AChat is an AJAX powered webchat, create with a mixture of HTML, PHP and JavaScript. The thing that makes it different from other chat systems is it displays no signs of refreshing. Its fast and supports BB codes, emoticons and a few admin functions.

AChat is currently in ALPHA stage, we would like you to install it and use it, but we would also like you to feedback on how well it works for you and any suggestions you may have.

ALPHA 0.2 - Fixed a bug that only occured to PHP V4.x users, now AChat should work correctly for those recieving a JSON ERROR.

Check out our other cool stuff at: http://tpvgames.co.uk

Tell you what guy! I just installed it on my forums, and so far, you looks good.

Can you tell me how to change the Text on the border to the Chat Box from ACHAT Chat room to my own branding? Of course keeping your credits in the footer.

I would also like to see some admin/permission functions added for various membergroups. But nice!

Just tried this and got an Internal Server Error (I think a number 404 too)when I clicked on the chat link. The smileys and the field to enter the posts showed up but got the error message where the chat field should have been.

Just curious, what kind of technique is behind the chat? are you checking the events over an eventlistener or are you using a periodical update of the container?

both would be a big performance prob on small servers.

Is is possible to add a # of users in chat status line on the index page of the forum?  I would like my forum members to know if anyone is in the chat room...  Excellent mod so far, very smooth operation.

It works great for me.

Man, this mod has alot of potiental. I hope you continue working on it. I also hope you plan on adding some swf sound to post, and room enter and exit.

This could be the coolest chat ever. I like flashchat, but it really drains resources of the server. This is the best chat...

The mod is really cool, but is anyone else experiencing huge amounts of reports in their error log in the admin panel from using it?

Seems every time someone submits something in chat it makes a new report in the log.

So why is this mod approved?
Mod Authors: Modification Approval Guidelines (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=117819.0)

I am a mod developer myself, and I was very scrupulous in trying to submit only final versions of my mods. Not even the beta versions. First I spend some time to check that everything works fine, and all the features are completed. Then I try to find some folks who are willing to test. And only then to submit my mod.
Seeing a mod approved that is in alpha status really seems a mockery of those who really spend their free time making sure that the mod they submit works fine.
Even more is a mockery from the person who submits mod in alpha version.

Ok, obviously the SMF team is too busy to respect and apply it's own rules.
I'm getting really fed up with how things go around here.
[offtopic]
For those who followed the recent events around my persona, just so you know, I reported another two bugs in the 1.1 Final. And after a couple of hours it is still ignored, in spite of the fact that I've seen almost all the support staff online, some have been online for hours, some I've seen even marking topics unread. Still the report was read only 7 times, from which 4 is me re-reading what I wrote. All this in a board for Charter Members, with very little activity - so it's pretty hard to miss it once you open the board.
I don't know anymore what to do. I wait another day and start to PM all the team, maybe they start to listen to me. After that I just move aside, I'm trying to support the software, but it seems that there's no need or desire for help from outside. Or resources. Excuses don't interest me anymore.

dude the damn thing works perfect, I installed it on a custom theme, single click.  Its not feature heavy yet, but stable, we've had about 50 people in the chat room for the past few hours burning it in. NO issues at all.

the current features in my mod work perfect, the label "beta" is placed on my modification because theres still a huge amount of work to do and I cant do the whole thing anytime soon (i have a life to live outside computing...).

People who are getting problems are either installing it wrong, or theres a conflict with modifications. Also may I thank those who left positive remarks in this topic, I will be doing more work on this mod in a month or so (so darn busy lately lol).

I've recently installed the chat module found here on simplemachines.org, but I would like to deny access to guests, so only registered members can chat.

This looks like a promising mod.  I've been using an AJAX chatroom on my forum, but it's filesystem-based, and I've been looking for a mysql-based one, and SMF integration would be a bonus. :)

You can easily deny access to guests by adding the following line to your index.template.php in your themes/yourtheme folder:

if ($context['user']['is_logged'])

right under // the [tpvchat] button.
and above echo ($current_action=='tpvchat'

Some comments on how to improve this mod:

basic functionality needed:

- show who's online
- allow copy/paste of content
- admin option to allow/deny guests in the chat

extra functionality:

- bb code buttons and more bb functionality ([url], [color] and some others don't work)
- admin option to wrap messages (meaning you can fold a number of messages open or close with a specific name, such as: "Coding Discussion September 15th" or similar), ...

