This is excellent, and makes it real easy to add more font and size choices.

Thanks!

I am not sure if I am missing a step to get this working.

I downloaded the file to my local computer and then did this.....

ADMIN-->UPLOAD A PACKAGE

I then uploaded this file FontandSizeDropdown_1.1.tar.gz from my local machine

It shows in my admin panel that it is installed.

I made the modification to the "$txt['manual_posting_Change_Font_size']" file and removed the word Font

Is there something I need to do in the install package to make it work? It has not made a change when I go create a topic or reply to a topic.

Thanks

Ken

Hi,

does this mod also work for version 1.1.2? At least in my Installation error's are reported by the Paket Manager in

The mod does not work for german language.

Sorry for late answer,

I've made an update for SMF 1.1.2 on yesterday. Now it works right.

@Ferrika
I installed the current version. The mod as such works, but the two drop-down boxes remain empty....

Post by: tkrug on June 25, 2007, 03:13:56 AM
Hi,

for some reason the content for the post_
-php has not been added correctly (even though the package manager reported no errors:
post.german.php received the line $txt[533] = 'Schriftart'; but not the rest (font_x and size_x).
post.english.php received the font_x and size_x lines but not the $txt[533] line

I checked this with a clean install of 1.1.2

Nice mod

downloaded the - FontAndSizeDropDown_1.2.tar.gz

installed fine with no errors but the size and font are backwards

And also, i'm still using 1.12 but plan on updating to 1.13 soon will this work with 1.13

@ LunyMarcus

Almost all mods (can't think of any that won't but covering myself just in case) you already have installed will continue to work post upgrade to SMF 1.1.3 from SMF 1.1.2 however those whose packages don't include formal compatibility with SMF 1.1.3 won't be able to be uninstalled via the package manager....this mod included.

The mistake was made in the modifications in the Post.english.php file...... just switch them there, and hopefully it will get changed in the Mod files..... ;)

Thx for the replies TrueSatan and spottedhog.

Don't think I'll be uninstalling any mods that I have installed so that won't be a problem.

And I editted the Post.english.php file so everything is fine now.

Thanks again

I've updated the package to include the bug fixes mentioned in previous postings and to add support for SMF 1.1.3. I've tested it on a fresh install of SMF 1.1.3...no problems. Some other mods may conflict with it (colour bar for instance) and members should ensure that in ACP> Server Settings they are using english and not english utf8

@ freworld

I suspect that you have some issue that is making the mod fail (conflict with another mod, language settings etc (this last one being a very likely reason for your problems)) so I doubt that using the version I just posted would help you but you'll lose nothing by trying it so go ahead.

The mod does work properly on a fresh install with no mods in place with which it might conflict and the language settings as they should be.

dats pretty big bug in smf,,
isnt it?????
Title: Re: Font and Size Dropdown 1.1
Post by: TrueSatan on June 28, 2007, 10:36:37 AM
...pretty big problem in your particular configuration perhaps but it's not a bug in SMF as such.

If you still have problems perhaps you would install a fresh database and test forum on that database and see if the problem you have exists there too. If, as I strongly expect, that works properly you can then add your mods to it one by one testing as you go.

If via the above process you can get that forum to work properly with the mods you want in place then you can backup the files from it minus Settings.php and Settings_bak.php in the forum root and put them onto your main/live/production forum thus solving your problem.

The two files I mentioned contain your details of database etc and should not be removed or overwritten.

What other mods do you have installed? This can mean your file is corrupt go replace languages/Post.english.php from a fresh install.

Ok i'm very sorry but completely confused right now.
I just downloaded yesterday, and installed today.
I also have empty boxes. I have the Darkster theme and from what I can see it follows smf pretty well.
So what do I do to get the stuff in the box.....the manual thing ......I'm sorry, I'm really not an idiot just confused as have never done this before.
thanx

Well, we tried everything. The curious this is...even though the boxs look empty they aren't. There is just not label and no text in them
When u click on them there are highlights and it will do the size in the one and the type face in the other.
Now........what is wrong that the text isn't there even though the stuff really is but is hiding? lol
I have no other mods installed.
Sorry to be a pig but............lol...........

