Add gallery in the current array -- then...
if (in_array($context['current_action'], array('search', 'admin', 'calendar', 'gallery', 'profile', 'mlist', 'register', 'login', 'help', 'pm')))

Just add the button like so:

   // How about the [gallery] button?
      echo '<li><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=galllery"><span>Gallery</span></a></li>';

Excuse me, I'm just testing your theme and how integrate it in my forum.

I plan to translate your theme to spanish, and of course, give you your pertinent "©" in it. I removed your "©" because I'm very very newbie to PHP, and I use yours "as template".

When finish, I'll send you the modified spanish graphics ant text. Maybe you make a release with spanish language in it.

Anyway, It doesn't matter. If you dont want, I'll make no modifications.

WRC.

NO!!

What's the use of a theme if the user can't even change a few buttons or colors, especially if they leave your copyright intact. Rediculous and I'm pretty sure people be willing to make a small financial  contribution to be able to make these small changes, but with your approach nobody is getting better from it.

Actually wings you are the one acting like quite a idiot here.
Here at SMF we take Copyright matters seriously. You are simple not allowed to remove Themes/Mods Copyright unless -
You are allowed to do so(He is stated that you can)
You have permission from author.
It is simply not there

Sorry for that, my excuses again, just testing. I'm a newbie and don't want to bother anybody. I'm just looking for a good theme, and yours is a very very good one.

Dragooon, I understand that copyright is a important question. For that reason I have requested permission, although I've failed in the copyright issue for newbie.

Copyright back, sorry again and again and again. My mistake.  :(

Now crip, can I modify your theme (sizes, buttons and some texts) to adapt it to my Spanish forum?

Best regards
WRC

Hi, I did install it last week and replaced the name ' blackrain'
with my sites name. After a while it came up with a copyright notice on 2
big white horizontal stripes, ruined the site.  I
didn't remove anything else from the site. The copyright was not touched at the bottom. Was it wrong to change 'Blackrain' name with my site name. Would you please be able to help
and probably you know what the problem was before I try to put BlackRain v.2
on again
Thanks
Al

Been using BlackRain v1 for a while, and now I just installed v2. Having had a quick look around it's looking very nice, and I'm glad to see you've improved the navigation in the admin-panel (the links were without pictures and were very tight before in BlackRain v1).

However, another thing that used to bother me with BL is still there:
Say if you're going to install a new theme, or you want to upload a package. The white box for the "choose" upload-button doesn't display the text. If I want to doublecheck that I'm uploading the right file, I always have to highlight the text in order to read it.

Just wondering, how easy is it to add an option in the theme settings for
1) Text-colour.
2) Width (+ fixed width option).

I know these are very simple edits, but especially for the text-colour it would be nice if it was possible to quickly change around with text colours just in order to experiment and see what fits your preference, seeing as many different text-colours fit this theme really well.

Edit: Oh, and I would love to see some soft corners, maybe pics more similar to the top navigation, on the BBC buttons. Other than that, I don't think I have anything else to comment on besides how much I'm still loving the Black Rain theme. Great job man!

(oh btw, what caused caused the filesize from v1 to v2 to double? Just curious, not causing any problems).

also, a big no-no in creating websites is that people browsing the site should never have to scroll sideways. Scrolling downwards and upwards is fine, but never sideways. This them requires visitors to always scroll sideways to read what is printed in the right most part of the page. In other words, the page is too wide for the monitor.  This problem should certainly be fixed with this and ALL other themes.

Great job!  I made a slight change to make the nav links and visited links look like Blakc Rain and it matches my Joomla Carbon07 almost perfectly now.

It has width control in the style.css

dont know if this has been posted already, couldnt find anything on it

but mine didnt showthe most online stats on the board index so i found this code in the board.index.template for the theme

  // Assuming there ARE users online... each user in users_online has an id, username, name, group, href, and link.
   if (!empty($context['users_online']))
      echo '
            ', $txt[140], ':<br />', implode(', ', $context['list_users_online']);

   echo '
            <br />', $context['show_stats'] && !$settings['show_sp1_info'] ? '
            <a href="' . $scripturl . '?action=stats">' . $txt['smf223'] . '</a>' : '', '

         </div>
      </td>
   </tr>';

and added the code i found for it in the default template and added it, had to get rid of the td and put it into the exsiting div instead of out of it but finally found a way to put it on

here ya go

   // Assuming there ARE users online... each user in users_online has an id, username, name, group, href, and link.
   if (!empty($context['users_online']))
      echo '
            ', $txt[140], ':<br />', implode(', ', $context['list_users_online']);

   echo '
            <br />', $context['show_stats'] && !$settings['show_sp1_info'] ? '
            <a href="' . $scripturl . '?action=stats">' . $txt['smf223'] . '</a>' : '', '
<span class="middletext">
', $txt['most_online_today'], ': <b>', $modSettings['mostOnlineToday'], '</b>.
', $txt['most_online_ever'], ': ', $modSettings['mostOnline'], ' (' , timeformat($modSettings['mostDate']), ')
</span>
         </div>

I have used your Back-N-Black theme for several years & was looking to make a change.  I just installed Black Rain V.2 and everything seems to work just fine except one image.  Here is screenshots of the problem.

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi147.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr301%2Fkeirawen%2Fstuff%2F1.jpg&hash=40f8aa50e0068d7abd01beef0a1e8567541a1a8f)

This image which is usually the "on" or "off" image is broken.
On the main page it works just fine, but on all the subcategories it doesn't show.

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi147.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr301%2Fkeirawen%2Fstuff%2F2.jpg&hash=151a9a3258a23cbf5f558491c6565ce622d552c7)

When I right click to see what the problem is it shows this.  Can you help?  Is there a broken script somewhere I need to fix?
PS:  I removed my URL to prevent spammers.

Thanks in advance.   :D

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi147.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr301%2Fkeirawen%2Fstuff%2F2.jpg&hash=151a9a3258a23cbf5f558491c6565ce622d552c7)

When I right click to see what the problem is it shows this.  Can you help?  Is there a broken script somewhere I need to fix?
PS:  I removed my URL to prevent spammers.

