I currently have the viewing of member profiles for guests disabled on one of my forums. Because SMF provides links to member profiles regardless of whether or not the membergroup or guest can view them, Google is indexing each and every member profile on my forum as a login page.
<meta name="robots" content="noindex" /> should be added to the profile page when viewed by those who are denied the permission of seeing the profiles of forum members.
I'd like to follow up by asking for input on a similar finding of my own.
I noticed that the googlebots crawled the profile of one of my members...showing all of the private, behind-the-scenes information on one page: i.e. IP address, gender, city and state location...
I did not enter "robots" "no index" into the meta tags because I want draw traffic to the site and because I don't understand no index to keep the bot from indexing all content...I also didn't expect SMF to be set up to give out the user's profile page.
The question is this:
How does one just block out the profile pages in SMF?
Appreciate your thoughts.
