The default theme should be as well.

Bontray:  there has been much discussion as of late as to the benefits of using a mostly CSS/div based layout versus tables.  The developers of SMF are aware of the concern and may or may not factor that in to the next version of SMF.  You'll have to wait and see.  ;)

*hint: view the page source of the default SMF theme here*
Its not FULL DIV/CSS, but it is not completely table based, either.

Please note, anything said herein is MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION, not that of the SMF Team's.

And in all honesty, if theres an area where tabular data is shown, why not use a table?  That *is* what they were intended for.  They expanded in use as a positioning element, perhaps when they should not have.

I think there is too much importance placed on 'getting away from tables' these days.  I know its the whole semantical coding thing but if you're displaying tabular data, <div> is no longer semantical for that purpose.  The code should 'make sense,' IMO.  It doesn't make sense to use a tag for other than its intended purpose.  Yes, that includes <table>

I just think theres too much emphasis put on things that, quite frankly, don't even really matter, IMO.  Most of any given forum's members could care less how the output of the page works, so long as it outputs and correctly.  Design is important, yes, but content is doubly, if not moreso, important.

As an additional note, the theme here is still a work in progress. Places where tables don't make sense will eventually be replaced. Good and usable design is a process, not an overnight thing.
