I am planning to release more paid SMF templates for simple machine forum. I was wondering if it was ok to use the default theme that came up with the smf files and redistribute them as paid templates by changing the layout a bit and adding my own design to the theme but leaving all the copyright intact to smf.
OR
Do I have to start everything from scratch like the coding of the entire template all by ourself ? I need some feedbacks from some experienced users.
To Be Honest to be safe id say your own theme from scratch
As long as the copyright is intact and only pure template files( no sources files) are distributed, I seen no obstacles in offering themes for a fee. You are allowed to modify default theme for your own creations. Copying other themes is anther matter though - you need to talk with the creator then.
Bloc, I might be very interested to use some of the themes for a small fees, based on per download. I will send you a mail regarding this. :)
Only include the templates you actually need to modify.
What if I get the permission from a theme developer who develop the themes from one of the default themes from SMF. I have already asked his permission. Is it ok to redistribute the templates as paid templates as long as its just template files ?
As long as the original creator(who may or may not used default theme as starting point) agreed, it should be ok.