For each theme via FTP you can create a new folder called languages and put in post.english.php from your default theme than chmod it,

Each theme is FTP/THEMES/THEME NAME
Title: Re: Font and Size Dropdown 1.1
Post by: sturmkatze on September 03, 2007, 10:44:34 PM
Okay, chmod always confuses me. Mainly because deep in my heart I do not in any way love programming. I only delve in to this to make my forum better. :-0 Seriously, can you walk me thru this? Like exactly what to do?
Title: Re: Font and Size Dropdown 1.1
Post by: shadow82x on September 03, 2007, 10:47:42 PM
once you create the folder and add the file for each one in FTP you can usually right click and choose properties or chmod than make sure it's 777.
Title: Re: Font and Size Dropdown 1.1

Title: Re: Font and Size Dropdown 1.1

Than try chmoding both the folder/post.english.php to 755. Make sure you do this for all themes.
Title: Re: Font and Size Dropdown 1.1
Post by: sturmkatze on September 03, 2007, 11:00:28 PM
what, add the languages folder and post.english file? I really only use one theme... I don't like it, but haven't really found one that works well for me. Ack and too damn hard to modify :-( Anyway... can I just do the one folder and file or at most the default and file?
Title: Re: Font and Size Dropdown 1.1
Post by: sturmkatze on September 03, 2007, 11:02:41 PM
Crap, I just went and looked and it didn't take the chmod. I tried again and it keeps going back. What am I doing wrong there? Never had that prob before.
Title: Re: Font and Size Dropdown 1.1
Post by: shadow82x on September 03, 2007, 11:03:24 PM
Yeah you can just do it for that theme. It appears your missing language files if that happens.

Your error is a variant on the most common error of all those reported on these pages...it tells you that another mod you have installed has already edited the file in question and that you thus need to do a manual installation of this mod. Please read:

Hello,
First Thanks for a great mod. :D

I did find a little error. You have <file name="$themedir/languages/Post.english.php">
<operation>
<search position="replace">
$txt[532] = 'Font Size';
$txt[533] = 'Font Face';
</search>
<add>
$txt['font_face'] = 'Font Size';
$txt['font_arial'] = 'Arial';
$txt['font_times'] = 'Times New Roman';
$txt['font_comic'] = 'Comic Sans MS';
$txt['font_verd'] = 'Verdana';
$txt['font_heatt'] = 'Haettenschweiler';
$txt['font_taho'] = 'Tahoma';
$txt['font_size'] = 'Font Face';
$txt['size_9'] = '9pt';
$txt['size_10'] = '10pt';
$txt['size_11'] = '11pt';
$txt['size_12'] = '12pt';
$txt['size_13'] = '13pt';
$txt['size_14'] = '14pt';
</add>
</operation>
</file>

The "Font Size" and Font Face" are in the wrong spots. So after you install it it says, "Font Size" on the drop down but their are font types and on "Font Face" has font sizes.

Easy fix, just open "post.english.php" and change them around. I think the german one is miss up too.

I was trying to change my file to fix the font size and face error, but it wouldn't open.

I'm not a programmer, is there some editing software I need to open the .gz file?

Then I tried to uninstall the MOD, but it didn't uninstall. (I was going to try a manual install)

It shows "uninstalled" but it is actually working (I think).

I wanted to add some extra fonts, and larger sizes.

Can anyone help me?

I was trying to change my file to fix the font size and face error, but it wouldn't open.

I'm not a programmer, is there some editing software I need to open the .gz file?

Then I tried to uninstall the MOD, but it didn't uninstall. (I was going to try a manual install)

It shows "uninstalled" but it is actually working (I think).

I wanted to add some extra fonts, and larger sizes.

Can anyone help me?

I have read through this thread, but I may have missed the answer, when I tried to "fix it", I proceeded to uninstall it and now it says it is uninstalled, but it is not.