Thanks in advance.   :D

That should be by default the /images/icons/xx.gif .. so it must be a missing icon image is all i can think of??

After looking over your demo I can see that it is the xx.gif
With further inspection the image is present and working correctly on my server.
It is the URL path script on the actual template that seems to be missing.  I uninstalled the theme & reinstalled it and that did not change anything.  Where in the code is this script located so I can either add it or repair it?

Thanks again for all your help.   :D

Hello Crip,

I have looked here and the TP site and i have not found an answer to my problem, i am hoping you could help me.

I am trying to add a button to the menu that links to an external URL, i have yet to see any examples that not only works but also looks like the rest of the buttons on the menu. I am very new to php so i am sure that is the first issue but could you enlighten me?

Thank you,

I tried downloading this theme from 3 different computers and the file is corrupted.  Can you reupload a new archive?

Thanks!

crip, i like the theme, I am trying to get my coppermine gallery to match.
Im working on the main menu buttons right now and I am having a bit of difficulty understanging how you made the color change on the mouse-over.

The 'maintab_*.gif is the image I should edit correct? to me it looks like the buton when its moused-over, I dont see an image that matches the button itself.

There is No main_tabs.gif // mirror_tabs.gif on Blackrain main menu... it's only two small images [tabright] tableft] for the entire menu ..
Add any or all additional buttons the same as --> [home] and [help] -- basic copy + paste, that's it..

If you see the URL it usually contains something similar to this:
Quote<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=help">

Remember that $scripturl is set to http://www.yourdomain.com/path_to_forum/index.php. So if you want it to go to an external site you replace the whole string like this.
Quote<a href="http://www.external_site.com">

I originally had Black Rain V1 installed. Great theme!! I wanted to try out V2 however, I have ran into a couple of problems. My buttons are not appearing under the header to navigate around the forum (http://digioverdose.com/forum) (IE: Admin, Profile, etc). Did I miss something there? Also, if I go to 'Current Theme' and add my header, the header shows up twice. I'm sure it is something simple, but I'm not having any luck. Can anyone help?

Thank you in advance ;)

Find this code in index.template.php:
if (empty($settings['header_logo_url']))
echo '
<span style="font-family: Lucida Grande, lucida sans; font-size: 140%; ">', $context['forum_name'], '</span>';
else
echo '
<img src="', $settings['header_logo_url'], '" style="margin: 4px;" alt="', $context['forum_name'], '" />';

Replace with this:
if (empty($settings['header_logo_url']))
echo '
<span style="font-family: Lucida Grande, lucida sans; font-size: 140%; ">', $context['forum_name'], '</span>';

Ah.... after posting I realized you guys have the wrong version. The version that has the two logo problem is the SMF 2.0 version of the theme.  You need the other download and not the v2_20 one. However, this still needed to be fixed. :) Crip, can you fix your theme page for this theme to specify which download is for which version of SMF. Thanks.

If you right click on them and choose properties it will show you the path to those images. Make sure the files are actually on your server and are located in the correct place. If they are not there, check the zip file for the theme to see if they are included in there.

But... there are errors in image buttons:

I see "X" when Im using IE.
In FF, there are no images/buttons at all.

Hey Crip, I have been playing around with this theme tonight as I'm planning on eventually hauling my community into SMF 2.0Beta4 instead of the 1.1.x and  am rather impressed with the theme. It's elegant and aesthetically pleasing at the same time.

I was however wondering if you could give me a hand with how to add additional buttons to the menu? I have searched through the index.template.php file looking for the things that have been previously stated in this thread but can't find them at all. I have installed a few mods and now have 3 links on the menu bar, but they have no names and aren't full size.

Thanks in advance.

I have managed to get the buttons I needed, only down side is they are hard coded for the text, but since we only use English I don't suppose it would cause too big an issue.

Hi Crip :)

Excellent theme, it almost matches my website which is great, it's the only one I have seen that even comes close :)

However I am having a few slight css type problems and would appreciate any help with this

The first one is on the smf forum admin page (I am using smf 2.0 beta 4) with the new layout of the admin tabs they appear like this

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.euadvantage.com%2Fdark_rain_v2%2F2008-11-02_232112.jpg&hash=70acec4c50867f0ee42626175ed06297e98f45ac)

all in white and the other problem is on the package download page where the browse box is white as is the text

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.euadvantage.com%2Fdark_rain_v2%2F2008-11-02_233021.jpg&hash=d83046844ee08bf6fd5fd23c402eed55c73711b5)

it only seems to affect file upload input fields

edit... Having looked into it a bit further it seems to affect all file type input fields

Add different input "types" not just one :
Example:: ? cuz i really dunno ?

input1 {
background: #1E1E1E;
color: white;
font-family: verdana, sans-serif;
font-size: 90%;
}

Title: Re: BlackRainV.2
Post by: edjon2000 on November 04, 2008, 01:09:37 PM
Hi Crip thanks for the response :)

I'll try to describe it a little better when I say input type I meant like in html forms

eg a user login form my be coded like this

<form id="form1" method="post" action="<?php echo $loginFormAction; ?>">
    <p>&nbsp;</p>
    <p>
         <label for="userName">Username:</label>
         <input type="text" name="userName" id="userName" />
    </p>
    <p>
          <label for="passWord">Password:</label>
          <input type="password" name="passWord" id="passWord" />
    </p>
    <p>
          <input type="submit" name="memLogin" id="memLogin" value="Login" />
    </p>
</form>

Which would generate a form similar to this

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.euadvantage.com%2Fdark_rain_v2%2F2008-11-04_173726.jpg&hash=74c86fb936c41bd36cef56a5e5f89cd57b609c5d)

These are three of the typical input types text(textfield), password(modified textfield) and submit(button)

Also for uploading files there is the input type file as follows

<form enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post" action="awpskillsupload.php">
   <p>Skills upload</p>
   <p>Select your skills file, and press 'upload' </p>
   <p>
        <input type="file" size="21" name="my_field" value="" />
   </p>
   <p class="button">
        <input type="hidden" name="action" value="simple" />
        <input type="submit" name="Submit" value="upload" />
    </p>
</form>

this would generate a form similar to this

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.euadvantage.com%2Fdark_rain_v2%2F2008-11-04_180332.jpg&hash=5376a987a69e7c16bed59ea6bebb59e17f70bce9)

This input type auto generates a browse button to enable users to upload files from their local machine.

