SMFtg
with this program (for Windows) you can:
- modify any elements in the main cascading style sheet (style.css).
- five predefined index layouts.
- view or save changes.
- works with SMF 1.0 - 1.0.5

wow that's very handy!
Awesome! Thanks.
How about a MAC version?
Very good! Did you program that yourself..?
cool, thnx
This is great, it's gonna help me a lot.
Shukran Jazeelan ;)
Is there any way to have my users be able to choose the colors they want without me having to provide numerous themes? With all the changes I am doing to the layout, it would be endlessly aggravating to have to do the minimalistic changes across all the different files.
marcnyc:
sorry cant do that

Thanks a lot all :)
Actually, a theme could be made to do what revILLution is asking for... using theme options and/or settings. It just wouldn't make as efficient use of style.css :(.

What if they made a little command sequence to copy and rename like blue.css, red.css etc. to style.css? Of course you still have to update each css as needed.
Useful.
I get an Error #53 when I try to view a template? Says file not found, even tho I saved it to the Ready folder and can open it with an editor.
woww~ this is uber!!! thank you
what if you made it web-based instead of software based so that every user on every OS can use it?
eXaulz:
Glad you find it of use.
hebxi1:
Please browse to: (SMFtg\Sample-Temp\xxView) and check if these files are missing: index.html , indexDEF.html .. btw are you using IE!
Pixy Polly:
You are welcome.
marcnyc:
Hard for me to do it.
too bad :(
Mac's too nice, fast, smart and beautiful to go back to slow buggy PCs ;-)
Files are there ... was able to open them directly using FireFox. I have IE on my PC for double checking web work, but it's not default.
The program looks for IE either in C or D driver under this folder ( :\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe) I know it is a bit restrictive .. may be make the browser a user defined in next version .. but for now am afraid you have to view them manually.

If you execute "start" with the argument "http://www.google.com", the default browser will come up.
So, why not try using "start" with "fille://c:\blah.html"?

another reason to hate VB :)
Your method can be done through using the shell API , but am too lazy .. so I've used the one built-in VB which requires a full path ..

Great Job-thanks for all the work on this.
very useful, thanks ;)
maybe for some update so it should be possible to import some style.css and index.template.php so that you can edit it very simple with this editor !! ???
Sorry .. too complicated, never meant to be like this.
A Java version would be your best bet for Cross OS Compatability, but I doubt hes willing to do all that work.
If it dont work on a mac, get a PC.
Very nice man... Comes in handy...
RCHawaii, if this program was for MAC only and not PC, would you buy a MAC?
I like the program
thanx a lot
Thanks all .. glad you have find it of use.

That's probably why I was having trouble with it, mine's located on the E drive instead... :-\
Sorry to raise a old topic but the download of this program contains a backdoor virus/trojan type thing called BackDoor.Iroffer.3.AR according to AVG 7
Could that be a mis-report?
I'm using NAV 2005 Full, Ad-aware, Pro Zome Alarm - none of them have reported any odd behaviour from the DL or the files when executed.
Please try using any online scan to see that the file is clear. I've the latest NAV on my PC .. so I think it must be a false alarm.
I have used 'scan spyware' as it claims it can find and remove your mentioned BackDoor.Iroffer but it did not find anything.
I re-downloaded the file and ignored AVG screaming at me and ran trend micros` house call with no warnings so it must be a false alarm with AVG, thanks :)
thi EXE files might be wrong.
after the installation I have problems launching it because of missing .dll
Gabriele
What version of Windows are you using and what was the missing DLL?
Thanks a lot!!!
Great :)
Would this be updated to have version 1.0.3 for it? This is such a great utility as I downloaded it yesterday and tried it out, but the forum file it has is 1.0 (and perhaps that isn't a big deal as I didnt really fully read everything it is changing, but still think an update would be good).
Again, great great utility for SMF. (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fbestgarden.net%2Fsmilies%2Fthumb.gif&hash=fef4d25799562c6654bc97f1e645bdea20079cd9)
It will work fine with 1.0.3
Yeah, I figured it would work fine, but again an update would be nice, so would this be updated to have version 1.0.3 for it at some point?
Themes for 1.0 work for 1.0.3, but to have 1.0 at the bottom for the utility is going to potentially confuse people who download it, so it would be nice to update it for that reason alone. At least, editing the very first post to note that it works for 1.0.3 would be a good idea.
Thanks for your consideration.
Thanks for noting that ..I've edited the first post as you suggested.
I'll try to update the version numbers though they will not effect the resulting index.template.php nor the style.css
Thanks for doing that A.M.A and for creating this utility :)
Cool!
Just to check, does this work for 1.05?
And also 1.1 beta or will you wait for the final release
thanks
Is this no longer available? The download doesn't seem to be working.
Wow... You're great man... This is very useful... :) Thanks!
Nice work, Well done :)
How do you apply the generated index.template.php file by the program to the forum? it is not just simple copy n paste all???

