http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=download;mod=907;id=38303;image (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=download;mod=907;id=38303;image)
Sure!
This is my test forum and i see no settings.
Jens
If i remove it i become this error page
And i have installed it again and also no settings.
Jens
Looks like a ownership error.
Because of ownership error you are unable to auto modify files through script.
In short contact your host.
Hi,
I Installed it manually because I have to much modifications and it don't work automatically.
It works fine as I can see but!!
I need an option to disable the visual verification for registered users. That is really needed.
Now I have disabled it because I can not force registered users to use this captcha verification.
Andreas
Where you want it to disable?
In PMs? Go to Admin > Features and Options > "Minimum Posts required before CAPTCHA is dsiabled" or something like that and set it to 0 and save.
Hi,
I use SMF 1.1.2 And I don´t have this option.
I have only this:
"Post count under which users must enter code when sending personal messages."
When I enable the visual verification I myself must enter the captche when I´m posting and I have more than 2000 postings.
Andreas
OK I found my Problem.
There was in post.php other, older Code from a hack with captcha.
Now it works perfect, thank you.
Andreas
I'm looking for visual verification for guests since it is missing in SMF (a mystery why...). I've never installed a mod before, and really wish I didn't have to. But, it is important that I allow guests to post and I get so much spam I don't like going to my own board.
I shall look at the code, install it, and hope for the best.
Thanks to Harzem for developing this.
Installing this was pretty quick and painless. And it seems to work quite nicely.
I didn't notice any bugs. Before I put this into production, I'll have to test it out for a few days. If I do find any bugs, I'll be sure to report back.
Thanks to the original developer and Daniel15. This could be the end of 10 - 15 spam messages and bot registrations per day! :D :D :D
There is a major bug in this mod.
The captcha code for visual verification is in TWO different places in the private message screen in my installation. Not only that, but it does NOT work, even when you correctly fill out the captcha information in both places.
I believe one is above the text box where you type your message and the other is just above the submit button.
By the way, I installed this mod on top of a fresh installation of 1.1.3. I downloaded both tonight.
it does not work, using the smf/joomla bridge at all... also the original captcha does not work as well
Here is a danish translation of Modifications.danish-utf8.php to this mod, running on SMF 1.1.4 and Dilber MC theme.

I have a problem both with this mod & the original smf captcha: while working fine in English & Spanish, in Serbian Latin & Cyrilic it doewn't show the image (it does show the translated text). I tried to compare the langpacks but couldn't find where the problem is, could somebody help me, please?

I have a problem both with this mod
See my post above where I say that there is a major bug in this mod.
Don't waste your time with this as it doesn't appear to have been fixed. At least, there are no posts in this thread indicating it has.
I' ve tried it with english and spanish and works fine, and not just with the mod, but also with the original SMF captcha, so I belive the problem is somewhere in the lang files, but I can't detect it (seems a little illogical to be there, right?).

If I understood you right, I suggest you go to PersonalMessage.template.php, delete one of the boxes (usually with 2 boxes it gets confused and none works).
Perhaps you have just installed this twice?
Here's the sollution to my problem, probably will be useful to someone: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=137767.0
Anyone have a idea how to put this mod working with user email mod at the same time?.
Can some one please recode and touch this Mod up so that it works on 1.1.4 and to have an option that members DO NOT have to fill out a (captcha) for anything
It would be so much appreciated, i am in need bad of this. Thanks :)

I think you can do this by yourself, editing the package-info.xml or the modifications.xml file.
PS: Merry Christmas to all of you that celebrate it!

I've got a problem with this mod, if I have scripts in the execution chain which contain UTF-8 characters encoding with byte order mark. Is this a bug in the script? (Which I cant find.) Or in PHP?
I'm using Apache on Windows with PHP 5.2.5 (nessecary extensions installed of course, since it works for most themes and languages (no I didn't forget to modify the theme manually)).
Anyone got an idea on this? Would help me a bunch. :)
PS: I am not keen on removing BOM's in ~700 PHP scripts I'm using.
I really need this mod working with 1.1.4 I tried editing the package-info.xml but when I try to install the package it says it's corrupted.
Please help, my board needs guest posting and i'm getting absoulutely flooded with spam.

I think it's related to the server downtime and some mods and their files got corrupted. We can only hope that the author of this mod will re-upload it. Though you can get it working with 1.1.4 through emulating the version number (search the forums on how-to). Good luck.
Daniel, please upload this mod again. The file got corrupted and it is desperately needed... :(
If Daniel is not going to do it, can someone else please upload the file or give an alterative link to the mod? You would really help :( .
Pls.

