Hi all,
I'm writing a paper and I was wonder if anyone knew where I could obtain a rough but realistic estimate of the number of active SMF installations on the web?
Thanks in advance,
Peter
http://www.google.com.au/search?q=%22powered+by+SMF%22&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official Gives you a few, but it also has many duplicates.
You could also total up the number of downloads for the install packages from the downloads page (and archived releases page too). But again not too accurate. I don't know of anyone would have more accurate statistics.
Thanks for the tips eldka.
Even if you greatly reduced the numbers returned by the first search to factor in duplicates - it's a very impressive number 8)
there are many places google does not list also.
The number of install package downloads (not counting upgrade and update) has exceeded the million mark a few months ago. But that number doesn't include the SMF installations that are distributed through third parties, like Fantastico and Lycos.
nor does it include the people who download a single time to use it within multiple domains/subdomains/test accounts etc. I myself have downloaded it a single time but currently have 9 different sites using it for various reasons.
