Title: Multiple Avatars and Name Changing on the Fly...
Post by: Saint_3k on June 16, 2004, 06:20:48 PM
I run a role playing forum off of my website, it's using Yabb SE right now but we may consider switching up to SMF in the next few months. We have a lot of charachters on our board who change alliances very often, and it's becoming a hastle maintaining seperate accounts for each version of the same character.

It would be nice if it became possible, whether nativly or with a plugin, for accounts to be able to have multiple avatars for them (at least 10-20). The user would be able to pick the avatar they want to post with when posting thier message. They should also be able to change thier name on the fly through thier preferences without altering thier posted name on previous messages.  That way if a "Lietenant Karn" gets promoted to "Captain Karn" all of his old messages will still remain under his old Lietenant name, while his new ones will show the new Captain name. These two features would GREATLY improve the usability of SMF as a Roleplaying forum, for me and my crew at least.

Thanks guys.

hmm... well, the best option would be to put their info inside the message, that won't change...

if a message templates mod ever gets done, then you could probably have a dropdown with different templates to choose for that message, in your case, the member could have a template for each alliance or whatever, with the personal pic they want, name they want and signature they want...

and if having the normal info shown next to the msg is a problem, with SMF's template system, you can remove that from displaying

playing with templates will be much easier than modifying the whole way the info for messages is stored
