When the "profile comments mod" came out, I had an idea.
I basically created a myspace within my website. I allowed users to add pictures of themselves and enter more information about themselves and their personal life. I'm hoping that members will find more in common with each other than just paintball and therefore building friendship.
Here are some screenshots

Wow nicey. Looks great as well.
I like this, are you going to release this ? ;D
Looks really nice. You should release it as a mod. :)
Hey Tipp
We've done something similar; but you have two really nice touches that we haven't accomplished yet. We're using the Field Names & Descriptions. But it would be much cleaner to have Section Names & Descriptions, like you've done.
Did you do this using the Custom Profile Fields Mod? How did you get Section Name (Biography Details) & the Section Description (This section is ..safety)? Have you done this for more than one Section on a Profile?
Assistance much appreciated!
Thanks!
I didn't use the custom profile fields mod, i did it myself and put them where i wanted in profile.template.
I think you did a great job, any chance if you telling us how to edit the templates?
I second just about everyone's motion.
Will you release this as a mod? Have you already, or could you tell us how to edit it as you have?
I couldn't release it as a mod because it's vbgamers mod. :P
I'll post how to edit the templates. It's not very hard.
I love the look of this too, I downloaded the mod but I would love to know how you did the layout, it looks really cool :)

any chance of posting this info?
~thanks
Looks neat :D
yeah it does, any more news on how we can put it in our sites?
Didn't know this was stickied, but since it is i'll dish out as much info as i can.
I installed the Profile comments mod, with no modifications.
I made the custom profile fields using unknown's tutorial which you can find here: http://www.unknownbrackets.com/tutorials/custom-profile
In the tutorial it addresses outputing the data in profile.template. All i did was follow his instructions and add a table in profile.template. I don't have the file readily availible, but just look for the current profile details. Find where the table ends, and create a new one right underneath.
thanks for the info Tippmaster, I looked at the tutorial but I still have questions :(
How do you make the personal photo display when in your example it just says 'link to photo' or are you using [img] tags somewhere?
How/where do you add the backgrounds to the headers?
And it has a kinda 3d effect, how'd you do that?
Sorry but yours looks really cool
3d effect? what? And to show the image..i just did it like you'd normally put an image. Using a variable for the url of it.
how can the members put a bigger pic? can i do this using the custom profile mod? all i want is a couple of photos is the profile besides the avatar.

Yeah. I have it so that pic is resized, and clicking on it opens a pop up showing the full sized pic. IDK anything about the custom profile mod.
how did you do that? what did you modify for that to happen?
is there a mod for a blog & gallery for each profile. this will certainly add the icing on the cake...
you could probably use the custom profile mod to add a field for an image and maybe make it a thumbnail?
there is a blog in beta status now, and there is Gallery lite which you could link to profiles maybe
there is also another mod in beta for buddy list with avatars etc, making it like myspace, and a profile comments mod too :D
i've got the buddy list, profile comments, and custom mods.. but how do i link gallery to profiles - can i have a mini gallery in each profile? also where is the blog - should i wait until its out of beta version? how do i make a field for and image using custom profiles? i can only choose selection field or text box..)
looks cool, great idea
can anyone tell me if this is possible... the blog thing is it coming soon or waT?

your forum rocks. I think I'll make a little mod that adds these fields to the profiles as well as a display of the 5 most recent image submissions (SMF Gallery Lite)

awesome! this will diffentely be the best thing out! tippmaster have you considered making a mod for your profile changes? and shomazta, when can you get this done?
cheers
hopefully within a month. It all depends on what happens in the "real world"
oh yes! i can't wait.. keep me informed of your progress!! thanks heaps

note it'll be a tad bit different from TippMasters version... cuz I'm the Sho Mazta haha.. no
seriously I'm going to have it flow with the current profile setup opposed to having a new table underneath =P...
Got any ideas or suggestions please bother me on here or at my site =P
hahah, awesome... defintely we have to have something connected to the gallery lite mod that allows each member to upload pics (of themselves etc.. ) and have them display in their profile.. at least 4 or 5 would be great...
oh and also, something perhaps that members can choose from a variety of profile backgrounds colours and wallpapers.. and once chosen are viewable by everyone.. so the only thing that changes is everything in the 'profile' section...
also, music player..? similar to the youtube video in profile mod, something that people can choose their favourite 5 playlist and have them play from some source..
alot of these ideas are derived from websites similar to myspace, bebo, facebook.. etc.. it'll be great to get those features here!
ooo.. i can't wait...
cheers

this is so cool, it's kinda looks like friendster thinging ^^ Great Idea u've got there
any update on this? thanks
That's really rather quite impressive. Social networking or similar is a great idea for websites to increase "interactivity" between the users. :) In fact, I've actually been looking for something like this.
How much more needs to go into it?
trulu, madagascar, Afterglow86
I'm not sure if these questions/remarks are being directed towards me however if your interested you can view info here : http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=170429.0

