT IGNORE should probably be used for those keys, by the way, Goosemoose.
But, it should work ever with those. Just edit the settings in Features Settings and Options under Chat.

But, it should work ever with those. Just edit the settings in Features Settings and Options under Chat.
Ah! I loaded the Chat Room on my test system and everything seemed to be working. Until I went to Features Settings and Options and got the following:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/sites/site8/web/yabbse/Themes/default/languages/Help.english.php on line 358
Just when it was all going so well.
Might look earlier in this topic, that's been covered ;).

Oer, you can successfully ignore those problems. An INSERT IGNORE should probably be used for those keys, by the way, Goosemoose.
But, it should work ever with those. Just edit the settings in Features Settings and Options under Chat.

Thanks [Unknown]. The problem was I had a two word name for my chatroom...Doh! :-[ Once I joined them with an underscore it worked perfectly. I had another prob with "chat.gif" image not coming up but dopey me forgot to add the chat code to the file index_template.php in my new theme directory instead of the default directory. Anyway works a treat now. Thanks goosemoose and [Unknown] for coming up with the mod :)
Cheers,
oer.
Some people have requested different color chat applets for this mod. In order to do this there are about 21 images that make up the skin of the applet. So this means you need to use adobe or some other image program to change the skin. If anyone would like to change the skin color the files are at http://www.everywherechat.com/skins.zip
You can email me the change files back in a zip to
[email protected] and I can work up the code to make it use them.
This is a great script/mod thank you for taking the time to put it together. I was wondering if I could get some adivise on how to fix a small problem. On the index page where it shows the "chat stats" it always says that "there are people talking in the chat room." even when know one is there. I am sure this is do to the problems I had during the install where I installed an uninstalled a couple of times. I have gone through the manual process and everything seems to be done correctly. So if someone could please help.
I changed the script on my end to display 0 if no one is in the room rather then being blank. The actual wording is in the php page.
Quote from: ms_ukyankee on May 13, 2004, 04:12:16 PM
I don't know if this will help, but here's the difference between your page source and mine, at least for the applet parameters.
yours:
<script language="JavaScript" src="http://irc.everywherechat.com:8000/Java/e.js?room=roomname&roomstab=false&width=600&height=400&nick=__mab&keypass=¶mfilename=English.prm"></script>
mine:
<script language="JavaScript" src="http://irc.everywherechat.com:8000/Java/e.js?room=roomname&roomstab=FALSE&width=500&height=350&nick=nickname_ext&keypass=¶mfilename=embedded.prm">
Could the english/embedded paramfilename language thingy cause it? it looks like the only difference.
it should be embedded.prm for english translation.
Thanks I just fixed it.

Worth noting that it's only blank when the chatroom is unregistered.
Yes good point.
The stats are pulled form an SQL database and only work if you register your room.
ok folks, forgive me but I've lost the plot! Can someone please give me a definiitive link to the definitive (English) version? ;D
Out of the box the chat defaults to english and you choose another language if you want.
This sucks. I must be the only not to have it working :(
Anything that I do doesn't seem to have any effect on my board whatsoever. The chatdb.php file seemed to work, but then that was it. Where exactly do I put each other the files in the package? And where do I link to then from the main site?
This has probably all been covered previously, but I must have missed it. Perhaps some final overall instructions are in order?
Make sure you read the step by step instructions in the .mod file in my first posts zip file. There are two ways to install this, the way in my post and the way in unknowns. Both work. Mine is manual and unknowns is automatic.
Does anyone know what change for this in BATA 6

Okay, when you switch to another language you need to edit your language file to have the same lines as I added to the english file. If you look at the .mod file you can see what changes I made and then add those to your language file.

I haven't installed beta 6 yet but I am going to try to get it done in the next few days. After that I can tell you what has changed. If anyone else has already made the changes let me know what they were.
I've got the mod working and my room is registered. I still get the "There are currently people talking in the chat room." message, but no number of people no matter what (even if there are people in the room).
I may have missed something in the above thread but what can I do to correct this?
Thanks.

I've had problems with the "user chatting" bit before with everywherechat... Isn't it a problem server side, rather than a problem with the code? Did they stop supporting it cos of additional bandwidth or something?
You need to make sure to register your chat room by double clicking on the room when you are in it. Then the names will appear.

I've just spent some time on this for Beta 6, and it appears to me that only change is the removal of the second step in the mod file, no longer needed in ModSettings.php. Everything else was as before. Again, I've done this manually, as I'm not yet familiar with the whole Package process. ;)

Can someone direct me to the appropriate upgrade file for the Integrated Chat mod for RC1. We had it on our YabbSE site and our members loved it. I have installed/converted the newly released RC1 version and it is working fine. Very impressive upgrade.
A short tutorial on just how to install the upgrade file that I will be directed to would be very helpful.
Thank you in advance of your assistance in this matter.
I don't know if this is the correct way to error trap a guest, but I've added:
global $user_info;
if ($user_info['is_guest'])
fatal_lang_error('138');
to the top of chat.php - someone (actually, one of my moderators - they love to find all the glitches) got in via the icon right at the bottom of the board index as a guest and I figured it would be better to trap it here.
Is there a better way to trap this?

No, that's a pretty good way (depending on where you're putting it...) I would change it like so, though:
global $user_info;
if ($user_info['is_guest'])
fatal_lang_error(138, false);
The only difference here is that it won't write the error message to the error log, which I at least would prefer - I only want things logged I should look at.

Hi goosemose, I looked at your chat. I am using a different chat but what I liked about yours so much is the way it "sits" inside the forum's template. I was wondering if you'd be so kind and post instructions as to where one should place the chate code to make it come up between the header of the forum tamplate and the footer/credits. Also how did you make it so that page is accessed when the URL is index.php?action=chat ?
Thanks
The package posted by my, long back, will not work for anything above Beta 5.
-[Unknown]
I wasn't talking about the chat itself, but just where to place the code to make it come up between the usual SMF header and footer...
I have edited index.php to add an action so that the url action=chat would work, but where do I do the include for the actual chat file so that I don't have to look at the chat in a new window that doesn't have the SMF template around it?
Nevermind Unkown, I have figured it out myself and in an attempt to give back something to this community who has always helped me in a great way when I was in trouble, I have taken the liberty to write a small tutorial. In case somebody is interested in a beautiful PHP/Flash chat that integrates with SMF beautifully (read: same user database, same page design/layout/theme), you can find my small tutorial to integrate FlashChat in SMF 1.0 as if it was PART of a page instead of a new page in a new window at: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=17856.0

To disable the ads along the bottom of the chat you can add ads=false to the applet code. We will add this to the next release of the mod as an admin panel config. OFC we would appreciate if you would leave the ads as it will help us manage our resources but its not required to run them.

Do you suppose there is ANY chance of integrating (or updating) phpOpenChat to work with the user tables in SMF?
It appears that phpOpenChat (http://phpopenchat.org/index.php)had been integrated into YABB at one time, so perhaps it would only need to be upgraded to work with SMF?
