Otsikko: Standard English Fallback for Modifications
Kirjoitti: Kettu - elokuu 28, 2006, 08:18:39 AP
Hi,
I am often thinking how bad it is if you've installed a new modification and you use a different language as the modification standard is, you can't see the buttons, links etc until you've installed the language pack.
At the new Shoutbox of mbirth v1.13 is an English fallback included. That means if you haven't installed a language pack for that mod and use i.e. German language although you see all links, comments etc in English. That's great. :D So you don't have to install a specific language pack if you don't want to or it isn't available for your language.

Why can't that be standard for all mods? It would be easier to use mods that are available in English, only.

Thanks,
Kettu

It will do it already, but only at a whole file level. If Something.somelanguage.php is not availiable, then Something.english.php will be loaded.

Well it didn't work with the mods I installed in past. I could see the entries only after I switched to english language or after installing a German language pack.

He (mbirth) moved some language stings to a new language file. Because of this there are some "english" strings if the language file of the used language does not exist.

The language fallback of the smf doesn't work with all mods, because most of them don't add a new language file but edit the existing ones.
The changes i posted some times ago in this thread linked above add a system which works even with mods which do not use its own language files but slows down your board a little bit because you have to include twice as much language files.