Title: Fixing aChat issues
Post by: signal15 on December 10, 2006, 04:59:00 PM
I got the error creating the table also.  I pulled the code from the php script used to install it, logged into MySQL and ran this:
CREATE TABLE `smf_tpv_chat` (
  `ID` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
  `DATE` longtext NOT NULL,
  `NAME` longtext NOT NULL,
  `MESSAGE` longtext NOT NULL,
  `TYPE` longtext NOT NULL,
  PRIMARY KEY  (`ID`)
) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=1 ;

Replace the smf_ in the first line with whatever your database prefix is.

I was getting undefined variable messages and session errors, and I got rid of them by editing tpvchat.template.php:
- After line 241 ($var1=$key;), add "$count=0;"  (so it will be added on line 242)
- comment out session_start(); on line 6  (the session is already started in another php script)
- around line 111, change  buildemotetree($themedir); to  buildemotetree($settings['theme_dir']);

I'm also getting:
8: Undefined index: chatsession

As I understand it, this error really isn't a problem.  It's basically just PHP saying it didn't find the session.  Supposedly it can be fixed with a ternary operator, but I haven't gotten around to trying it.  I would like to fix it though so my database doesn't fill with a bunch of crap.

This worked perfect on my 1.1 install and gets a (nice) user off my back. She's been nagging me for a chat feature for ages and none of the others seemed to work like we'd hoped.

Thank You!!!  :D

1.1.2 will run it if you edit the package-info.xml to include that version however you will alos need to edit in accordance with Signal 15's postings above (thanks Signal 15!) and will still be left with one error that keeps filling up the error log...also see previous postings for that.

My, highly unofficial, build is below...it includes the bug fixes Signal 15 was kind enough to detail in previous postings and seems to be compatible with SMF 1.1.2...I tested it and there were no unexpected issues.

Unfortunatly the bug detailed in previous postings as unresolved remains unresolved in this build and will give errors...the system is useable however.

Name uprated to SMF_AChat_0_2_0a to distinguish it from the last official version.

Use at your own risk...

I put it on a new board not an upgraded one...a clean install with a few other mods (arcade, staff, links, tags, expand pages...) but not a huge number...all went without a hitch. As I said earlier the unresolved bug reported in earlier postings is still there but that aside there were no other issues.

But I get an error.  We're almost there!

Here's the error I get:

I wonder if it's a CHMOD issue...did you go to Admin>Packages>Options>Cleanup Permissions and make all files writeable...if not try it post adding the mod and see if that helps. Check via ftp to see that your server did indeed alter the permissions.

Quotedid you go to Admin>Packages>Options>Cleanup Permissions and make all files writeable

Well, what do you know.  I changed the permissions to be "All files are writable." and now the chat room seems to work.

Thanks!

Actually you should do that before installing any mod package...just for future reference.

Pretty nice chat.  I like how it integrates and follows the forum skin.

Obviously it would be nice to have some admin functions and the ability to deny guests from the ACP. Users inside chat would be nice.

But the basic functionality of the chat is very nice.  My users liked it.  Looking forward to an update!!!!!

If you look at his website it seems as though he's the sort of developer, not uncommon, who works in fits and spurts...nothing for a long time then a lot of work then nothing for a long time...

If you feel like getting him to actually say it's OK to do that alteration I'll do it...no problem...if he will say that he's happy to have alterations made ad hoc then some of us can get together and do more to maintain the mod (not that we haven't anyhow.)

I just don't think it's fair to grab his work and take out the authorship title line like that without his knowing and either approving or simply handing on the torch as regards future development...he's been good enough to give his work to us FOC so we owe him some respect over the title line at least.

BTW don't, for a moment, think that I don't get just as frustrated as you when a good mod gets abandoned.

I've done a rather dirty bug fix...I've knocked out the use by guests in a session and by doing so also removed the bug when use by registered members gives "undefined session" errors.

