Default Membergroup on Registration - Modification for SMF
version 1.0
© 2007, Rudolf Martincsek
*****************************************************
Allows you to set the default membergroup on registration. Registered users will be part of the selected group instead of the "Regular Membergroups".
You can find the setting in Admin->Registration->Settings tab.
looks like a good mod i might use it!
I am thinking of tring this mod as well
:D
Thank you oh so much, I have been waiting for this type of mod! Now I can register new users automatically into my Newletter Group! Much easier than adding them all when they join.
Thanks a Bunch!
;D
Thanks a lot. i really think this is a brilliant effort and modification :D
Thanks again for your work, Rudolf.
cheers!
Thanks great mod. :P
I'm looking for something that I can use to make another mailing list, as my membership has now reached a size that's pushing the limits of the server.
Will this mod place new members into a new group automatically, from the day that it's installed?
I really need something that will accomplish that, and leave the current members in the groups that they're currently in.
I've tried creating a new group called "members2".. but found that each person needs to be moved manually, one by one.
I hope that someone will have an answer for my dilemma.
Thanks for any & all help and/or suggestions you may have.
This mod affects only new registrations, existing members are not changed.
Thank you so much... that's just what I needed.. and what I needed to know!
I am not sure if this is the right place for this question...please let me know.
But what I am working in is a script that will place new members into groups based on their email domain. I have been looking at your mod and was wondering where exactly the information is inserted into the db. Is it in registration.php, subs-members.php, or manage-registration.php?
I am only concerned right now with new registrants so I am leaning toward registration.php.
Thanks for any help.
Great mod as well. :D
It's Subs-Members.php the function registerMember()
Thanks alot :)
nice one work like a charm
Nice modification, Thanks.
Tried installing mod on SMF 114. Problems seeing new mod in Admin -> Registration -> Settings tab. Nothing appears to set default membergroup. System shows mod installed with no problems. Any help?

try the version_emulate trick by adding ;version_emulate=1.1.3 to the end of the URL when they go to the package manager
it works for me
This is EXACTLY what I am looking for,
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeese can you update this script to work on 2.0 beta 3
Thanks
i have a problem, i need to use the no posting lisks mod for new users until they reach a certain level of msgs in smf
someone was saying they use this mod along with no link posting mod
so when someone registers theyre automaticly in the membergroup who are not allowed to post links.
the problem is when i chose to have the option "This group is based off posts:" in the membergoups section settings, it cannot be selected from the drop down menu in Registration > Settings
how can i make this work?
could someone help?
ok...theres a serious problem with this forum
i posted for help on 2 different topics and none have been reply
and its been weeks for the other topic, 3 days for this topic
if youre not gonna help just say it so i wont waste my time on this forum, or even on this mod!
ill just uninstall the mod and look for something better...cause obviously no ones gonna help me with this!
have fun with whatever youre doing

Real life is what I'm doing. And yes, I'm trying to have fun with it, but it's difficult.
As for your question, post based groups can't be set as default because, well, they are based on posts. A post based group is not something you set.
so we cant make a user not post links until he/she reaches a certain post count?
is it possible anyway?
You can set up a user group that denies the permission to post links and set it as default.
For this you would need to activate the "Enable the option to deny permissions" in the permission settings.
Swedish translation:
//-Default Membergroup on Registration MOD- START
$txt['admin_register_group1'] = 'Sekondär medlemsgrupp;
$txt['admin_register_group1_desc'] = 'Den sekondära medlemsgruppen nya medlemar kommer tillhöra.';
//-Default Membergroup on Registration MOD- END

it didnt work the way i needed...it blocks the new registered members from posting links (which theyre part of the new membergroup with denied permission on registration) and after a certain post count, member becomes part of the next level membergroup, like i wanted to. the problem is, after reaching the next level membergroup, the member is also still in the membergroup with denied permission. so the next level membergroup becomes useless
this is a lil complicated, i guess smf just needs the option to select which membergroups(with "off posts" option) a new member will be in on registration
Could be done for smf 2.0 ?
thx
Before i try it and mess up our forum, does anybody know if this works properly with 1.1.5?

Seems to be working fine for me. Just do as they mentioned on the previous page and set your package manager to emulate 1.1.3 first, though, just in case.
Will this work whit 2.x?
And if not, will it do in the future?

Big fat bump.
I had this mod installed on my forum when I first set it up. I'm now using 2.0 and this mod is sorely missed.
Yes, I will upgrade the mod some time in the future.

Oke! :D Would be great!
thank you!

Any update on this, Rudolf? I tried to update it myself, thought I had it, but ran into some problem I couldn't figure out. So I'm reliant on you.
Thanks!
I do not mean to be a noob, but when I use the drop down menu I only get "Global Moderator" option and no others. I also have several membergroups set up. Also what is the secondary member used for?
Thanks
Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks
Secondary membergroup is used for... secondary (additional) membergroups ... I'm not sure what else to say about that?

