Hi guys..... suddenly got this error today and cant access the forum nor the admin area. Its been running fine for months and no mods have been recently been installed nor any files changed.
any ideas as to what would cause this ..... appreciate any pointers...
i tried replacing the index file (From a back up) as mentioned in a past post with similiar prob but made no diff...
on a side note...other copies of smf are running fine on same server with other clients....
url to forum is http://triciaonline.com/index.php

Looks like your boards table in your database is corrupt or empty.
Access your database with phpmyadmin and try to repair it. If you can't find it then hopefully you have a backup of your database. Restore only that one table.
thank you very much :) i went and did as u said.... the table had data in it..so choose to repair and all seems fine again... !!
tell me...wat kind of thing causes this to happen? is it sumtin i can prevent by doing some maintenence ?
again thanks alot
Yes automatic maintenance should take care of this. Only that maintenance happens every 7 days as default, so you had to chose between waiting for it or doing manually.
The table can get corrupt because of various reasons, read/write errors in the mysql process and such.
seems i spoke too soon !!
i went and did as u said.... the table had data in it..so choose to repair and as i said all seemed to work..
i was able to see the index page again...clicked show new posts and got the error again...!! tried to repair again but without luck.....
when i go in via myphpadmin i can see smf_boards has all the forums that were there previously....
any ideas? damn !
Go in your Admin - Maintenance -> Find and repair errors.
i cant get to admin om the smf software... its giving me that error... it "seemed" to repair it the first time i ran rapair on that table...i was able to see index...thought all was well.... then clicked the show posts and received the error again.... now the repair via myphpadmin does not seem to have an effect...
i have a mysqlbackup from yesterday..... can i drop wats there now in the smf_boards table and try insert the backup smf table structure?
if u would be willing i can give u access to have a look ure self in case im doing sumtin stupid?
send me the details in a pm
thank u... Very much appreciated. ill pm them now....
It should work now.
thank u soo much...i owe ya big time :)
i noticed all the duplicated posts from the rss feed poster mod ...so im guessing that was prolly the underlying problem.?
again..thanks :)
@Rudolf: What did you do to fix the issue? Repair the database tables from phpMyAdmin?
tones_ie, if it's related to the rss mod, post in the mod's topic for additional help. If it's a common problem, the answer might already be posted there :)
Hay greyknight17,
i cant say either way for sure if its related to the rss feed poster... as for repairing the table...i had already tried this a couple of times to no avail...
As for how Rudolf fixed it, im not 100% sure as its a lil above my pay grade :) but he did say that the error was caused by the fact that there was a board that had a parent board specified that didn't exist.

Small update......might be usefull to others :)
I initially set up the feed poster to grab m/soft bullitens for the forum...they were getting posted into a m/soft related forum i had made....
the second admin had a clean up and was re-organising the forums that were not getting used and combining them into other sections....
I think the problem started because the initial board that the feed poster was posting in was moved and renamed...
we didnt notice this at first as the bulletins only come out every few weeks...and the forum seemed to be running as normal...
Until that is, when the feed poster had a bulletin to post...it had no where to put it... or the board that was specified didnt excist anymore....
so im guessing it was user error on our part and not a problem with the mod per say.
tones_ie,
Just wanted to pass on thanks to you posting back on the problem to your error on your smf.
Had the same with one of mine, and doing a google search, brought me to your post.
I dropped the rss poster links I had set up, and the posts it had tried to make, in a forum that I had deleted, within phpmyadmin.
It all ran ok after that. Just wanted to pass on thanks for coming back with the solution. It probably saved me hours knowing the cause. Thanks. You were 100% correct, and was the rss posting to a non-existant category (that had been deleted).
Thanks ;)
Thats kewll...... glad my post pointed u in the right direction. I kinda figured that with the amount of smf users there are that i wouldnt be the only one that had this prob....
Rudolf,
I was told to bump this topic because I'm having the same issue. I haven't any changes to my system in well over four months, and the database looks to be in great shape.
I don't remember anything about the issue. However if you PM me with info to access your forum I can take a look.
ok i am intersted in the fix as i am having the exact issues i know where the error is
we are using feedposter rss to suck in a Yahoo groups RSS feeds my main admin she deleted the board before turning off feed poster i have ran repair several time it makes salvage board with the exact same message 50+ times i have tryed to do a repain in phpadmin with no luck i think this is effecting my sql server performance it take a long time for page loads no too
I would like help please let me know what i need to do i greatly appericate it
please open a new thread, this thread belongs to someone else and is marked solved so it will be ignored by staff. also please do not bump threads that are several years old.