It's not a good fix but it does work...if anyone wants it I'll provide it...but I'm also trying to do a better fix in any case.

I have removed the last error, and been chatting with a couple of fellows for a while now and everything seems to be running just fine. Assuming the problem was simply the php, and looking over the code, guest have the session variable set as their name. Rather than screw with anything happening there since the names for logged in members since the name was displaying properly, I elected to just declare the variable empty.

Right before the members logged in html document <?php
}
}
else
{
$_SESSION['chatsession']='';
?>

<!DOCTYPE ...

Everything seems good

Thankyou...the extra comment lines do make the code better documented and the rest looks good to me...I'll test it pretty thoroughly tomorrow and unless I find something untoward, or you say otherwise, I'll make it part of a new package on Tuesday...hope that's OK with you?

BTW before I package it I'll change the room title.

Thanks again.

Oh yeah, I forgot I changed that too.

Unless someone knows something this interfers with, over a couple of hours of constant chatting to which I was a part, and not a single error in the log. So it seems to be a sufficient fix, feel free to add it, figure if the error before was undeclared variable, whatever it was supposed to do before wasn't working anyway so...

* you may want to address the width of the textarea, drop it to 99 or 98%, it displays differently in all op,ff,and ie, but on ie it's noticebly slightly too big if your leaving the table edits in, also those edit have'nt been applied to both cases, only recognised members.

Also I might add, Changing the form to a you must be signed in bit of text should be sufficient for keeping the average guest out of the area, it eliminates the necesary step of giving themselves a name.

Simplest solutions, those are the ones I'll figure out :P

Hopefully I will be less rushed soon...mind you it's a pity that the original developer isn't here helping the rest of us out isn't it...(heavy hint.)

ok hi guys!
it is my first post here and I am a kind of newbie in SMF since I used it since few weeks. I warn you right now, I don't write english very well  ;)

But whatever..

I had a very accurate idea of the kind of shoutbox I'd liked since I already coded one for my previous board (IPB 1.3).
So I get this shoutbox and begin to add many modifications in order to fullfill my needs and integrate it in a better way with SMF.

So here is a list of modifications I already made :

And now the issues still appending but that a friend of mine is coding :

Here is a screenshot of the actual version without the online users list.

I will publish the mod when all issues discussed above will be done. And when I will have time for it. So....hum.. count 1-2 months.   :P

So, does it interest someone ?

Title: Re: SMF AChat - AJAX powered chat room
Post by: TrueSatan on April 27, 2007, 09:32:50 PM
It looks like you're trying to uninstall the mod...the fail is in your database when the mod tries to drop the tpv_chat table (via tpvchat_remove.php)... Unless you particularly want to get rid of the table (use phpMyAdmin to drop it) no harm will be done by leaving it there. Check to see that the rest of the uninstall went properly...the only file you need be particularly concerned about is index.template.php in your theme directory as that's the only core file the mod affects.

You can use the Package Parser to study the alteration or just unzip the package and look at the modification.xml file which details the changes made...simply reverse them if you need to do a manual uninstall.

Given that in the uninstallation routine the file that doesn't seem to have worked for you (tpvchat_remove.php) would be the last part to run and that I presume you had no other errors then you should be safe to ignore the error report. There's no pressing need to drop the tpv_chat table from your database...it will do no harm if left there.

I absolutely don't mean to spill the beans or trying to ruin the AJAX party.  In fact, I love AJAX (particularly prototype)! with that said.  I just want to express my experience w/ AJAX chat (not this one particular one).

Issues I have faced w/ AJAX + PHP chat.

1.  CPU Usage.
Try to have a room w/ about 50+ "active" chatters.  Chances are one of the chatter has a crappy computer that can't update the messages and even be unable to chat.  With AJAX, they all have "fixed" auto http request to retrieve the message.   So if there computer can't keep up then it really becomes useless.  At least from my experience, about 5-10% of visitors has crappy computer.

2.  Exceeding concurrent cpu processes.
If your using PHP then each request is 1 process.  So, if there's 50 chatters then chances are on each request to update messages, you'll likely to hit 30-50 process at any given time.  What does this mean to the people who host on a share server... your site will be crashed!! well at least w/ bluehost I had.  It'll display error "CPU outtage or can not have more than 20 concurrent process"..some crap like that (it does come back after 5 min, but chances are it'll happen again..again..and again...).  So, if you're going to have ajax chat, you better have a dedicated server.