So this particular problem does seem to be css related hope this helps :)

Hmm Crip

I have just looked at a few other dark themes that have recently been updated for smf 2.0 b4 and they all have exactly the same problem in the areas I mentioned in the admin tabs and all file upload areas, here is an example from another dark theme called Back'n'Black.

Admin Tabs

This is actually a bug in FF I think. Are you using Firefox? Does it look the same in IE for you?

Post by: edjon2000 on November 04, 2008, 03:59:34 PM
HI IchBin thanks for your help :)

Yes you are right it is an ff problem but why only that type of field ?

Still have the problem with the admin horiz tabs however I think that is a case of finding the right css for the buttons they look to be ajax generated so there may be a seperate css file somewhere for that.

edit... yes there is it's called dropmenu.css

Hi Crip

I thought about that and set up a fresh forum on my own web server just to be sure with a fresh download of everything forum and theme, I then spent a bit of time looking at the related css files, I did notice that if the dropmenu.css file was moved to the blackrain css folder it changed those horizontal admin tabs as follows

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.euadvantage.com%2Fdark_rain_v2%2F2008-11-05_161037.jpg&hash=f306aa6e248d317fa0997da80b9c0332b759c168)

But without that file they are like this

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.euadvantage.com%2Fdark_rain_v2%2F2008-11-05_163216.jpg&hash=2e58f7236cbfab6d86eb3ddd91fbac163f2557eb)

so it appears that the dropdown.css is that file that needs to be altered and included in the dark rain css theme folder, I hope this helps a little :)

Hi Crip

would you mind if I had a look at it, if nothing else it will give me an insight into how to create an SMF theme, obviously any changes I make to my local copy I will send to you as the orignal creator of the theme, I think I am getting the basic idea already but am still a long way off actually creating one of my own, I am still trying to get to grips with css and templates and how it all fits together in the SMF forum software.

I have the problem if I want to add the rate that topic mod ( http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1313 ) manual to the theme BlackRainV.2 ( http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=348 ) I don't find the place of the code where I have to replace. I mean I make a search for that piece of code in that file and it doesn't exist.

Really awsome theme! Please tell me, how I can add Simple Portal and ShoutMix at your theme? ::)

I found it here http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1104 but there is no help for other themes than Dafault and Babylon.

Ahoy there! I have good news!

To add Simple Portal and chat at Black Rain V.2 theme simply follow these steps...

1. Reset your forum theme to default (core).
2. Download and Apply the Simple Portal package.
3. To give a try on how it looks with B.R. theme, go to Simple Portal admin control and change the theme from Default to Black Rain
4. If you are ok with the result, then change the current theme to B.R. and you are done!

Simple portal works and looks better than Ad management package.

It has the same exactly functions with ad managenet, plus you can add BBC, html and other stuff codes!

I would like to make 2 questions!

1st In main forum page, how can someone remove the "Users active in past 180 minutes:" and put instead of that this "Users active:", without time.

2nd Is it possible to add a Warn or Muted label on bad users?

Not really a theme question. But if you open the index.english.php file and find this line:
$txt[140] = 'Users active in past ' . $modSettings['lastActive'] . ' minutes';

Change to this:
$txt[140] = 'Users active:';

As for the warn/muted label, I haven't taken a look at that code yet.

You are adding the logo URL in the Theme options and preferences, instead, name the logo "myslogan.jpg" and put it in /Themes/BlackRainV2_20b4/images/

Hey Crip! I was hoping you or someone here may be able to give me a hand. Im trying to install JohnnyB's "AvatarOnBoard" mod into this theme. Unfortunately there is so many changes with this theme, im having trouble figuring out where and what code i need to place and or modify for the mod inside the BoardIndex.template.php and MessageIndex.template.php. Any help from anyone will be greatly appreciated. Thanx!

EDIT: I just finished installing all my other mods, and started looking around at everything and just wanted to ask: Is this normal for the profile view or did i screw something up lol?

Do you want me to write the coment it out part? or delete that?

Please a little more info will give me more courage to mess around with that.

I can alway do a backup and load it if I messthat file up right? One more question:

I want to incorporate the attached file as a bacground for this theme as well as the Albino theme. I will post the same in the albino section. I am not sure but on this theme is just changing the file for the picture right?

Let me know Crip and thanks for all these great themes.

You install the mod like any other mod for SMF. In the package manager you upload the zip file, and then click apply mod and follow along. :) SMF will do all the unzipping, database and file modifications for you.

What do the server settings have to do with the theme settings? You shouldn't have any button options in the server settings. I'm not 100% sure, but don't you have to add the buttons manually to this theme? I'm not following you I guess...

There shouldn't be any need to update the theme. There were not any updates to the templates so the current version should work just fine.

Hi all,

Just a quick question, I spent most of last night modifying the theme to fit in with my web site slightly better, mainly changes to style.css and a minor change to index.template.php firstly, is it ok to do that, as long as I keep the Black Rain v2 by Crip acknowledgement at the bottom and can I, or should I add, modified by ... to it

Just wanting to make sure I am not breaking any licensing agreements.

I found in the Post/index/template/php a small section i added [style="color: black;"] fixed that for Attachments ..

Also the same issue when uploading Avatars in Your Profile ...... style.css adjustments WILL NOT work ,
unless , you make all input,textarea,selects Backgrounds White , text must be Solid Black ....

imo, it has to do with a Jscript someWherE ?>?