Perhaps there's a bug in the program. I'm afraid the author currently isn't available.
In the mean time, you may wish to try:
Integrating the forum into your site... (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=19638.0) (although this is more work.)

thats what i need ;D

will the author be back soon? :)
am back :)
you need to copy the generated index.template.php file over your existent one. There is no need to copy/paste.
Please note that this program works with the default theme .. you cant use it for other themes nor an altered version of the default one.

Yea me being a Debian GNU/Linux user/sysadmin I can use the origional posting for my system.

oh i think i replaced the file for the other theme as i was under the impression that the default theme cannot be changed or else it there is a problem. the forum would work. so to say if it's the custom theme that had problems at least you have the default one as backup.
what if i want to use this program on a custom theme? so if anything goes wrong i can use the default one until it's fixed?
It does work now... does anyone know if it's possible to make it in a way that. the banners will all show only on the main page of the forums and once you enter any of the links in the forum, the banners will not show?
me wonders if A.M.A is going to update this handy, usefull sweet tool for 1.1 :P
??? You can just create the theme & do the needed changes for 1.1
one of the templates to choose from the program doesnt have one where we can just have banner space on the top and bottom only.
the closest is the top, bottom and left side. i know the file can be edited to get just the top n bottom showing. does anyone here knows which part to remove or edit?
i only want the top and bottom part for banners, i want to retain the width of the forum.
thanks...
The link for download don't work!
"This domain name expired on 10/18/2005 and is pending renewal or deletion."
A.M.A's domain expired a week ago
Here you go ;)

98 is out of date
Thanks for reply, so with newer version of Win there shouldn't be any problem?

But what if we are not experts like that, or are attempting to make thier FIRST EVER theme (raises hand) and don't know WHAT those changes are? Is there a list somewhere of theme related changes from 1.0.x to 1.1?

so... b4 i waste my time w/ this... the main topic read that is works thru v1.0.5
i read all thru this and didn't find the answer to my question...
... is it safe to assume that it will work w/ v1.0.6?
it was very cool to read through the posts of this topic
does anyone know if anyone prepared a version of this tool to work with smf1.1RC2 ?
do I have better chances of having an answer if I become a charter member ??? ;) ;) ;)
or you could plug N pray
Is there one of these for the Classic Theme?
Will this work with version 1.0.7? if yes, will you please show me the link?
thanks for the reply
Does not run on Linux (using WINE) ;)

It will since 1.0.5 hasn't really had many templates changes since 1.0.4 :P
It would be nice to play with this with SMF 1.1rc3 ;)
I agree bigguy i wanted to ctreate my own theme i can do the graphics easily but not the style sheet
He's still gone, just like [Unknown]... strange...
Maybe he's making a new version, never know. ;)
is there any chance that a new version will come out that will work with 1.1 version? >:(
Read before you post!
And there is for 1.1 RC3 this program?
Excuse for my English )
This is really extremely handy!!
Thanks a lot!
can someone help me understand how to use this, lol I understand the first 2 steps... but the 3rd i am lost!
Bad thing is because it cannot make style.css for different theme. It will only make it for default 1.0 theme. Is there any easy way to make forum header, body and footer in different tables? like on simplemachines community forum (body) and like on this forum (footer)?
Is this template generator compatible with the last smf'update ?

Is this template generator compatible with the last smf'update ?
Im interested in knowing this as well..
no it's just compatible with the old 1.0.x serries
and we have a.m.a not seen for a while
so we don't know if he is developing one for the new 1.1.x series
can i just edit the default smf theme? i mean, this software's default kinda looks err not the same as the smf default theme lol
the babylon theme is the default theme for 1.0.x
the core theme is the default for 1.1.x
;D
All this will do is alter the colours of a template, for 1.0. It is well out of date and not recommended for use in 1.1.
To include adsense you will need to include it manually in the files themselves anyway. That or use the Ad Management mod.
thanks
Wow
Now its gonna be easy to create these themes :)
Sweet :o
I am shocked I'm telling ya shocked :o
Yeah, but this thing is old. Really, really old.
Hehe
So please update it then :o
it isnt owned by Simple Machines LLC we have no control over it ...
damn :p
new download link???
There's no point in using this thing. It is only compatible with 1.0 which makes it really out of date. And like Runic said, it wasn't built by us, so we no longer have the download for it, also A.M.A hasn't been active in three years.