Again, I don't mean to ruin the party.. just expressing "my" opinion.  As of now, I am using flash+java based chat server and had 0 problems.  Good luck!!!!

Interesting point of view. Thanks to sharing it..

I only experienced chat with 8-9 people in the same time on a shared hosting. It's going well but I can't assess the performance with more people.
I will try to think about it in the best way and then we will see...

Like almost all mods this one only installs into the default theme...any other theme is termed a custom theme and for all custom themes you have to do a manual installation. The official SMF documentation tells you how to do it:

http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=402.msg531#msg531 (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=402.msg531#msg531)

If it is properly installed then that should be very simple...in the default theme there should be a new "chat" tab in the main navigation bar.
Title: Re: SMF AChat - AJAX powered chat room
Post by: gerard2003 on August 06, 2007, 03:29:25 PM
Okay, quite a long time..

The odd :
I am finishing my phd so I will have time for a release in not so much time. Few weeks. Not months.
And we reach what it seems to be a quite stable version... I will freeze this one and make a mod.

The evens :
There is no support of "guest" users. Sorry. Didn't have time and need fot that.
It has not been tested with more than 8 users in the same time.

The big issue :
I changed so much things in the code that's it is now a VERY different piece of code. Actually, I can hardly say if I keep something.. There is now 3 scripts, 2 databases table, more Ajax, a different template ...

So, does owners of this mod allow me to release my version as a new one, since it is more or less brand new ?
Title: Re: SMF AChat - AJAX powered chat room
Post by: TrueSatan on August 06, 2007, 05:11:03 PM
As best I understand matters...SMF staff please correct this if I am in any way incorrect...

The owner (as in author of the code) has been unavailable for some considerable time...your mod would need to be considered as a new mod but if it uses any code from this mod then attribution to this mod and to its author should be given in the "Read Me" in the new mod.

I'll take the liberty of PMing you with some thoughts regarding the releasing of the new mod if I may?

Pretty close to it...some members, myself included, have worked to maintain the mod and do a few bug fixes...there is thus a version offered as an attachment to a post in this topic that works with current versions of SMF and doesn't have any remaining issues of note in it but further development of this mod is highly improbable.

Making all files writeable won't have caused the error you report...all it does is to change the CHMOD settings not any edit to the files.

I`ve got customized index.template.php, so there was an error during installation. What changes, except menu, I must do at this file (maybe this causes error I described at previous post).
Title: Re: SMF AChat - AJAX powered chat room
Post by: TrueSatan on September 11, 2007, 04:52:06 AM
I would be surprised if this mod had caused the problem you report as it does very little in the way of editing to the forum files...in fact it only edits index.template.php and only to add the button to the main navigation menu...I would suspect that your problem is really with some other edit made to that file.

You might be best to look at an unedited version of the file then apply edits to it again testing after each one to try to spot what caused the problem.

Hi
I'm not having any luck getting the AChat working!

I installed the standard download but un-installed it as it wasn't working then installed your version SMF_AChat_0_2_0a.zip!

When I run Chat I get the following error:
"A file permissions error has occurred. Please check the permissions on the script and the directory it is in and try again."

I've set all files in the chat folder to 777

some errors from the log:
Undefined index: chatsession
File: /home/sites/my-web-site/public_html/forum/Themes/default/tpvchat.template.php (eval?)
Line: 226

Undefined index: chatsession
File: /home/sites/my-web-site/public_html/forum/Themes/default/tpvchat.template.php (eval?)

Any hints on what I need to do to get it working would be great?
Thanx

I've done an update to include Cloudee's bug fix and other minor fixes...new file below.

You have a number of things that you aren't doing properly...firstly go to ACP>Packages>Options and set installation options according to the details of your hosting then use Clean up permissions on the same page to make all files writeable and check that it has done so via ftp...if it hasn't then adjust the settings you made in installation options until it does work...this may well resolve your permissions issue...check ACP>Server Settings to make sure that your forum language is set to English and not English utf8. Make sure that you backup both your database and your files before doing any more work on them...in fact you should do this prior to installing or uninstalling any mod or theme.

