I would strongly advise against blocking proxies from your forum.
There are several reasons for this
- They only work for transparent proxies, (which basically tell you they are proxies), whereas proxies which are anonymous or 'elite' will generally not be detected.
- More and more ISPs are using open cache proxies (which may get detected as proxies)
- People on company networks may also falsely get detected as proxies.
Usually the reason why people try to use proxy blocker it to stop a few 'sad' individuals from causing havoc on boards.
Unfortunately those people will
a) usually use anonymous proxies which are not detected
b) can usually find a million more proxies to use
I've seen some people post proxy lists to ban, however these change on a hourly (if not daily) basis and you can never have a complete list.
Even if you decide to use one anyway for every 'undesirable' that you turn away, you probably turn 10 times as many legitimate users away.
However with all that said, I may have waffled on a bit. You may have another reason for wanting to detect proxies?

I'm a proxy user because my ISP uses open cache proxies. I cannot disable it or turn it off.
Fortunately my IP will shown my correct IP because it will forward my actual IP, (it is open), whereas other ISPs like AOL do not. (so the IP you see will be the same for most AOL users)

it IS possible! it's just that its a bit of work, you run the risk of blocking legit users at times but it definitely IS a doable proposition :D
the code listed is bull though, because it depends on certain server variables being sent by the proxy which they have no obligation to send (indeed, they can send FALSE DATA to spoof your forum!)
SMF (as of version 1.13) is still subject to IP SPOOFING IN THAT MANNER :(
In fact, that code will more likely block good or LEGIT proxies (like most British Telecom ISP's) it is really no good, but there is a lot of code like that on the net :P
Yeah Rapidshare.com is one of the worst uses of that crap detection code. ;)
I can never download from them. Always detecting me as using a proxy. Even though its open cache proxy and nothing i can do about it.

if you have shell access, just use Lynx to connect to Rapidshare! If you have a Rapidshare account that is.