Tipp I think I will add this feature on tWG. Sorry, but I have to bite it ;)
this looks great, I would definitely like to have something like this for my members
whoa looks pretty nice
hmm, maybe i'll make this a whole package when i get the time. i think it would be a fun project.
I did something like that too.
Look at this:
http://vrouwenpower.nl/forum/profiel/webrunner-u1.html
I also added the option ta add your own background and to make you your profile available to members only or everybody included guests. :)
When will this come out as a mod, i can't go through editing and all that, smf is much easier nowadays than editing and editing codes.
We've used the approach of "dovetailing" our forum with our main site.
Ok, its a dating site (please, sit back down and stop moaning) but while they link directly to each other, we've kept the membership separate. So, you can join the dating site OR the forum, or both - and have different identities.
The main site has online chat and interactions (multimedia, emails, instant messaging etc.) but the forum has nitty gritty on stuff like "dates from hell" (can I say hell here?), dating jokes and other stuff. So we're thinking if you're not into one, maybe you'd like the other?
Cheers ;D

If you have the custom profile fields mod installed, you can add fields that will accept images posted with [img] bbcode tags or you could try installing the Ultimate profile mod which allows members to upload pictures from their computer to their profile :)
I did something very similar with this before. However, when I upgraded to SMF 2.0 Beta 3.1 the mods weren't transferable, so now I have to wait till the mod upgrades to set it up again.
But it is a great thing to do with that mod. Just another one of those simple touches that mean a lot to members.
Can I add this to my forum and how :)
forum.system-talk.co.uk (http://forum.system-talk.co.uk)
How can you adjust RC1 profile template to include inputs as described in the first post using unknown's tutorial?
Thanks for the advice Tippmaster!
I believe that creating a buzz around your forum and getting members interaction is the best way to create a successful forum.
Not only does your forum become more successful, but the members get to make new relationships and make great new friends, everyone wins!
Please come visit our forum - Philosophy Happiness (http://philosophyhappiness.com), we are always welcoming new friends!
philosophyhappiness you have a nice layout. Just work on promotion and you should be fine, people will register. Very bright and positive site.
I find that awesome!!
SO ... the big question ... is there a mod for something like this yet, or not?
Thanks!
This is cool idea and easy to make with SMF 2.0 custom profile fileds :)
I think this is a great idea, the more people share about themselves the better a community becomes and the more they interact
This way you increased people and their friends visiting and joining your site and thus the numbers grew. People who had things interests in common and could share it out here worked on as responsible members to make this a nice place to visit :)
Your decision to have it this way was a bold one, not many people dare to go like this and the manner in which you have been successful is worthy of talk !
Keep it going !
Can come in handy
Install ultimate profile, change a few codes and your done.
this is just about what I was hoping for in this new release. If we forum owners dont pick up our game we will lose out to places like myspace and facebook. We have to get these profiles more interactive and usable. This will keep members in our communities and on our sites. Profile comments mod was great though i would like to see a profile more like the one posted with blog posts being made by members with cleaner comments section. I think username alone with maybe the avatar would be fine on the comment without all the contact information. That info will be available in the profile.
also wouldnt mind seeing a buddies section in the profile where it lists members buddies etc etc
Anyway i am not a php coder so changing a template would be out of reach for me. A mod or even a better explanation on how to use the custom profiles would be great
I read through this thread and find it really interesting.
Kindly help me review my forum (http://www.theinfostrides.com) and advise on what to do about improving on member interaction and friendship. http://www.theinfostrides.com
Thank you.
LOOKS NICE WELL DONE :)
This is good.
Hi, Thanks for the topic. Do not get annoyed if I tell you that I do not know where to find comment mod ;D

Is this mod available for 1.1.12 if so do you have a link?
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=search;basic_search=profile+comments
Ultimate profile mod's great cos our forum can become like myspace.. member can upload photos, customize profile page, and leave comments. I also installed shop mod where member can buy themes for their profiles. Award mod's also great, people can browse members by clicking on each badge ( i made badge for "profiles with pics", "member born in 1980s", etc).