If there are still problems then proceed as per a manual installation of the mod and check that the edits to each file are in place and not duplicated by your installing and uninstalling.

The links below should help you to do this. Please read:

Well I did set the all the AChat files with 777 but I guess I must have missed something as now it's working :) Thanx...
I haven't had to reset Rights to files that way before to get a MOD working, I guess I missed that info somewhere or I didn't bother readign the instructions as usual  :P
I haven't installed your latest update so I'll do that tomorrow and hope that gets rid of the 2 remaining errors in the logs as above!
I've got a couple of [DEL] when I 1st login but that ok. I know I saw a fix for the incorrect text on one of the smilies so not bad at all ;)
Only thing remaining is getting the Chat button to show on the Menu on the theme I'm using and that should be job done.

Thanx to coders for getin this great MOD working.

tried the mod  SMF_AChat_0_2_0b.zip  and get this Template Parse Error!
There was a problem loading the /Themes/default/tpvchat.template.php template or language file. Please check the syntax and try again - remember, single quotes (') often have to be escaped with a slash (\). To see more specific error information from PHP, try accessing the file directly.

You may want to try to refresh this page or use the default theme.
syntax error, unexpected T_ELSE

I tried installing SMF_AChat_0_2_0b.zip twice but couldn't get it working so installed ver a and done a couple of small edits.
I also had to reset the file Rights in Admin and then it worked fine!
I always test MOD's using the default theme first just in case that's part of your problem!

Some of the items you quote are normal operations of the mod...the admin entered, left etc...but the others suggest that you haven't got your forum CHMOD settings right...please also put the language settings right as follows:

You need to go to ACP>Server Settings and set your forum language to English and not English utf8 and to ACP>Features and Options>Basic Settings and uncheck Enable user-selectable language support.

You need to go to ACP>Packages>Options>Installation Options and set the fields according to your hosting details then on the same page go to Cleanup Permissions and select All files Writeable and run the cleanup...check via ftp that CHMOD of all your files is now 777 or 775 according to the peculiarities of your hosting and if not recheck the settings you made in Installation Options and run the cleanup again...continue as needed until you get the right settings.

I tried all that still the same and it is also dumping all kinds of errors in my forum error log as well. Seems to me that it does not work well with 1.1.4.

Seems to me I have it running on several SMF 1.1.4 forums with no problems at all...please do not assume that because you are having a problem there is anything wrong with this or any other mod...if you don't see reports of problems from other members it is unlikely to be the case.

I would suggest that you try the mod on a fresh test forum to see if there is a problem running it on your hosting.

My pleasure...I'll just add one pointer to potential problems and for which you should check...make sure that the files and directory the mod adds get CHMOD 775 or 777 depending on the peculiarities of your hosting...otherwise that would derail the mod.

tpvchat directory in the source directory and all sub directories and files in it, tpvchat.php in the source directory and tpvchat.template.php in the theme directory are the ones to look for.

Title: Re: SMF AChat - AJAX powered chat room

To do that properly the mod would need to use the SMF permissions system...it never has. If it is to be replaced by a new mod as promised in earlier postings by another member then such work wouldn't really be justified..for now you might consider not allowing guest access to your forum if it is a big problem.

This is not very urgent as all is well with Achat which is great BTW.
The only problem I have is with Admin login not working for IE and Netscaoe, FF is ok after following some advice.

But its up to 500 log error pages in 3 Months which is probably bigger than it should be.
I think  the most important thing is any other errors will get rapidly pushed down out of site as this particular error is created for almost every thing clicked on the site!

Any advice to get rid would be great?

When you see (eval?) in an error report it is telling you that your site choked on the file it shows but that the error was no in that file...an error in another file caused that one to have a problem.

Please uninstall the mod and try version c as per post #128 above.

Well, I've got a few questions:

Can I just overwrite the achat-specific files of the original 2.0.0 alpha with he ones from the 2.0.0 c version? I mean the whole tpvchat folder + any file including tpvchat in its name.

