Title: @A.M.A. / Arabic language question
Post by: andrea on August 21, 2004, 05:26:05 AM
Hi A.M.A

I upgraded my Aquamania themes to RC1 and made the buttons also in arabic language (with your kind help).

Question: What precisely is needed such that the theme can be run with arabic language? Is it enough to post the buttons gif's only or is it also necessary to add some language file? Are the RTL control, scrollbar left etc. controlled by the already existing language files which are in the "default" theme or do I have to include some additional technical files into my theme directory?

Hi, Andrea

You need to first copy the 'Arabic' language files to the default language folder .. this will make the forum readable with let say 70% acceptable look..

to make it a perfect RTL oriented you need to install the 'Arabic theme' .. it is mainly a copy of the original one but with modifications of the hard-coded directions tags .. what I did is reversed all the RIGHT <td> and <div> to LEFT and of course the same is done with "LEFT".

I'd talked with 'bostasp' about using a variable instead of those "RIGHTs" and "LEFTs" .. so that variable will hold the "right" or "left" string and place it in regards to the language being in use .. but I guess this will add extra code to the template system and may even make it slow.

So do I understand right that my theme files will need changes to work with an RTL language such as arabic?

P.S.

I need 2 more strings be translated to arabic:

"delete selected" -> ???

"new" -> ???  #text on the new icon marking new posts

sorry Andrea I've missed your post

as I said you theme will look right 70% without altering any file .. but if you want to make it look 100% suitable for RTL reading, you need to make the changes I mentioned above .. or simply copy my Arabic theme add your css and buttons .. that is if you used the default theme without any modifications.

delete selected = حذف التعليم
new = جديد