How do I fix avatars not fitting and showing scroll bars? Some users are using stock avatars that are just a few pixals too wide and then you get ugly scroll bars.

The template that affects the user avatars is the Display.template.php file. This file is not included in this theme, hence the reason Crip referred to the default theme. You can either alter the file in the default theme, or copy that file to this theme and make the change to the avatar code to make it allow wider images.
Probably this bit of code, but just a guess.
<td valign="top" width="16%" rowspan="2" style="overflow: hidden;">

Just change the 16% and see if it works.
Title: Re: BlackRainV.2

Code: [Select] (//http://javascript:void(0);) <td valign="top" width="16%" rowspan="2" style="overflow: hidden;">
Just change the 16% and see if it works.

Thanks for that, however the code you suggest I look for and edit is not in Display.template.php, I even searched for partial text shown but to no avail. I'm running SMF 2 RC1-1 if that matters
Title: Re: BlackRainV.2
Post by: IchBin™ on June 30, 2009, 02:28:31 PM
Definitely makes a difference, thats why its helpful to always post what versions. :)

In the forum.css file look for the .poster class and change the width there from 15% to whatever you need. I think that will do it.

Thanks IchBan that did the ticket. I increased it to 16% from 15% as anything larger moved the text of the message lower. ;D

Great theme! I have it up on a test site to modify a few things.  Right now I am working on the myslogan.

when you resize your browers to the smaller. Myslogan.jpg does not re size with it.

here is what I am talking about. http://www.36thid.com/simp (http://www.36thid.com/simp)

so how do you get it to re size with it?

Thanks all.

It looks to me as though the banner itself should be resized before being added.

Have a look at my forum which is on the same theme.

Incidently unlike you I use simple portal.

Theme: BlackrainV2_10.zip

I'm having a weird issues with this theme, the crumbtrail isn't displaying properly.  I've attached an image that shows it on crip's site and on mine.

Basically the >> between the crumbtrail links on my site show up as a ? in a diamond.

This is in Firefox 3.5.2

I tested this in IE 7 and on my forum the >> appears as a empty box, but on Crip's site it's correct.

It sounds like there might be something wrong with the way my server interprets the characters...or the files themselves?

Anyone have any ideas?
Title: Re: BlackRainV.2

That is the linktree. Look in the theme's index.template.php for this code

   // Don't show a separator for the last one.
if ($link_num != count($context['linktree']) - 1)
echo ' >';[/td]

There is a whitespace that is causing that.
This will eliminate that, just delete the whitespace in the third line so that it looks like this-
echo '>';[/td]

echo ' > ';

But to the very right hand side in the empty space.

this is completetely not aligned! the "Subject:" and its editbox, the "Message Icon:" and its combobox, the "Additional Options" too close to the text editor... everything! :o
with the default theme it is all aligned correctly. i saw this even on another forum using blackrain v2 theme, and it shows up like this with every browser. so i think it's a theme bug.

what do i have to change to make it display correctly?

EDIT: just one more thing, (as show in the screenshot below) if i click on Additional Options, there are dots on the left of every checkbok, which i think that shouldn't appear...

Hiya Crip

First of all, thank you for the theme, I am using it as a base for modifying (slightly) for the legion I am in for Aion. I am however having one slightly annoying problem and for the life of me I can't work it out :(

I am wanting the menu bar (the bit with forum, help, search etc) to be centrally aligned on the page. Being the noob I am with CSS and not knowing the changes so much between smf 1 and 2.0 I am having huge issues making the menu centre. At the moment (after a lot of hacking I have used..
#tabs6 {
position: relative;
left:80px;
width: 99%;
font-size:90%;
margin: auto;
line-height:normal;
height: 44px;

To kinda force it more centrally. This is very cludgy to say the least and will only look centred if the user doesn't have many buttons (guests see it waaaayyyy off centre).

I am guessing I am missing something really really simple to change so that the whole lot kinda grows from the middle instead of left to right..

You can see how much I have bodged it up so far by looking at www.aequalis-legion.com

Any help or advice greatfully received and you can even laugh at me for my noobness if you want?   ;D

I feel silly even asking this. I've spent some time learning this theme but I don't have a solid grasp just yet.

Where is the best place to insert a background-image ?

Title: Re: BlackRainV.2
Post by: Fabius85 on November 28, 2009, 01:45:00 AM
well, i fixed that on my own. if anyone needs, just add this to the end of index.css:
#post_header
{
margin-bottom: 0.5em;
border-bottom: 1px solid #CACDD3;
padding: 0.5em;
overflow: hidden;
}

#post_header dt
{
float: left;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
width: 15%;
margin: .3em 0;
font-weight: bold;
}

#post_header dd
{
float: left;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
width: 83%;
margin: .3em 0;
}

#post_header img
{
vertical-align: middle;
}

ul.post_options
{
margin: 0 0 0 1em;
padding: 0;
list-style: none;
overflow: hidden;
}

ul.post_options li
{
margin: 0.2em 0;
width: 49%;
float: left;
}

#postAdditionalOptionsHeader
{
margin-top: 1em;
}
#postMoreOptions
{
border-bottom: 1px solid #CACDD3;
padding: 0.5em;
}

#postAttachment, #postAttachment2
{
overflow: hidden;
margin: .5em 0;
padding: 0;
border-bottom: 1px solid #CACDD3;
padding: 0.5em;
}

#postAttachment dd, #postAttachment2 dd
{
margin: .3em 0 .3em 1em;
}

#postAttachment dt, #postAttachment2 dt
{
font-weight: bold;
}

#postAttachment3
{
margin-left: 1em;
}

#post_confirm_strip, #shortcuts
{
padding: 1em 0 0 0;
}

.post_verification
{
margin-top: .5em;
}

.post_verification #verification_control
{
margin: .3em 0 .3em 1em;
}

if you  even want the "shortcuts message" and the post and preview buttons centered under the middle of the editor box, add this too to the end of index.css:
#shortcuts {
margin-left: 15%;
}
#post_confirm_buttons {
margin-left: 29%;
}

for the first problem (avatar choice), just add this to the end of your index.css:
#personal_picture
{
display: block;
margin-bottom: 0.3em;
}

for the second problem (Features and Options in admin panel), well, that's not an alignment bug of the theme, as you can see by switching to the SMF default theme. some options just dont have their "?" box, so everything is aligned to left.

for the third problem, in your index.css search for this:
#verification_control, #verification_control .smalltext
{
display: inline;
}

and replace it with this:
#verification_control, #verification_control .smalltext
{
display: block;
}

that's all ;)

How do I change the logo.   I tried doing it with the manager, but it puts it below the black rain logo.   I went to the templete file, but it is hard to see where to change the text.

any help??