Where should the settings button/section/whatever be located? Aside of the 'clear chat' button on the chat page I failed to find any settings for it.

Firstly this mod is abandoned by its developer and I've just been keeping it on life support pending a better one appearing...as was indicated as being in development by another member but has yet to make an appearance.

You query about overwriting is an odd one...it is not a good way to go about fixing the problem...simply uninstalling the old version and installing the new would be far better...if that were not possible via the Package Manager one could make the changes manually but it would not be at all sensible to assume that only files with tpvchat in their name would be affected. Off hand I can't remember if there were alterations to files the mod adds or affects that don't have tpvchat in their names but a proper manual uninstall of the old mod and install of the new if the Package Manager were unable to be used would be prudent.

Your last query is a simple one to answer...there aren't any.

I know that it was abandoned - a shame, really, 'cause it's awesome. Just like you are awesome for keeping it alive, even if you have to do a heart massage each few days :3 I wonder if and when will gerard2003 release his version, if you can call something with that many changes just a version :3

About the first problem - I already did what you just proposed - that is I removed all the tpvchat code from the problematic file (modification.english.php or something - other mods added something after the sought code and thus it couldn't find it anymore), uninstalled the rest in the normal way and then installed the newest version, adding the needed code to my theme. It works good, though I needed to change few colours.

About the second question - that's good, as I feared that I'd need to search for whatever is wrong with it :3

Thanks.

cya
Raziel-chan

EDIT: Er, I've made a mistake - I uninstalled a different mod that way. This mod's newest version (2.0.0c) has exactly the same code in the installation xml, so whatever is changed is in the proprietary files, thus it can indeed be updated by simply overwriting the chat-specific files :3

Thank you for your kind words. A little FYI...Modifications.english.php isn't a big problem in cases such as this...even if you had left the code in it in place no harm would have been done...it is code that lets the rest of the mod look up the relevant English words to display and thus if, say, the forum were set to French and Modifications.french.php were created and the appropriate code put in that it would be used. Leaving the English text in place, unused, in Modifications.english.php has no effect on other mods.

My suspicion would be that the edits you have applied to install the mod into that custom theme are at fault or the way it is making use of the SMF default theme's files is at fault. The error keeps pointing to the default theme's Admin.template.php which makes me wonder if the your custom theme has it's own Admin.template.php...if it doesn't then please try copying the file from the SMF default theme into your custom theme.

Try the above first then if you still have the problem check to see if when you switch to the SMF defult theme does the error persist? If it doesn't then you have a theme problem and will either have to try to fix the theme based on the advice I've given you or if you can't fix it either opt to live with the problem, get rid of that theme or don't use this mod.

CHAT ( 8 )

That would be a cool mod for this chat.  Show the number of users in the chat next to the button.  How could you do that?

Any way to do an easy mod that shows users in the chat room.
An admin panel would be nice.
Can you legally mod a mod?

I did the "no guest" mod - that is a nice feature.

you can change the name of your chat room by moding the tpvchat.template file.  Near the top of the code look for this:

            <td align="center">AChat Chat Room</td>
Change the name to what ever you want.

I also found the auto refresh line and changed it from 1 (every 1 sec.) to a 5 (every 5 secs.)
Not sure of the pros/cons but at least my computer isn't loading the chat page every second!

Is this good or bad?

Still doing some basic mods.

I changed the date format from d/m/y to m/d/y

Trying to do a time offset by 2 hrs.  In php how do you mod the following code at +2 hrs?
I assume h:i is hours and mins.

\''.date("m/d/y - h:i").'\'

This is in the chat.php file

Time off-set was easy

just put this at the top of the chat.php page

putenv("TZ=US/Central");

replace central with eastern or what ever time zone your in.  to a search for php off set times for more time codes.

I think I found what the problem is with the [DEL] issue I posted.

When someone leave or enters, the mod is posting a statement but there either is not text or you  cant see any text.  It's just a small gray band where there should be text.

I must have moded something that is causing this.  I changed a font size from 20 to 16 - that shouldn't be it.  Any ideas?

I was going to post a question as to why when someone enters/leaves the mod doesn't post a statement - but I think I know the issue now - just don't know how to fix it yet.