How do I fix this post.english.php file? I don't know how to open it or with what. I have just enough knowledge to mess everything up.

Please help me.

  Solved : I downloaded the file using my ftp (my new Best Friend) and right clicked using Notepad ++ I was able to not only fix the error (font face and size) but also I modified the post.template.php in the default theme folder to ADD MORE FONTS!

It was easy once I knew what programs opened the php file and how to upload it back through my ftp.

HOWEVER, it still "shows" the MOD as not installed (because I tried to uninstall it and start over).

I never reinstalled it because I'm afraid I'll mess it up. Since it works, why fix something that is not broke though right?

If anyone thinks I should correct this (you technical geniuses) let me know.

Thanks TEA

Thanks for a great mod!
I have a question...

I want to modify it so that every entry in the Font Face menu is acctually written in its own font...

Like this:

Courier
Arial
Arial Black
etc..

So the users will se what the acctual font will look like when they choose it.
Is that possible?
It would be great to do that with the color as well.

Change both the post.english.php and the post.template.php in your themes & languages directories

another thing, i tried to add more sizes in the same post.english.php file by copying and changing the size number and it only showed up to 14 just whats in the default package. i read in the beginning of this thread that this will make it easy to add more sizes and more fonts style but could find anywhere how it can be done. anyone added more sizes and more fonts please let us know how. thanks in advance.

If I just add new entries in the Post.template.php file, and in the Post.english.php file, that makes the fonts available? Do I have to install the fonts anywhere else?

Thanks!

I have the same question as Matthew. I can see in the .php files where one can add a font but which fonts can you add? Do you need to have them installed somewhere? Is there a set of ''reserved words" used for font names?

For example, if I wanted to install the font Georgia, what would I put in the .php file for names and do I have to install that font somewhere?

The same with font size. How can you get one larger than 14 points?

Change both the post.english.php and the post.template.php in your themes & languages directories

You can add ANY font installed in your PC's font file. I added Hebrew, Greek, and some ancient languages.
I also changed the font sizes to 8pt., 12pt. 18pt, & 24 pt.

Just make sure the font is "Installed on Windows" on your PC and when you change the .php files it should work. Worked for me.

Good luck

Thanks for the speedy answer. What I am mostly concerned about is the wording. For example:

['font_verd'] = 'Verdana';

Can this word be anything you want it to be?

The word in red? No I think not. It's a txt string (it calls the words after it), so unless you go through all the files this mod edited and change the string everywhere it occurred then you cannot change it. HOWEVER, the 'Verdana' can be changed, because it is what is displayed when that string is called upon inside a file :D

Thank you much!!! I'll try it later today and let you know what happened! I am assuming I can also remove a font that I don't like. Interesting thing, that the Haettenschweiler font is not anywhere on my computer.

It doesn't really make sense to me that it would need to be installed because the module doesn't access my computer for those fonts. I would love to know where they DO come from though.

Theres a font folder in the Themes>Default folder somewhere. I assume that's it. If you find how to add fonts there, let me know, I'd love to customise it :D

There is a font folder but it doesn't have anything in it that's installed in the font file. I don't think I'm qualified to figure this one out. I just installed the program 3 days ago. Today is day 4. I really love this software, I just need to dig into it more.

I wonder if we should ask on a different board?

Actually, I did find that strange font in my windows folder. I don't think I have it installed but it's in my fonts folder.

I did a google search to see what fonts came with windows so I can pick from that list. It's pretty slim so I'm just going to pick a few that are on all the windows list. I hope it works okay!!

Thanks for asking the question on the other board.

@Kat-2

Attached the repaired files. Please make a backup of this files, before you upload them.

The problem was the missing Post.english.php. I don't know, why it is not in the original on your space. If you'll have some problems after uploading it without the ~, rename the file again to post.english.php~.

First off, thank you Ferrika for trying to help me.

Sigh. Okay, I replaced all of the files.

Now, when I first installed this mod I go NO errors, but it was blank.
I am posting an img of that.

