Otsikko: CSS edits show in Firefox but not IE
Kirjoitti: DanV - kesäkuu 27, 2007, 01:55:10 AP
Example: Edited the font size and the changes show in Firefox but not IE.

Is there a simple solution to this?

In IE do a forced refresh. Hold down CTRL and press F5.

No, that's not working.

Let me ask you, KGIII or anyone else:

About a year ago I encountered this difficulty while working on a website and trying to get it to show exactly the same on different browsers.

I had success in doing so but basically because I could work on the page without it being online, i.e. a file on my drive.

Is there a way to do this with the forum? It would save a lot of time not having to go endlessly back and forth with ftp and checking the online site itself to see the results - not to mention coming on this forum with endless questions. I could work on it and then ftp it when resolved.

Thank You

I use Ultraedit (has FTP capability built in, so you can edit the file locally and upload it when you save (automatically)

I also use ftp voyager which detects when you have saved a copy of the editted file and asks you if you want to upload the changed copy...

As for why this is happening, remember IE and FF interpret the CSS standards in different ways (for example, IE ignores the !important; tag) and, as far as I cna tell, they even interpret what dimensions are (margin 10px; will display differently on FF and IE)

Tell me about it! I had worked on several editions previously strictly from IE then one day I looked at their display in Firefox. Yikes! Don't ever want to go through that reworking the pages business again. Nonetheless, it got me tighter with the coding standards so the lesson was worth it.

I will check into Ultraedit and Voyager to see what you're referring to. I'm also going to be looking at some of the "more css" themes that SMF provides.

By the way, do you or anyone else know which of the themes is the most geared to this? Maybe if I went with the most "bare bones" theme (watch, someone will now name a new theme with that  :) ) then I could have a simpler approach.

Thank You

I will add that I use XAMPP to have a local install under Windows and this enables me to do a lot of testing and editing on a live server before bringing it out into public. (It saves me much embarrassment too.)