Any experts on this mod know why I can't see the text when someone enters or exits.  It's just a gray line with the [DEL] option on the right of the grey line.

I checked code on chat.php and it looks fine.

Reading back through the 9 pages of post about this mod - I see that others have asked "why are there so many [DEL] staggered across the page. I know why.....

This is happening because the mod IS NOT displaying the text when MEMBERS enter and leave the chat.  If you notice - this happens every time a member enters or leaves.  For some reason the mod is not displaying XXX MEMBER HAS ENTERED!! or XXX MEMBER HAS LEFT....

Surely someone can figure out why these announcements work for ADMIN and GUEST but not for MEMBERS.

I know nothing about PHP - I can only analyze lines and make small customized changes.  In looking at the code that handles these statements - I can't find anything wrong.

Please help - Since this mod does not have a who's in the room option - at least announcing it would help.

Here is a list of basic mods I made to the chat:

A CHAT MODS

FILE: sources/tpvchat/func/chat.php file

1. Time Offset - anywhere near top:
putenv("TZ=US/Central");
change "central" to your TZ

2. change all ENTER / LEFT text

3. change all d/m/y  to  m/d/y

FILE: themes/default/tvpchat.template.php

4. at top, change name of forum

5. Near the bottom of code - you see "refresh" code -  change the refresh freq:
frequency:4,

FILE: forum/index.php

5. Hides chat unless logged in - place above the tpvchat button array
if ($context['user']['is_logged'])

note: you can also copy the entire botton code and move it to another place so that the CHAT button appears where you want it in the button bar.

Anyone out there?

It would be awesome to fix this bug.  Since we don't have a chat room list of who's in the room - the simple announcements of who enters/leaves would help.

I think it would be easy to fix since we have the correct code working for ADMIN and GUEST but not logged in members.  Surly someone that knows PHP programing can figure it out.

IDEA - could you have the code that list who enters/leaves appear in another window -  this would show you who's in the room.  When someone leaves it would make their name go away.  I assume this is how other chat programs do it - if not this may be an easy  way to do it.

Thanks!

My forum members are bummed that you can't tell who's in the room.  Almost nothing is going on in the chat room except people popping in going "is there any one in here"  then they leave.

What chat are SMF users using that integrates well?

What's the word on this mod working with a shoutbox installed to the template.php? Does the individual chat page interfere with the shoutbox mod?

Hi,

I have just installed the achat mod in my forum and its working well, but was wondering if anyone can give me a link to a more recent mod with things like, whos in the chatroom, possibly enable private chat rooms?

I am not a computer whizz so simplicity is the key for me! Can anybody help??

I installed it in SMF version 1.1.5 and works to a degree. Still comes up with errors in the log:

8: Undefined index: changeposteridno
File: /home/newsite/public_html/69/Themes/default/languages/Post.english-utf8.php (eval?)
Line: 558

8: Undefined index: changeposterid
File: /home/newsite/public_html/69/Themes/default/languages/Post.english-utf8.php (eval?)
Line: 557

I think that the ability to know who is in the chat room is essential and look forward to seeing a version with that feature.

Change line 26 of func/chat.php where it says:

The same for line 38.

I have a stupid question,
In Ajax chat download, extracted to PC,
there are no php files
just xml

In the directions it say after uploading to server run /chat/install.php

and in the manual install I have to edit index.php in /chat/
bit nothing there.

"What am I missing here?"

EDIT - Nevermind. I forgot to upload and run tpvchat_setup.php and sbox_setup.php from the forum directory. Manual install parser doesn't really make that clear.

Love the chat!  Installed so easy!

I have a couple of questions.  Is it possible to have more than one chat for a board?  I want a chat for adults 18 and over and a chat for kids under 18.  How can I do this using your program?

Also, the area for Admin Functions doesn't have any thing next to it.  The only thing I can do is clear the chat.  I wanted to be able to put our name on the chat and see what other options I have as the admin.  I saw on another post that this is where I look.  But again, all it says is:
Admin Functions:  <there's nothing here>
Clear Chat button

Rudolf, alpha versions should be allowed since I dont have time to test myself on all versions of SMF and all server types I need some way to hit everyone and straighten out bugs. Big companies do this all the time such as Microsoft and etc. Noone can ensure smooth running of PHP scripts because of all the different servers and configurations. Sorry if this disappoints you somewhat but at least I'm honest and dont write that the mod is 100% safe and works great.