I've used this but it then Registration > Admin no longer loads.
I can't get this mod working. I installed it on a local private server with SMF 1.1.4, and it seems to be working fine except for an error in the error log (see below). When I try to install it on my live site (same configuration, including theme and SMF version) it 'installs' fine, however I cannot access the settings page for it. When I look in the error log I see this error:
Quote
8: Undefined index: verificationSettingsDesc
File: [path to smf]/smf/Sources/ManageRegistration.php
Line: 137
as well as this one:
Quote
8: Undefined index: verificationVisual
File: [path to smf]/smf/Sources/ManageRegistration.php
Line: 136
On my local server I am getting one error, however it seems to still be working:
Quote
2: imagettftext() [<a href='function.imagettftext'>function.imagettftext</a>]: Could not read font
File: /var/www/smf/Sources/Verification.php
Line: 946
This is with this mod download: AdvancedVisualVerification_1-2_Fixed.tgz
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I find it a little strange to see how many people have problems with this mod. I installed it on a relatively fresh 1.1.5 installation with only a few other mods installed (TinyPortal and AutoTooltips/AutoLinktips) and it is working fine.
The only minor problem it gives me is that sometimes (about 1 out of every 5 times) one character less is displayed than it is supposed to. I mean that you can only see 4 characters while there should be 5 and when changing the settings to 3 characters I sometimes see just 2. This isn't a "real problem" because the text says you should see 5 characters, so you can just request a new image if you only see 4, but it is a little annoying.
When I came to this topic to see if anyone else reported this "problem" I noticed a lot of people having troubles with this mod. It is still working/supported?
[Edit]
Since noone replied yet, I thought I'd just edit this post...
Is there any way to change the main (background) color of the verification image so I can match it to my theme?
[Edit 2]
Never mind the color question, already found it in /Sources/Verification.php under:
$background_color = array(234, 237, 243);
$foreground_color = array(64, 101, 136);
Still missing characters though...
[Edit 3]
Okay, finally got the "missing characters" problem solved too. Aparantly my server had troubles with the dymo.ttf font and was unable to display it. When trying to open the font on my Mac, Font Book just crashes. It's weird that I have the exact same problem on another server with a SMF installation that is -not- from the same package, so it seems like the problem with the font is somewhere in the source package maybe? ::)
Anyhow, the mod is working perfectly now. I'll just leave my own problem solving message in here in case someone else is experiencing the same weird behaviour and might use the search function in here. :-)
I tried the visual verification mod... http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=907,
but it didn't work on either one of my 2 boards that are running SMF 1.1.5. These are both clean new boards.
I don't see any images in the preview mode, and I don't see any images when I am trying to register.
Hmmm, is this obvious to anyone?
The features in the admin panel look pretty cool. I just wish I could get it to work.
Suggestions appreciated.
Richard
I have smf 1.1.5 and also had the same problems after installing this mod:
I saw no admin configuration, and the new posts where rejected for not accomplishing with the captcha, but no captcha was shown to the guest, so they would not post.
This is how I could fix it:
=================
I noticed I have a theme which is different from the default theme, so I took a look to the ftp files and noticed that, under the Themes folder, this mod affected only to the default folder, changing files
The solution:
=========
I downloaded to my pc this files from the default theme folder (Themes/default/):
./Themes/default/languages/Modifications.english.php
./Themes/default/Register.template.php
./Themes/default/Post.template.php
./Themes/default/Search.template.php
./Themes/default/PersonalMessage.template.php
Then I looked for this same files, but this time under my custom theme folder (Themes/pnpn115b/)
I found that this theme had his own version of some of that files (all of them but Register.template.php)
Carefully, edited my custom theme files and made the same modifications they had suffered in the default theme. (obviously after backup them).
And ... voila! the mod works.
Surely there are better ways to do this. Maybe I should have my custom theme copied to the default folder BEFORE I install any of this mods, so the installation process would modify it the same way it modified the default theme.
I don't know if this is the standard process for a mod install, to change only the default theme instead of modding all the themes, or at least the one I have set as common for all users.
for my themes i like i usually only use a style.css file and let the default folder take care of the rest. Seems to make my modding go a bit easier and the only manual changes i seem to have to do are to language files.

You need to have the fonts used in this mod in some folder, dunno which one right now, maybe just try to reinstall it (remove it via packages manager and then install it) to fix that.

Download and open all your language files and remove the Byte-Order-Mark. There's a bug in PHP which causes it to always add the Byte-Order-Mark to the output of the script, no matter what the output is. You can remove the byte order mark, with an UTF-8 compatible Texteditor like Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm). Open the file, select Save as and in the Codepage dropdown select
UTF-8 without BOM and save the files with the same name, as they had before. Then upload the language files back to your server.
I'm trying to uninstall this mod because it's preventing me from upgrading to 1.1.6 and this is what I got.
1. Execute Modification ./index.php Test successful
2. Execute Modification ./Sources/Register.php Test successful
3. Execute Modification ./Sources/Subs-Graphics.php Test successful
4. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/Register.template.php Test failed

12. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/languages/Modifications.english.php Test successful
13. Delete File ./Sources/Verification.php
14. Delete Tree ./Themes/default/ttf_fonts
Any thoughts on how to get this uninstalled?
I need this mod because the colored one SMF uses by default doesn't work right on my server.
On one forum, I just backed up the Sources dir and SSI.php and index.php and ran the update anyway. It worked fine ( if it didn't I could just have restored the backed up files).
I diffed the resulting Register.php and Register.php~ files and the only 2 lines that were different involved the captcha code (and one for the version #) and the changes looked fine. It seems to be working fine as well YMMV.

