Otsikko: converting
Kirjoitti: TarantinoArchives - elokuu 22, 2006, 03:00:51 AP
so just upgraded 2 forums successfully from rc2 to rc3. but the second one is really huge. so the converting to UTF-8 is really a pain in the neck, coz the converting process doesn't boast a nice progress bar thing so after a couple hundred seconds firefox just gives me a "download xyz.php" window.... that's really not that good. what can i do?
go to myphpadmin and convert from there?

How big is the forum?

I could be wrong but It sounds like your script is running out of memory? If you have the ability then try upping your php script memory allowance to 16mb.

my board is huge. the mysql file would be almost 200mb uncompressed.

how do i increase my php script memory? i think it's high though

Well, mines about 1.2gb so if your having problems with 200mb then I've got some fun comming to me :)

Are you on a shared hosting plan? or is this your own server?

it's my own server. if you tell me what to do i can change my settings.

but it would be cool to have this converting tool use a step-by-step approach rather than wasting lots of mysql memory ;-)

Find 'memory limit' in php.ini and set it to 15mb (dont go higher as it sets memory aside for each runnning php script) lots of php files running is lots of 15mb's

You might have to restart apache.

this converting business really sucks. either it times out, or it gives me errors or whatever....

ok i now did this:

ALTER TABLE tbl_name CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;

worked fine but now i still have the "convert..." link in my maintenance section... that's a problem...

It's actually not really a problem. Ignore it. If you do this type of thing manually, like we just did, it will not always go way. I still have my Upgrade to RC2-2 warning message in my admin center, I just look past it. ( I installed RC2-2 manually )

ok
now i still have to fix my template. the conversion process kinda got rid of the custom html stuff i had in the header...

oh no i get this error now:

Illegal mix of collations (latin1_swedish_ci,COERCIBLE) and (utf8_general_ci,IMPLICIT) for operation 'find_in_set'
File: /var/www/web2/html/forum/Sources/PersonalMessage.php
Line: 380

when i click on my messages

but i converted all tables to utf-8 (half of them through the converting tool, half of it through myphpadmin)...

what do i do now?