So, when I went to uninstall it, I did so, yet it was NOT uninstalled.

Tonight I replaced the files. I still had the 2 blanks.
I reinstalled the mod, and you will see in the 2nd img what I have ended up with.
Not only are there 2 Font Face, and 2 Font Size, they are backwards.

ALL I want to do is get the darn thing fixed, or off my forum...

I have been trying to do this going on a week...daily.

Anyone have a clue?

Okay..this is starting to drive me nuts. I wish I had never touched this mod.

No matter what I do..and I am doing everything Ferrika has asked me to do, I CANNOT get this mod off of my forum.

Ferrika you seem to think it is my forum, and maybe so, but, the forum is less than a month old..and I have only installed 3 mods.

The embed video
The Spoiler
The URL

Not a problem at all.

I replaced the files as you said this evening..and I am attaching what I get now.

I try go to uninstall..and before I even get to the ERRORS it says..

QuoteSome of the files the package manager needs to modify are not writable. This needs to be changed by logging into FTP and using it to chmod or create the files and folders. Your FTP information may be temporarily cached for proper operation of the package manager.

I haver modified until I have no clue what to modify anymore.

Then if I move forward to try to uninstall..these are my errors..

Quote./Themes/default/Help.template.php     Test failed

Quote./Themes/default/languages/Manual.english.php Test failed

Quote./Themes/default/languages/Post.english.php Test failed

I have been working on this daily for a week, and I am so frustrated.
I need help. :( :( >:(

@Kat-2

Please replace the files, I've attached at the post before to your Webspace and don't try to install this Mod again. I don't know, what the Mods, you've installed before are changing at this files, but my Mod dosn't work with them.

@weightman

my Mod don't change anything in the Profile.tmplate.php. Nay be, you have installed some Mod that needs the $txt[532] and [533], this are variables, that will deleted with my mod. Thus it can't work at your Forum.

Cool, I see it. Its a conflict with the signature BBC code bar mod which calls the BBC posting buttons in the forum profile information window. I just added the $txt[532] and [533] strings back in to the post.english.php file so they are there when that mod calls them.

Thanks

The Mod is NOT installed. I replaced the files. I still show 1 blank font face and font size.
So, replacing the files..did not fix it, though it did get rid of 2 of them.

I told what other mods I have installed.

Those were installed prior to the font one.

So..what now?

Okay, it is fixed. Was a simple matter of editing the post.template.php file manually, which a friend quickly did for me.

:P Looks like the SMF team forgot something: there's no option anywhere in the 1.1.4 sources OR this mod for BBC font color = "White"

D'oh! And as they're running 2.0 beta 3 here, it looks like it's not in SMF 2 either. D'oh, a deer, a female deer.... ;)

Does anyone know if it's somewhat safe to use the (currently unused) $txt[278] string so that I can add the other white meat? Yeah, I know I can always change the BBC by hand, but that's the whole POINT of this mod: doing it simply with a drop-down. I like simple, it keeps the members happy. Several of our themes are quite a bit darker than 'default', so white would be nice. It's almost invisible above (I run 'default' here on simplemachines).

edit: and I see 'fuchsia' and 'silver' are also missing, and 'pink' is one of the old Netscape additions.
When I manually edit in 'fuchsia' into the BBC in a post the displayed color is black. :o

quote: "HTML recognizes the following 16 color names: aqua, black, blue, fuchsia, gray, green, lime, maroon, navy, olive, purple, red, silver, teal, white, and yellow."

I keep getting errors myself.

I tried uploading the files that were attached but that just created a slew of new font, name, id, and size errors.

So I uploaded the original files and now I cannot see the font size and type headings or selections in the drop down boxes.

Here is what my file looks like-

Ok, I uninstalled tyhe mod, got the warning, but did it anyway.

After that, I edited the post.english.php files, removing the references to the font size and face.