In the (index.templete.php) there is 1 < table > up @ top , this is where you change BRV2 logo / banner

however, logo is in index.template.php, search for: "myslogan.jpg"

Sorry, that above code is for 1.1.x  It is in style.css. The image fade.jpg is in-
/Themes/BlackRain2/images/

The below code is for the 2.0 version of the theme. it is found in /Themes/BlackRain20/css/index.css
body {
background: #333 url(../images/fade.jpg) repeat-x top;
font: 95%/90% "Trebuchet MS", Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif;
margin: 0;
padding: 0px 0 4px 0;
}

same for fade.jpg as in 1.1.x- Themes/BlackRain20/images/

To find the colours easier, why don't you just try tools like colourificator? google it and you will be amazed of the way it works...You point the place and it gives you that dot-specific colour in numbers (or hex etc...), so by that numbers you are able to locate these in any css file ... ;)

i am scared to post my board because ADMINS and MODS might think that as spamming

---- let us JUST SAY

i am trying to embed video and chat SIDE BY SIDE for 1024x768 viewers ------ i think it might be the OUTSIDE boarder of the THEME that is holding me back

i would like to share my NASCAR / RACING board if you can PM me ---- i love your work --- i love how it looks with the black and gold/yellow

well, i could just use some help to see if you ccould find time to help me

thanks for your time :)

think i solved my own issue with some reading about "WIDTHCONTROL" ---- then i just took a "STAB" at some of the outside black areas

again -- i was doing this for 1024x768 resolution viewers --- and i have embeded video and Pjirc chat side by side for that JustinTV channel they are watching --- so EVERY LITTLE extra pixel i can free up to make the chat wider and video wider and still be side by side ---- well you can see
html {
height : 100%;
margin-bottom : 1px;
}
#widthControl  {
width : 99%;
text-align : left;
margin : 0 auto;
padding : 10px 5px 4px 5px;
}/code]

thats what i got to solve my delima for the time being --- i think that 30px on both sides was killing me -- so made it smaller

thanks again for the script -- you did a awsome job on this and many people comment on it

thanks again crip

I honestly have no idea what the issue is.  At this point, my only suggestion is to manually edit all the Theme template files that each mod installs. Use the mod parser to get all the manual edits required for each mod.

here is a start. http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=402

To get the manual instructions for each mod, go to the download page of that mod. Look to the right and choose your SMF version on the manual installation line, then click the parse button beneath it.

One more question - I'm attempting to edit the font size of the main text:
"/* Set a fontsize that will look the same in all browsers. */
body {
   background: #171717;
   font: 95%/95% Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif;
   margin: 0;

Instead of changing the font size in the body tag, you can experiment with these. Look in index.css for this code.
/* Default font sizes: small (8pt), normal (10pt), and large (14pt). */
.smalltext, tr.smalltext th {
font-size: 0.85em;
font-family: verdana, sans-serif;
}
.middletext {
font-size: 0.9em;
font-family: verdana, sans-serif;
}
.normaltext {
font-size: 1em;
line-height: 1.2em;
}
.largetext {
font-size: 1.4em;
}
.centertext {
margin: 0 auto;
text-align: center;
}
.righttext {
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: 0;
text-align: right;
}
.lefttext {
margin-left: 0;
margin-right: auto;
text-align: left;
}

This is a great theme. I have been trying different things with different themes. I like this one.

I have a question. Inside the frame how do you change the color to a pic.  To see what I am talking about please check it out. I seem to can not find where to change inside the frame to a pic.

Crip, GREAT theme, actually both are blackrain203 and this one.
I have a couple questions about both themes.

blackrainv2203
1. What font are you using in the myslogan.jpg? I want to make one just like it but with my forum name in it.
2. I want to stretch the myslogan out to match the overall board size, where is the best place to make this change?

blackrain203:
1. What font are you using in the brlogo.gif? I want to make one using those fonts.
2. I want to center the brlogo and stretch it out to match the overall board size, where is the best place to make this change?

Again Thanks for your work it is APPRECIATED

In SMF2 index.css look for -
/* this is the main container surrounding everything, use this to set forum width, font-size  etc. */
#mainframe
{
font-size: 85%;
width: 95%;
margin: auto;
}

change the width line to-
width: 995px;

Hello,

I will start by saying I am a newbie to SMF and I haven't made a webpage since 1996 (and even then I hosted it from a floppy disc.  IE: It was never uploaded to the web).  So far I have been able to register a domain, get it hosted, and got an SMF forum up by using FAQs, boards, etc.  It took about 20 hours...But I know I could do it again in about 3 minutes, so I guess I learned something.

Crip, I really like this theme and I am curious if I am allowed to remove the black rain image and replace it with one of my own.

Is that acceptable or is it against the copyright agreement?

Thank you

You can personalize it however you want. What you shouldn't do is change the copyright or link to the author is all.

#ob1 {

Ok Thanks!

A couple of more questions.

1) Can I make changes on my site "live" (if it is already uploaded by using the admin section)?  Or do I have to modify offline and re-upload the theme.

2)  I know HTML, and I have a basic understanding of CSS, But where can I find the code.  I see multiple css for different browsers, but is there some kind of master style sheet I can edit?

Basically the two things I would like to change are: put in my own club logo and change all the yellow text to red.  Any help would be appreciated!

