Otsikko: Stay with RC2 and never change...
Kirjoitti: mark7144 - syyskuu 17, 2006, 05:34:15 IP
I have a few mods and have made quite a few custom changes in some of the files of my RC2 forum and I just think upgrading to RC3 will be too much hassle. So my question is: Is it perfectly fine to stay with RC2 for as long as I want?

You fine if there have been no security fixes in RC3. But the downside if a hole comes out later on you will need to patch it manually or figure out how it was patached in order to make your board safe.

I installed the latest RC2 security patch with no problems - is that was you are referring to? But will these security patches continue to be released for RC2?

There is a security package found in your package manager for those who wish to stay with RC2 that you should (if you haven't done so already) install. As long as you have that patch installed, you should be able to continue running RC2 with no security worries, at least until a new security vurnerability is found (if one is to be found).

You made this post after I started writing what I did above. :) There probably will not be any more patches made for RC2. I would say it is safe to stay with RC2 for now. But when final comes out your really should upgrade as it should be that much more stable and then you can install minor releases through the package manager, which you cannot do with the beta/RC releases.

Thanks for your reply.

Is there a way for me to upgrade to RC3 by editing each file by file? Also any idea how long this would take?

No good way. It would take a very long time.

I would wait till SMF 1.1

Will there be an upgrade for RC2 to 1.1 Final?