I've just picked up this mod again and im working on it once again, so any suggestions or problems please let me know :) if your using this mod already please update to 0.2.0

yes you need to run tpvchat_setup.php. I dont know how you can do this manually?? try making a php file with include('SSI.php path here...'); include('tpvchat_setup.php path here...'); and I think hopefully that will setup the DataBase you require in SMF :) also try installing the newer version 0.2.1

I checked code on chat.php and it looks fine.

Give me a PM if your still having this issue and I will try and help best I can :)

Sorry I had personal life problems, but im back to continue this mod :)

I cant get Ajax chat to install on version 1.1.11  :(  This is mainly because im a Dummy and dont know how to make the needed adjustment. Can someone Please!!! give me a step by step (Adjustments for Dummys) Way to fix this?? here is what i get when i try to install. the #3 item about permissions is the problem.  And please!!! be very specific about the way to complete the fix, step by step, as ive already admitted to being a complete idiot.  :o

Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

I have made adjustments to the code that have been described in this thread.
The Mod is working correctly, at least how i want it to work with one exception.
Is there any way we an get this to open up the chat in a separate window?
So users can be in the chat and still browse the site.

Create|Edit a button in your website, possibly the menu bar, through subs.php and set the href to:

Quote'http://chaturl" target="_blank',

Simply edit the url do fit your website structure.

Or if you use a portal system, you can create a block that contains the chat in it (depending on what portal you use, you can make the chat collapsable. In that case, make a HTML block with this:

Quote<iframe src="http://something.com/forum/chat/" width="100%" height="500px" />

Again, edit the url, and note that height and width parameter can be given in pixels or %, experiment with it to see the effects.

Finally, if you don't use a portal system but want to put the chat into all pages of the site, you can use the Global headers and footers mod, and add the iframe to the header or the footer, making the chat get displayed throughout the entire website either at the top or bottom, respectively.

If you wanna have a quick idea of what the portal version looks like, click in the LinKloud logo in my signature.

Has anyone any idea how many members can be in Ajax chat at once?

I see there's a counter "0/1040! in the bottom left corner, but this doesn't change when people enter/leave the room.

This looks like an awesome Mod... or would be *if* someone would take it on and get it functioning properly. Right now it's just tantalising! :)

I've no expertise whatsoever in Ajax so can't even begin to help but boy I wish someone would.

My own installation at http://www.australianopinion.com just returns "Internal Serve Error" when I try to use it. I tried using CHMOD to set all files at 777 as someone suggested somewhere in the thread, but it didn't work. Maybe the Mod will never work with SMF version 1.1.11 but I live in hope.

If anyone has any suggestions about resolving our error I'd appreciate them. :)

Hi. I just successfully installed this using the package installer (not sure what it called) and the thing is there is no chat icon on the navigation bar the one on top. Is this because of the theme i'm using. I'm using pBlue theme.

Yes. You can access the chat by this adress www.site.com/forum/index.php?action=AChat

This mod is great but it needs lots of attention and some nice updates. Especially on the CHMOD stuff. But good job. Very simple, easy and nice.

im using SMF 2.0.1 and using the insidious template.i want a group chat on my forum how do i do this?i also already have SA Chat Beta 3 Rev40,but i also want a group chat on my forums.

every time i try to install the ajax(AChat_0_2_1.zip),or(Mibbit Ajax IRC Chat) , or (AjaxChat Integration) ,i get this message:Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

i cant install any of the ajax chats.i dont understand,i even uninstalled all other chats i had on my forum and im still getting this message.PLEASE HELP.

Hey everyone, I really appreciate all the requests to continue this mod. I originally stopped working on this mod because there were others with similar names floating around this forum. I've decided that getting this mod back to working order for SMF 2 is obviously wanted by the community so I ask you all kindly to hold tight for a few weeks and I will get to work on a new updated version of this mod that will install and work in SMF 2.

Once I have it stable again I can consider working on some new features and bug fixes from original development.