So I can not put a member into a specific group with out setting post limits. I want to have a member put in a group on registraion, then be moved based on monetary donations.
Thanks

Sure, this mod will let you do that - at least, it'll let you do the default on registration part. Up to you beyond that.
Can you change who the default is? Only options to choose from are "No Primary Membergroup" or "Global Moderator"
Thanks
still wandering if their is a way to get the default membergroup to be something other than the above post?
If the mod is properly installed (in 1.1.x) it should give you the option of any of your groups...
I had no errors while applying mod. That is why I do not understand.
Thanks
Still having same issue. Any help would be great..
Thanks
EDIT- I was able to get it to work correctly on the main forum, but the forum that is sharing the main forums db will not show the additional membergroups.
Still needing help as it is difficult keeping up with changing membergroups for this forum.
Thanks
If you can't figure it out and you've gone through the installation line-by-line, just use a forced version. If you go into Registration.php you can find the array the inputs details of a registratoin and force a usergroup number into it.
Great! I will look into this today
thanks
I checked and tried several code changes in the manageregistration.php file, but no success. can you advise further as I really would like to get this to work.
Is having the databases shared causing the issue?
Thanks
Default Membergroup on Registration - Installation Instructions for 2.0 RC1
Is it safe to use since it can be selected from the drop down box in the mod section.
Thanks
Where do you see install instructions for 2.0? This mod is compatible with 1.1 only.

I still can not get the second forum to register members into membergroup upon reg.
Thanks
In Subs-Members.php, look for:
'additional_groups' =>
Sorry, I told you the wrong file before.
this is the code I have for the mod....
//-Default Membergroup on Registration MOD- Start
if (isset($regOptions['additionalGroup']) && $regOptions['additionalGroup'] != 1 && !in_array($regOptions['additionalGroup'], $unassignableGroups))
$regOptions['register_vars']['additionalGroups'] = $regOptions['additionalGroup'];
//-Default Membergroup on Registration MOD- End
where would I insert..
thanks
No, what I'm telling you has nothing to do with the mod. This is if you want to manually force the group. Give me a copy of your Subs-Members.php and I'll take a look if you want me to.
Here it is- I try to look into most of my issues before asking, but some I have no clue about....
Thanks

OK my apologies, my fault. My instructions were based on 2.0, so I didn't realize the name of additionalGroups had changed.
In your code, if you want it to be an additional group, find:
'additionalGroups' => "''",
Change it to:
'additionalGroups' => 1,
Where 1 should be changed to whatever the group # is you want.
If you want it to be a main group, I'll have to look through the code a bit more. It doesn't seem to be defined right there along with the rest of the RegOptions.

No Problem!!!
I unfortunatley would like it to be the main group. I do not mind adding their secondary group when they achieve it.
Thanks agin for checking into to this.....

drhamad-
Were you able to look into this any further? I have been unsuccessful in find this either...
Thanks
Were you able to look into this yet :D
Thanks
Where do I find the settings for this mod?
i have same problem on 2.0 rc1.2
it wont shoiw up on members > registration > Setting
how i get it up?
I've installed this and reinstalled it, tried changing the emulator version, everything, and it still won't show up. Is there something else I need to do? I also manually chmoded all the required files, still nothing happened though. It won't show up under Admin -> Registration -> Settings.
Hello, are you planning in the near future arrangements for SMF version 2.0 RC5?
it's already compatible
O, added that there are some things matter. To find and edit, but when there are no lines in which to add other lines is not good
// Generate a sample registration image.
It is used for installing the RC5, but if it works, I doubt.
Line
// Generate a sample registration image.
is found either in the original file ManageRegistration.php
And if it works, I do not know where to add
My apologies I thought i linked to the 2.0 version in my last post http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1804
Spoogs this modification make not the same thing ... ;)
I have tried in the past to get this to work on two different boards sharing the same data base.
Spoogs- would you be interested in looking at my file and see why I only get (no primary membergroups) & (Global Moderator) as my only two options for default membergroup placing?
Thanks.
It's telling me the following...
Default membergroup
The ID of the membergroup that all new members should be assigned to upon registration.
What is the ID of the membergroup?

Perhaps you could install this mod (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2899) and then go to Admin->Members->Membergroups->Edit Membergroups?
Alternatively, you could also go to Admin->Members->Membergroups->Edit Membergroups, click on a membergroup name, and then look carefully at the URL.
Now why didn't I think of that... :)
Thanks I will give it a try.
This mod works with 2.0.7 Great companion for http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1804 as it requires the member id to work properly this linked mod also works on 2.0.7.