BTW I did look over the tutorial forum (Clarity) , but I could not figure out where you edit the code.

So I know the image I need to replace is "myslogan.jpg".

I found it in the index template.php.file.  If I want to replace the image, should I go to my file loader on my webhost, delete the myslogan jpg, and upload the one I want in its place, and just change the code to the jpg I would like, or is there a different way to do it?

I would like to change two things on this theme:

Put in my own club logo (replace "myslogan.jpg")  and change all the yellow text to red.  Is the text an image file because I can not find any code that matches up with yellow.  I only see FFFFFF which is white I believe and 00000 which is black, but I do not see code for yellow.

Any help would be appreciated!

Post by: slowdive on March 23, 2010, 10:20:13 PM
Since no one seems to be responding, I will put my progress in case anyone else has the same question.

I've discovered you can locate "myslogan.jpg" on you file manager and simply change the name of the image you would like in its place to myslogan.jpg and upload it.  This was an old HTML trick that I guess still works.

I am still working on changing the yellow text to red, but I do not understand why the author would use so many CSS files instead of one big file.  I thought the idea of CSS was 1 file for all of your HTML, but maybe it has changed since it was introduced back in the day.

Title: Re: BlackRainV.2
Post by: slowdive on March 23, 2010, 10:29:47 PM
So I finally found the yellow font color: F1C534.  For some reason before I could not edit the CSS, but now I can.  Maybe the file was corrupted on the original install.

I guess I will just use the find function in Firefox and manually replace the code with my selected color.  I would think there would be a better way in this day an age, but I am unaware of it.

The most reliable reason as to why nobody has replied, is because the world has time zones, and people have lives outside of this site.
The usual waiting period for a reply ranges from 1min to 24hrs depending on the thread, then it is suggested that you bump the thread if no reply to your query has been posted 'after' the 24hr frame.
Good on you for finding the solutions to your questions :)

OK I am using black rain v2.

I have been manually looking up hex colors to find all the yellow in the theme and I am trying to change it to red.

Is there a better way, since there are several different codes used for yellow in the theme?

The only areas I have not bee able to change are:  Changing font color of date bar / Forum Stats bar/ users online bar

Where is the code located to modify these colors?

I have included a screen print to show the areas I am trying to change from Yellow to red.

First off Crip kudos for the great theme!
I read through most of this thread and im still a little unsure on how to add a tab for access to my gallery.

I installed the Aeva Media mod and im able to see the tab "Media" when using the SMF Default theme. But this tab disappears when changing back to Black Rain V2.
Im running SMF 1.1.11

Any info on how to do this and what file requires modification would be appreciated.

I linked here from your website through the "support link" you provided.  No need to be hostile.  Are other people allowed to help or is that not allowed either?  I asked your permission to modify it before I started making changes.

My questions are easy to answer for someone with experience.  I just wanted to know what file the code is in, so I can change it, since I do not see the code in the index.css or the rtl.css, I thought someone could take 1 minute to help me out rather than scold me for asking.

You mention adding to the current array. I dont see that line of code anywhere in the index.template.php file.
Granted that was 3 years ago, so im assuming things have changed.

Im sure a lot of other people have done this and im hoping that maybe somebody anybody? would help out a poor noob find his way through this.

Would this still apply when using the Black Rain V2 theme?

LOTL
This is from the 1.1.x version index.template.php - mine has had a few manual modifications, so the line number may not be the same as yours, but it will be extremely close to it. look around line 400 to 416 for the following code.
if (in_array($context['current_action'], array('search', 'admin', 'calendar', 'profile', 'mlist', 'register', 'login', 'help', 'pm', 'arcade')))
$current_action = $context['current_action'];
  replace it with this-
if (in_array($context['current_action'], array('search', 'admin', 'calendar', 'profile', 'mlist', 'register', 'login', 'help', 'pm', 'arcade', 'gallery')))
$current_action = $context['current_action'];

then add this in the menu array
// the [SMF Gallery] button
if ($context['allow_smfgallery_view'])
echo '<li', $current_action == 'gallery' ? ' id="chosen"' : '', '><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=gallery"><span>' , $txt['smfgallery_menu'] , '</span></a></li>';

Thanks Busterone,
I saw that in the post i linked to from earlier in this thread. I cant find that exact code in the latest BRV2 index.template.php or in the index.template.php of the original SMF theme.

Am i missing something here? On another note, can you recommend an easy to use php editor. I used one a year or so ago when working on another website while integrating a different photo gallery.

Thanks

It is there, or definitely should be.  I recommend notepad++. It is light, but powerful, also free.
download the index.template.php file to your computer, make a copy, then edit in the event something goes wrong.

Ok so it did show up after i installed Notepad++. I was searching for it using good ole notepad and could not find it.
So i made the changes, uploaded via FTP and its not showing the new button on my site.
The file size on the host is different from whats on my computer.
Do i have to use a CHMOD command to overwrite?

Thanks for the Notepad++ tip.

same deal Busterone the file size thing must just be the file size on disk or something. I downloaded the one from the host that i previously uploaded and compared it the modified one and it is the same file.

CHMOD issue maybe? Code not quite right?
The Aeva Gallery mod is working great with the default SMF theme, bit i would really like to stick with the BRV2 theme.

I apologize, the menu code I gave you was for the SMF gallery, not Aeva.
I have never installed Aeva on 1.1.x, only on 2.0.
Scrap the earlier code. (hope you did make a backup copy of the original as I suggested)
Try this instead, but I am not 100 percent sure if it will work. You may need to ask in the Aeva support topic if it doesn't.
look for // the [member] list button
add before -
// Aeva Media
if (allowedTo('aeva_access'))
echo '<li', $current_action == 'media' ? ' id="chosen"' : '', '><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=media"><span>' , $txt['aeva_gallery'] , '</span></a></li>';

You may change whatever you like (Crip may correct me if I'm wrong, but it is usually the case with themes), so long as you leave the themes copyright in tact.
You may change it to something like "BlackRainV.2 modified by ReneeH" or whatever.
With mods, if you are using the SMF 1 branch, most will need to be manually modified to work on "custom" themes. With the SMF 2 branch, only a few mods may need edits to your 'custom' themes templates.