I just tried the available package in 1.1.6 and it works "fine".

Hi,
this mod has had issues when trying to upgrade to SMF 1.1.6 from 1.1.5 - the upgrade fails on Register.php, and so does the uninstall of the Advanced Visual Verification mod. I uninstalled it regardless of the test fail and upgraded my forum. Now it is back to haunt me, and I'm having issues with posting as a guest, it gives an error from Sources/Post.php saying it needs Sources/Verification.php.
I re-installed the mod and now the CAPTCHA image comes out all screwed up (less than 5 letters at times, and it is impossible to get the letters correct, even when it does give 5 letters).
I have no option but to completely uninstall this, so how do I manually get this totally off my forum for now? :(
Thank you!

Unfortunately it still does not appear to work properly with my registration process. I just tried installing it again and I (a guest) can not register with it installed.
OK, after a long period of a broken board and no replies I was getting frustrated. I finally had more than ten minutes to sit down to it and got it manually uninstalled. Here is the error i was getting:
Fatal error: post2() [function.require]: Failed opening required '[directory]/forum/Sources/Verification.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php') in [directory]/forum/Sources/Post.php on line 1290
The solution, after uninstalling the mod by the admin panel, is to go into Post.php and remove the code including and between the tags:
// --- Begin added code - Advanced Visual Verification ---
// --- End added code ---
This did it. Hopefully nothing else was left behind by it :(

Hello, great mod, I got rid of robots but it has some problems.
1. Sometimes you have 4 chars instead of 5
2. I got the following message that does not happen every time:
Quote2: imagettftext() [<a href='function.imagettftext'>function.imagettftext</a>]: Could not read font

acidic.ttf
borduu.ttf
cbgb.ttf
corporeaa.ttf

kulminoituva.ttf
Any ideas?
Requiring captcha for guest posts would be an amazing feature for me. It sounds like this mod will do the trick. Wondering if anyone has had any luck installing it on 1.1.8?
Or are there any other mods that would implement a captcha verification for guest posts?
Thanks.

I had this installed on 1.1.7, but when I upgraded to 1.1.8 registration broke.
Removed it and registration worked as normal again. Tried to manually install on 1.1.8 (it would not auto install for me) and wound up breaking the entire forum, had to restore from backup. So now I'm without my favorite mod.
Damn! Thanks for saving me the trouble though...
Hey,
so there's no other way to prevent bot's from spamming on the forum if guests are allowed to write? Is there any other viable solution for 1.1.8 version of SMF?
Thanks for help.
tx to iRuben for htions about broken font ;) great tip, big + for u ...
I downloaded the latest version of advanced visual verification from the customization site and on the first step of installation it warns me that it is not recommended to install the modification because the following file has failed...
./Sources/Register.php Test failed
I then upgraded my forum from 1.1.9 to 1.1.10 thinking that might resolve the problem. It now says that the advanced visual verification is not compatible with this version.
I'm hoping this "Daniel" guy decides to upgrade the mod. But I understand if he doesn't.

Dont know what should I do. Thanks for any help.
update the Mod. for 1.1.10 ;)
This mod is not working on my forum. Check the attached image.
I have two issues. One, users receive the following error msg when trying to register, "Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator." I believe it is because the smf_verfication_user table does not exist in my database. How do I add that table?
Secondly, I don't see the visual verification even though I have it enabled in the admin settings???
Hello,
I am running SMF 1.1.11 and just wanted to uninstall Advanced Visual Verification, but in the packet manager, I don't get the "uninstall" option displayed for this mod.
I can only delete it.
Can anyone help me on how to perform the uninstall?
Thanks!
any chance of updating this for 1.1.11?
yes, I'm intersted fo a 1.1.11 version too.
tomicko and aLEX, Daniel15 left SMF early last year, quite a long time ago - I doubt he'd be updating it. But, the version posted here (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=189349.msg2303533#msg2303533) for 1.1.10 should work with 1.1.11.
bumping this topic... I'm looking to reduce bot registrations and would appreciate feedback on whether this mod is effectively doing that as of September 2010, or have the bots adapted?
any other recommendations for eliminating bots is welcome.
Can you make this mod for SMF 2 RC4 or RC5?
Hi - Can you tell me if this is compatible with 1.1.16 please?
Thanks.