Now I am still getting errors-

8: Undefined offset: 533
File: /home/xxxxx/public_html/forums/Themes/default/languages/Post.english.php (main sub template - eval?)
Line: 813

and

8: Undefined index: size_14
File: /home/xxxxx/public_html/forums/Themes/default/languages/Post.english.php (main sub template - eval?)
Line: 866

This is very frustrating.

What else needs to be modified so I can stop the enormous amount of errors?

File attached is an actual fix for English.

Font size| Font face mix up. I don't know why this hasn't been done yet, >:(
but I did it.  O:)

By the way, in any other language letters don't show. I guess people shall have to modify it themselves.

hi. will the 'package' work on 1.1.5? or do i have to do it manually?

also, i noticed that the fonts size are posted as #pt #pt etc.. is there a way i can add just number? because i wanted to set the limit to 12pt (3) or less and there are some user on our forum that uses font=6 (which makes it really biiiiig....... and annoying :/

*sigh*

I just installed this mod, and it uninstalled almost every mod I have, filling my errorlog with pages of errors.

Im now reinstalling all the mods, and often have to revert to a backup before the mod was installed, as I get parse errors. I installed 5 mods and manually added code today, thats why Im doing it this way.
Even using a backup before that mod was installed isnt reinstalling my manual edits :-\

I shouldve just added these two options myself instead of using this mod.
I have never come across this type of problem before.

Good its worked for others, but Im gonna say to the new...
Use at your own risk!!

And if not, will it do in the future?

Mod installed fine with no test fails, however I am getting this error in my log:

8: Undefined offset: 533
File: /home//public_html/Themes/default/languages/Post.english.php (main sub template - eval?)
Line: 1026

It happens with both versions of the mod (one on the mod page, and the one that ameo posted).

Any ideas?

also, i noticed that the fonts size are posted as #pt #pt etc.. is there a way i can add just number? because i wanted to set the limit to 12pt (3) or less and there are some user on our forum that uses font=6 (which makes it really biiiiig....... and annoying :/

pinoypetfinder, I cannot help you with the your second question about the 'font sizes' but I can tell you I just downloaded this via the Package manager and I am using 1.1.5 Babylon and it installed immediately - full English language forum though, if that is any help to you :) The download was missing the files for UTF-8 English and all the other languages and since I didn't need those I continued. I'm not 100% sure what the UTF-8 English is all about but the forum is still intact :)

In ./Themes/default/languages/Post.english.php

$txt['font_face'] = 'Font Size';

Replace with:
$txt['font_face'] = 'Font Face';

And

$txt['font_size'] = 'Font Face';

Replace with:
$txt['font_size'] = 'Font Size';

This should solve your problem. ;)

Works great on smf 1.1.6

Also you need to edit the post.template modification for the 12pt

I have a great problem, not about this mod but relevant...

None of the fonts work in my smf... Arial, Comic Sans,... None of them :S

It appears like this when i change a text's font (ignore that *) :

[fon*t=arial]example[/font]

How can i fix this ?

There is a fault with the installation of the $txt[] strings for this mod. It replaces the following $txt[] strings with it's own. But those $txt[] are still required by the Post.template.php to define the description text for the size and face buttons.

Themes/default/langauges/Post.english.php
Add back in:
$txt[532] = 'Font Size';
$txt[533] = 'Font Face';

So in the installation process it should actually add these to the Modifications.{language}.php file or add them to the Post.{langauge}.php without touching the current $txt[] strings.

Hello,
First Thanks for a great mod. :D

I did find a little error. You have <file name="$themedir/languages/Post.english.php">
<operation>
<search position="replace">
$txt[532] = 'Font Size';
$txt[533] = 'Font Face';
</search>
<add>
$txt['font_face'] = 'Font Size';
$txt['font_arial'] = 'Arial';
$txt['font_times'] = 'Times New Roman';
$txt['font_comic'] = 'Comic Sans MS';
$txt['font_verd'] = 'Verdana';
$txt['font_heatt'] = 'Haettenschweiler';
$txt['font_taho'] = 'Tahoma';
$txt['font_size'] = 'Font Face';
$txt['size_9'] = '9pt';
$txt['size_10'] = '10pt';
$txt['size_11'] = '11pt';
$txt['size_12'] = '12pt';
$txt['size_13'] = '13pt';
$txt['size_14'] = '14pt';
</add>
</operation>
</file>

The "Font Size" and Font Face" are in the wrong spots. So after you install it it says, "Font Size" on the drop down but their are font types and on "Font Face" has font sizes.

