All,
During Saturday 30th December there is an upgrade planned for the community forum to take it up to the latest "Development Edition". Due to the scale of changes that will take place during this upgrade - and the fact that this site is built around SMF "Development Edition" - we anticipate a few hours of downtime while we thoroughly test the upgraded forum and track down any integration issues.
While we hope to minimize the disruption to the site here, as a precautionary measure we will be opening our "backup" forum during this time. You can find the backup forum at www.simplemachinesforum.net (http://www.simplemachinesforum.net/community/index.php) where our support staff will be available to answer any support queries during this time. SMF downloads will remain available from the main site page.
We are planning on starting at 3pm GMT (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=12&day=30&year=2006&hour=15&min=0&sec=0&p1=0)
Regards,
Simple Machines
Thanks for the news, much stuff going into the new DE then? :P
It is alright. Would be nice if we see some new features on the new version.
Alexander,
SMF DE contains tons of new features... I see some right now and know theres more through out the site..
Will we ever be told outright what the new features to this forum's version is? Would be nice so we could check em out without them slipping by unnoticed :P
I hear it has the ability to transform into a vB, IPB or phpBB forum in one click and back to SMF
lol ok i made that up :P
Nahhhhh not like that Chit Chat thread with all random crap lol... real stuff
So what is so special about this "Development Edition"?
Its the next major version of SMF.. 8)
The Development Edition is simply the name of the version under development.

Any timeframe for this downtime? Or will it be at any time during that day?
Thanks for the notification :) hope it goes well.

From when it starts to when it ends... ;)

:cough: is it open or closed? I can login and such.. but no boards.

AFAIK, it only opens when this forum is closed ;)
Normally we put it in Maintenance Mode between downtime but we took it out of that and just removed access to the boards so our team members (and the public as a result) could register and then have their access setup. Before we start here we'll make the support boards accessible.

We haven't nailed down an exact time yet. Once we do we'll edit the first post (and probably post in the topic itself) with it.

thanks for the info guys.
hey i just wanted to ask a simple off topic discussion
will this effect the package manager area?
cos I have noticed that when SMF is down for whatever reason, the Package manager area in my SMF fails to load up completely
I dont know why but I am guessing it has something to do with fetching the latest mods from smf part?
This shouldn't affect other parts of the SMF site.
You just will not be able to use the community forums while the update takes place.
So the package manager should still function properly.
@Sleepy: Actually this will affect the entire site.
@akulion: Fortuantly the packges.xml file doesn't do dynamic loading so the package manager should work. Though the mod site will be down for a bit.
Hopefully this will be amazing since SMF shows pure potential (and a lot more than certain others in my honest opinion)

I just figured that out when Jay was talking he had to update the mod site to work with the new DE that was coming.
a new version of SMF ?? That poses a few problems ... I need to check again if all my mods will work with the new version ... and some of them will apparently not ... i like to keep my forum up-to-date and that's a big pain in the b*tt ... please make sure there will be no updates for sometime now and this new version is as complete as humanly possible ... thanks
pulkit,
This Version of SMF isn't released yet... Its in development. They are updating the Development CVS version here to a higher version..
Indeed - as Sleepy said this is purely about the site here - to warn users we are upgrading the support forums. There is no need to worry about another release!

Truly since it may annoy SMF users but would excite the crowd and so forth plus the interval seems small :)
whew ... i thought i'd have to upgrade to a newer version ... that would have made my site members really mad because in the recent past i'v been updating versions and they have had to deal with new and missing features from time to time. they want something stable ... come to think of it, so do I.
and please don't think i don't like SMF. I love it but the upgrades and incompatible mods just get to me.

SMF is an on going project and there will always be updates to it. You are not required to upgrade to the latest (but you are encourage)...
Some of the less used forums I have still use 1.0.2 because I simply don't feel like upgrading them... but my most used forum uses 1.1.1 and will always be up to date :)
T minus 5 minutes?
Yay, back?
As I see there are smaller-bigger problems, hope you guys fix it soon. :)
And we can't hide our email. :P
And we can see the Simple Machines Blogs board. :P
And we can see some top secret information. :-X
seems so that some functions are not still implemented right now
QuoteShow WYSIWYG editor on post page by default
doesn't work
QuoteFirst day of the week on the calendar:
just show A or D
At least one of this is fixed now klumy. The WYSIWYG editor doesn't seem to be on the site theme at the moment.

I most certainly hope so. Who on this planet (or others) would want to change
away from SMF?
Is there a problem with downloading themes at the moment (31st December) I get an error message when I try and download the zip file
I have a problem trying to download any file , even attachments in the forums.
Fatal error: Function name must be a string in /home/simple/public_html/custom/themes/Sources/Details.php on line 340
We are aware of the downloading issue and we are working to fix it. Please stand by. :)
Thanks for all your hard work!!!