The theme is awesome and everyone love it, but I noticed that using the SimplePortal every block, the Announcement, the Side Blocks, etc has the down scroll bar, this takes the whole look out of the theme making look not that nice. But if I switch to the Default, everything looks fine with no scroll bars.

/* The Frame borders that wrap around BLACKRAIN-V2.
------------------------------------------------------- */
/* Outside borders left.
------------------------------------------------------- */
#ob1 {
border-top: 1px solid #7c7c7c;
border-right: 1px solid #111111;
border-bottom: 1px solid #111111;
border-left: 1px solid #7c7c7c;
background: #3c3c3c  url(../images/brain.jpg) repeat top left;
padding: 8px 8px 30px 8px;

Hello Crip,

Thank you for a wonderful theme.  I am somewhat new to all of this but have done well in modifying some stuff so far but I do have some things I just cannot figure out and it's driving me insane....hahahahaha.  I hate asking because I'm one of those that just keeps going and going until I figure it out and I usually can but I'm at my wits end or just tired after days of trying.  So I will try to explain as clearly as I can what I am wanting, please excuse my not knowing techie lingo. Anywho...

I could not find a thread for the BlackRainV.3 which is what I have on SMF 1.1.11.

Here are the items I'm trying to change:

1)  I changed the plain black background to an image that matches my site but the part in the dark gray middle (that appears to float) I want to scroll but not the background.  So I guess what I need is the background image to be fixed to fit any screen resolution but not scroll but the center area to scroll.   Oh and I want to widen that dark gray center as well, sill have some background showing on each side but just not as much how about half that side background that is showing is what I want showing or I think I do, I may do it and go ick back to original but I would like to see what it would look like for I would like the forum area wider.

2)  I have also changed the text color to match my site as well, so no more orange but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change the hover color on the toolbar (Home, Profile, Admin, etc.), it's still orange.

3)  I've not even begun to think about changing buttons yet (new, unread, etc.) so I may be back with questions on that or maybe not but... unless you want to supply some basics on that as well.

Here is a screenshot:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi38.tinypic.com%2F2agso9.jpg&hash=6eddf1ada9f4abade39bf134e25451638a504ec8)

If I have not been clear or you need additional information, let me know and I'll post it ASAP.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.  Or anyone for that matter!!!!.

MV ,
You need to post this question on the correct theme board -- BR3 is not BR2 ...

Ok, sorry I could not find the BRV.3 thread early so instead of search as v3 I just searched by Black Rain and found it...D'oh.  Ok, reposting there with some of it deleted for I figured one of these things out.

Thanks and sorry.

Very cool, I like this mod.  Is there any way that I can move it between my shoutbox and my forums?
Like so:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi55.tinypic.com%2Fbfpcj.png&hash=00c0069a10aca7283c1f9fec7541e653c4a974a0)

I want to put streaming video from different sites in it and this would be a lot better than changing code every time.
Please let me know if anyone has any ideas!

I am using 1.1.11 and BlackRainV.2 theme

Thanks in advanced,
duder673

I just looked over the mod you referred to. Look at the manual parsing instructions on the mod's download page. It appears that the mod adds code to your boardindex.template.php  I haven't installed the mod myself, so look at the code that the mod inserts and where it inserts it. It is added right above the users online. You should be able to move it elsewhere.

Thank you for your reply.  Yeah I did that but I couldn't do it successfully.  I got far enough that I used the code and put above the section where the shoutbox is and CustomBox was added underneath the shoutbox but it added two different "Custom Box" frames and it was in the right frame.  I could not figure out how to keep it as it was at the base of the forum (in the single "Custom Box" frame) and then have it above the shoutbox.

No, it doesn't work correctly from all I know of the coding.  I do not know how to get this setup and I basically need instructions or I will just have to give up on it.

Well, I'm afraid it's nog that easy. Or I'm doing something totally wrong.
Ive installed everything again, this time first smf 1.1.11 and then the blackrain theme.
And then installed TP.
Again everything works splendid with the Default theme and babylon.
It shows in default theme the portal button and the forum button in the menu, in Babylon there was no forum button but I had one from the old installation so thats fixed.

But in Blackrain there's no button at all, nor the space for the button in the menu.

Did I Installed the wrong version of Blackrain or is it usual to do this manually in this versions of SMF?

I remember there used to be a TP Blackrain version for the older smf versions in the past.

Ok, thanks Crip!
Finally got the idea, the Theme does both the portal and the forum, but just not the buttons in the menu and those you copy+paste in yourself. :) Did it and works fantastic!
It took me a while going through all the pages but had to do it 'cause I was just afraid to do something wrong by pasting things in myself while it was supposed to happen automatically ;)
But now I'm a happy person again .  8)

Hi,
i've checked my forum error log and i got this result:

8: Undefined index: REQUEST_URL
File: /wowspaces.com/htdocs/Sources/Subs.php

and these are the lines in question from the sub:
// For session check verfication.... don't switch browsers...
   $_SESSION['USER_AGENT'] = $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'];

   // Hand off the output to the portal, etc. we're integrated with.

      call_user_func($modSettings['integrate_exit'], $do_footer && !WIRELESS);

I have two subs.php in the sources folder , one original and the other changed
Title: Re: BlackRainV.2
Post by: busterone on December 11, 2010, 10:16:28 AM
If this is tied to the registration issue that you posted about earlier, then it is definitely not a theme issue.
The two subs.php in your sources folder is normal if you have installed any mods to your forum.
One is subs.php, and the other will be subs.php~ , which is the original before the mod installation.
I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but you still need to follow my instructions and post your issue in the 1.1.x support board instead of here.
This topic is for theme issues with Crip's theme.  If you post in the support board for 1.1.x, your issue will be seen by many more that may be able to help you, and much quicker than here. Many of the coders and support helpers may not even look in this topic unless they use this theme themselves.   :)

Can you help with a little problem? I have attached two pictures to depict the bug better. First pictures is with Google Chrome and the second one is with Mozzila. As you can see the tabs are a bit outside of the outlines of the forum when opned with Mozzila.

