Title: User default post color
Post by: Amacythe on September 01, 2003, 03:20:07 AM
Notice:
This tip has been in some way ported over to be a modification package located on the SMF modsite (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=408). Please note, the mod package may not do the exact same function and may not even use any of the code originally written for the tip, but should still hold the same basic functionality of the tip posted here. With the mod package for this tip, you can now let the SMF package manager make the code changes for you without you having to look at the code and edit it manually.

For documentation on using the SMF package manager, view this document (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=49.0).

To download the modification package, [please click here (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=408)].

How about a setting in profile to select default font and/or color for the member's post?  I know I've seen that before, I think on an ikonBoard.

What exactly does this option do. I didn't get it. Do you mean every usergroup should have another colour in posts?
Title: Re:colors
Post by: Wezz6400 on September 01, 2003, 06:22:36 AM
I think he means setting a default font and color for the messages you post on the forum. You can change them using SMFC and I think he wants to set set the default per user in the profile.
Title: Re:colors
Post by: Amacythe on September 01, 2003, 05:04:46 PM
I mean let each member select their own font color/style so their posts will always default to that color/style unless they select a different color/style ... and um... I'm female.

Sounds like it would probably be a very simple Mod, actually.. I'll look into it when SMF is available.

I know one person on my forum ALWAYS does every post in blue sup.

something like this.

I know I've thouhgt about adding this feature to my board at least...

I'd definately be up for that feature :)

Thanks,

Well, considering that next time I set up a forum, I'm planning to disable the font, size, color, shadow, glow tags (at least), I most probably would not care for this feature.

I can see, though, how many would value it, if not built-in, as a mod at least.

In a forum I created, most users had their own style, certain combinations of the above mentioned tags and sometimes even move. That's where I got the phobia that made me want to disable them all in the future. :P

Perhaps this is what you're after?

Title: Re: colors
Post by: madfiddler on October 16, 2004, 08:30:17 PM
I stuck this on... The only thing I could find was in the profile, under layout and settings there were two new windows... The description for each was ":" - just a colon... so I don't know if these are boxes for the colour setup or not.. and if they were, how do you use them?

Thanks,

Mark.

Not working for me. I tried in RC2 and RC1. Also I have to manually add the language to the Modifications.english.php even though the Package Manager tells me that the installation was successful.

It also adds a checkbox to Current Theme Settings, with no desciption to it..

add this to your Modifications.english.php
$txt['bbc_before'] = 'Automatic BBC Before Posts';
$txt['bbc_after'] = 'Automatic BBC After Posts';
$txt['disallow_auto_bbc'] = 'Disallow automatic BBC';

but even so, it's still not working now unless I am adding the tags incorrectly.

So do you put the open bbc tags in the first box in your profile, and the close bbc tags in the second box?

Yes, from what I understand. That's what I did, I tried simple bold tags but it doesn't work for me.

Just out of curiosity, where exactly is that custom information stored (tags)? I don't see them stored in the database anywhere.
Title: Re: colors
Post by: [Unknown] on October 17, 2004, 01:42:11 AM
It's in the themes (theme options and settings) table.

If a message is wrapped with this new mod using a color tag, for example, and another one is used again in the message, wouldn't this nest them?
Title: Re: colors
Post by: [Unknown] on October 17, 2004, 01:50:45 AM
It only does this when posting.  If you edit a message, it doesn't add them.

The downside is that if you quote a message, it also doesn't add them.  It also doesn't work with quick reply.  It was a quick patch and really only meant to show how it could be done....

I think it's better as a mod.

Just make this:

      if (trim($options['bbc_before']) != '' && trim($options['bbc_after']) != '')

Instead this:

      if (trim(@$options['bbc_before']) != '' && trim(@$options['bbc_after']) != '')

Title: Re: User default post color

Yes, I did...

But somewhere along the line I must have replaced the Post.template.php file with an old backup and it was missing again.

Thanks
Title: Re: User default post color

if ($message == '' && empty($settings['disallow_auto_bbc']))
{
if (trim(@$options['bbc_before']) != '' && trim(@$options['bbc_after']) != '')
$message = @$options['bbc_before'] . "\n\n" . @$options['bbc_after'];
else
$message = @$options['bbc_before'] . @$options['bbc_after'];
}

Is that right?

I thought I had this fixed, but I am still getting pages and pages of errors.  All occur during action=post either to a board or a pm

8: Undefined index: bbc_before
File: ... /forum/Themes/default/languages/Post.english.php (eval?)

if ($message == '' && empty($settings['disallow_auto_bbc']))
{
if (!isset($options['bbc_before']))
$options['bbc_before'] = '';
if (!isset($options['bbc_after']))
$options['bbc_after'] = '';

if (trim($options['bbc_before']) != '' && trim($options['bbc_after']) != '')
$message = $options['bbc_before'] . "\n\n" . $options['bbc_after'];
else
$message = $options['bbc_before'] . $options['bbc_after'];
}

Try that.

If you are not getting "Failure" notices but instead don't see a link to install or are getting a message saying the mod is not compatible with your version of SMF try going to the package manager index page on your forum and adding ;version_emulate=1.1 to the end of the url and then pressing enter to run the url. This might work if the mod was specified to only install for certain versions. If you actually happen to get a failure message on a file though, then don't proceed.

install(1.1.1,1.1.2,1.1.3) or something like that, just add ,1.1.4 after 1.1.3. do the same at uninstall

1. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/Profile.template.php Test failed
2. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/Settings.template.php Test successful
3. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/Post.template.php Test successful
4. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/languages/Modifications.english.php Test successful

was wondering if someone could help me out on what I need to change to get this to work??

I can only echo KIMBAL'S post I would love to see these same mods available on this version for my forum too, maybe a few more on the cosmetics side as well to be honest, more colors etc in the boards. Our member's are questioning our thinking about upgrading to this version but I am confident we have done the right thing and at the end of the day I believe in moving forward with software, not back. We all appreciate your all busy people but can we please have more mods asap.