Easy fix, just open "post.english.php" and change them around. I think the german one is miss up too.

I don't have lines 532 and 533 in my file but I did see where Font size and Font face were wrong so I tried to switch them only it didn't do anything.
My drop down boxed are still reversed.

Hi there, please see this thread for the background on my error - http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=293133

What I want to know is what I need to do with my custom theme's display.template.php file to stop the forum generating those errors.

Please let me know if the details from my original thread don't make sense.

BTW I've re-added

$txt[532] = 'Font Size';
$txt[533] = 'Font Face';

back to my post.english.php file.

Firstly Hi Everyone, this is my first post and already I'm full of questions.

My Forum has been running now for a couple of years and I have decided to add my first ever mod today. (As you can tell I'm a complete novice) Thank you for this mod it works great and gives my forum something that I've always wanted. Although it works fine it now leads to two other issues:
I can't find the area where I need to add additional Fonts and Sizes, so can anybody direct me there please.
The other question I have is, when I use the Colour, Font and Size options the TAGS appear at each end of the message, is there anyway of hiding the tags so that they dont appear??

Kind regards
Baldy

I just noticed your suggestion. I updated the post.english.php file although we never noticed any issue.

But I also think there are more problems with this MOD. http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=237990.0

As soon as someone clicks on "Posting" on help section, the error log shows many error messages from help.template.php. I disabled EVAL to figure this out. I can just delete any code from this MOD in help.template.php and all is good. However, there has to be a reason for MOD designer for all this!

Any suggestion, please?

You just have to open that two files and add the text before the "?>" without the ""

That means you have a mod that already alters a position this mod is looking for in that template.
You will have to manually edit that template.

How can i get this mod working with Enhanced Quick Reply 2.0?

This would be good to know, but I have some other questions that are killin me if anybody has any more knowledge about this than I do which wouldn't take too much.

How does this mod work. I have read this whole thread and have it now installed error free. Changing the fonts doesn't... uh... change the fonts. I can pick anything and the font is the same which figures if the code doesn't answer to any of my actual font info. The size function does work BTW. I've read here that the client machine determines what fonts can be used, but how can that be. Does it upload the font file to the server? (I'm pretty sure it doesn't :)) If not then that font can only be displayed on the posters machine. What about everybody else's? If it uses the server fonts, which ones. SMF or the host machine? How does it know the different ways that Linux and Windows handle fonts? Where is it getting it's font information from.

I still have not seen a coherent explanation (unless I missed it) on how to add fonts or where from though a few excellent questions have been asked. Such as: how to determine the naming convention for the font name itself, not the menu display name. Actually the stock fontface BBC tool didn't do anything either except set the tags in the post with verdana as the font so maybe there's some other issue with my server, which is my own machine BTW.

I've been twiddling with this for a couple hours and gotten nowhere. My eyes hurt :'( If anybody has any ideas that would be just fabulous.
Thanks.

I must really be missin something here. Even here, in these boards, the fontface dropdown gives me only the option to choose courier. On mine it gives me the options to choose the few fonts the mod adds to the code, but selecting any of them make no changes. The font is the same regardless of what I choose and I just don't know what to do to get this moving.

I was trying to install 'FontAndSize DropDown_1.3.zip', which I had assumed was an update on _1.2 I reckon that this mod is broken :(

I modded this mod  :)
It now contains all browser safe fonts (Arial, Arial Black, Comic Sans, Courier New, Georgia, Impact, Lucida Console, Lucida Sans, Paltino, Tahoma, Times New Roman, Trebuchet, Verdana) with fallback option to the generic font type, so "Arial" becomes "Arial, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif".

Have Fun
