Hi, lots of new registration has been flooding my phpBB forums. I am thinking of switching it over to SMF. But I would like to know if there is any spam protection for SMF besides the email activation.
The bots would just spam you with 100 new accounts every month which is not activated.
Thanks in advance.
Someone can't register twice using the same computer session. A spam bot can't register two members without actually logging in with an account. Since they are unactivated, they can't login. So they can't create multiple accounts.
1.1 RC3 has also a visual verification image. If you don't like it (many people don't), you can use the advanced visual verification mod. It is more effective for defeating bots.

HarzeM: They do not need to activate that account, they can just spam your forum with registered accounts which is not activated, I deleted like almost 600+ inactivate account (not activated) from bots.
NEMINI: thanks

If they don't activate any accounts, bots cannot register twice from a computer. That was what I'm saying. SMF is a bit better than phpBB in this aspect. You can't get 600 inactive accounts.
they can't because SMF check for cookie/ip log?

Actually, session log. You can't register twice in one session. Session is like cookie, but somehow different, and saved in the server instead of the browser.
thanks, i have decided to give it a try when it reaches 1.1 =D
