:-[ First, I've modified the default SMF theme to include my logo banner across the top, but it won't stay centered. Originally, its' position was "float: right". I changed that to "float: center" and "float: middle". When I made these changes it locked the logo banner in place on the left, instead of keeping it centered when the screen gets wider or narrower. I guess that I don't mind it being locked on the left side, but shouldn't I go back and change the positioning to "float: left"? The logo banner is named "Forum_Header1.gif".
Second, I changed the catbg.jpg to a solid yellow block. This changed the category backgrounds to yellow how I wanted them. Now I need to change the other title or category backgrounds to a dark blue color. I don't see any reference in either the HTML or PHP code to the title areas that are still grey-blue. I want to change the title area color to the same dark blue color that will be on my future website footer. How do I change these title area background colors? I know some HTML that I've learned while making my website.
Finally, I want use the same Lt. blue background with balls that I use as the background for my website. Does anyone know how to do this?
My forum is www.sportshortz.com/smf (http://www.sportshortz.com/smf). My current website is www.sportshortz.com (http://www.sportshortz.com). Any help will be greatly appreciated.
-Thanks :-[
Whoo! I see by your home page that you are a newbie at webdesign, so I will be gentle ;D (it's cute, though)
Floats only go left or right, there is no such animal as "float:center" - you have to use other means to center an object. Simply adding align="center" to the table cell that contains the logo should do.
If you are going to add a background, you will need to make a tiling image, not a whopper like "HomepageBackground2.gif" (and BTW capital leters in a file name are a bad idea); something no larger than 256px square, and a JPG of moderate quality is best. Then plop "balltile.jpg" or whatever you call it in your theme's image directory and add to the (CSS) body
background-image: url("images/balltile.jpg");
(it might work without the quotes, but...)
You can make a blue-on-white one too, and use that for the background of the main table (the big gray frame).
If you need any more specific tips, gimme a holler. Here is an example of a theme I made that has some similarities -

That's my test forum. My "real" one is 1.1 RC3
