I made a brad new forum on a sub domain, and for the first time for me; set up a forum that needs admin approval before being allowed access. The members inform me that they had a message stating they will receive an email when they get approval. This is not proving to be the case. I am not informed that there are members waiting for verification; nor are they receiving emails when they are verified.
Misconfiguration? Bug?
Note that you may have also made them activate an email before the approval request is send to you.
And tell them to check there Bulk Mail as some mail servers may put the SMF emails into Bulk mail.
Email problems almost always are because of reverse dns problems. It's part of a spam blocking technique to make sure that emails from yourdomain.com are actually coming from yourdomain.com by looking up your IP. If your hosting is on a shared server (more than one website on it) you probably don't have reverse dns, or if you are hosting from home. The only way to get it is to find a web host that has it or get your ISP to do it for you if you are hosting from home (this usually costs mucho dolares).
Are you using the default theme, or another?

Reverse DNS is there and is working. I'm using the Black Theme by Owdy.
I'm sorry. It seems it was just one person who was having a problem, everyone else is reciving the verification emails. :-[

My users are getting their notifications OK, but I was hoping to receive an e-mail when a member was put into the approval queue. It's not currently happening, but then again, I'm not sure *who* the e-mail would go to anyway... all admins? The webmaster?
Thanks
Mike
I had no experience in this method of forum registration before. However when you log in as admin you will see a notification in your profile bar on the top telling you how many people are seeking registration.
Thanks. I'd noticed that, this is for a low volume forum that has sporadic registrations (could be days between them). However, I'd like to be quick in activating the accounts, so people can read the posted technotes there.
I don't want to have to check it (even daily) since it's not my primary forums, so an e-mail notification would be a perfect trigger for me...
Anyone know if you're even *supposed* to receive e-mails when someone registers?
No emails when someone registers are scent to the admin. There is no way to setup who get's the emails for people who register (as in forum staff have diffrent roles, one role is tregistration, so they would have to recive the emails, and no other staff).

As Mecha said the admin doesn't receive emails when someone registers. I can see the reason why you'd want this to be an option though (especially on quiet forums like you mentioned). How about if I added an option to the registration management area, which would be a text box that you list "people to inform" if a new member registers. If empty no-one gets an email, otherwise everyone listed gets it (assuming they have the power to approve!).
EDIT: I'd have to get Unknown to agree with this so don't hold me to it ;) It just sounds easy and useful...
That would be awesome, exactly what I'd be looking for.
No promises, I know, but thanks for checking it out. :D
I'm glad someone pointed this out. I have received email announcing all new members until now. I miss that option and would be glad to see it return.
Actually, if you search the boards you'll find a hack that sends an email upon user registration. It's a simple sendmail command in register.php.
Thanks for the heads-up. Found it here:

Hi.
Can it be that in SMF 1.1.4 this function has moved to /sources/subs-members.php?
