I am in the middle of uploading SMF RC3 now I havne never used SMF before but it looks like the right choice for me anyway. I noticed that nearly all the Themes in the themes section were made for RC2, I was wondering if this meant they were definenlty not available for RC3 or if it had simply not been updated yet.

You need to use RC3 themes.

RC2 themes will work fine as there have only been a few minor changes to templates in RC3