Hi Crip,

Your Black Rain V2 is a favorite with the members of my small music recording forum. Following directions elsewhere on this site, I've managed to install 3 additional buttons 'Forum', 'Chat' and 'Music', between the 'Home' and 'Help' buttons. The Chat and Music buttons open in new windows via 'Target' option; the 'Forum' button is in anticipation of installing a Portal one day and having a way to bring up the SMF forums.

The buttons work fine on my test site, with one minor problem, the alignment of the Home button is now off. I tried to post a cropped screen shot of the button alignment, but I can't post images here, yet. Basically, the Home button is about half its height above the rest of the buttons - as if it is aligning to the top of the graphic and the rest are aligning to the middle?

I'm afraid the extent of my programming skills are to follow line by line instructions  :-[ and I can't figure out how to realign them.

I'm running SMF 1.1.13, with the Stop Spammer, Not Captcha, Aeva Lite, httpBL (Honeypot), Ignore Another Uer and Flashchat Integration mods.

Thanks in advance for helping an old guy out, Crip!  :)

Jack

Thanks. Spent a few minutes staring at it this morning and finally spotted the problem. I had copied the code for creating the 'Home' button to make the 'Forum' button, changing the text to Forum and adding an ?action=forum command ... in doing so, I didn't notice the UL tag, so basically I had a 2nd, unclosed UL tag embedded within the strip of menu buttons that caused the offset. Getting rid of the second UL tag has the buttons lining up nicely.

Again, thanks for a nice theme, Crip.

Hello Crip,

I absolutely love this theme as it is highly consistent with the subject matter of the board. My only question, for now, is one asked earlier but I think he figured it out so I didn't get to see the answer. So...

The easiest way, is to replace the myslogan.jpg file with your own in the Themes/BlackRainV2/images/ directory.

It's a 430x88 jpg file, easily loaded into your paint/photo program and modified with your own logo.

Thank you very much. The only thing I need to clarify is I've saved the "blackrain" logo to my desktop so that I can just replace it entirely with my own logo but keep it the same size, but how do I get my new banner from my computer onto the forum?

I really like the Filezilla FTP client. It's free, runs on PC, and configures easily with settings your Host provider gives you.

http://filezilla-project.org/

Basically you need the URL of your FTP server. Account login name. Account password. And port.

Or perhaps your Website host has a Control Panel (CPanel) and file manager there, where you can locate the file on your PC in one window, and target directory in another window and then just press a transfer / upload button.

There is a Single <Table> in the {index.template.php} , this is where you can change Logos/Banners

<table width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0">
         <tr>
   <td align="center"><a href="'.$scripturl.'" title="', $context['forum_name'], '"><img src="', $settings['images_url'], '/myslogan.jpg" style="margin: 2px;" alt="', $context['forum_name'], '" /></a>
          </td>
   </tr>
     </table>

Thank you both for your help. I am extremely green when it comes to situations such as this so I went with the cPanel method. I was able to change my logo by uploading my image under the same name and clicking "yes" when it asked me if I wanted to overwrite the "myslogan.jpg" that was already there. Again, thank you both for your help.

Edit: Sorry, one final question. I saved the "myslogan.jpg" image and just edited it with what I wanted under the assumption that I had to work with the same size. The banner is quite small though and if I wanted a larger banner, would it accomodate for a larger "myslogan.jpg" image?

Yes , i have saw BRv2 with some huge logo/banners => in "height" => as far as "Width'' , just adjust your overall theme Width until it fits..

all you have to do as admin is to hit your default theme by adding this to your url.

In the future, deleting theme folders/files through your cpanel file manager or via FTP does not uninstall a theme from SMF. It must be uninstalled through the forum's admin area first, then you can delete the theme folder if you want to.

I ended up figuring it out on my own but it took a long time. I am slowly getting use to administrating my own forum even though I have been an administrator on another forum for years now. I added the banner and the space for the banner adjusted itself accordingly.

The coloured bars, such as the orange bars for global moderators, are there other options such as say a purple bar that can be used for a special membergroup?

Crip, just wondering if there was any major changes to the theme as it was made 2.0 compatible.

I've been running BRv2 on 2.0Rc5 for a long time and have made some css changes to it, but was wondering if you changed anything that I need to be aware of as I upgrade from SMF 2.0RC5 to 2.0....or if I can keep running the theme version I have.

Thanks in advance

But now I got a little problem:

I have followed every step in this tutorial: http://simpleportal.net/index.php?PHPSESSID=0d29a09725d519a109910e6b62e3d364&topic=148

But now, my 'Home' button looks like this, where it's supposed to show all the Blocks.

Attatched is my index.template.php

hi,
you could try adding all new Templates except , the "(Index.Template.php)"  and then manually install the mod -- that's what I would do..?

What do you mean adding all new templates except the index.template.php file ?

The part about manually installing the mod I get, I've done that before with other mods for different reasons.

I assume you read it right, I jut dont get what you mean by adding all new templates. Do you mean take clean copies of the files that are erroring from say the default theme and use them as replacements in this theme ?

If that's what you meant, wont that interfere in some way with the way this theme looks / works ?

If not, then why have these custom files for this theme if they could just use copies form the default theme ?

Assuming you're using SMF2 MoreBloodWine, you can do this in the Subs.php file where the menu array is. More info on how to add a button is here.
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Buttons_-_How_do_I_add_buttons_to_SMF_2.0

You can remove a button by removing the code, or commenting it out.

Or if you want to just do it per theme you can add something like this to the template_menu() function in the index.template.php file of the theme. This drops the home button from the menu array before it gets output in the menu. Put this code right after the global line in that function.

unset($context['menu_buttons']['home']);

Should be able to do the same with the forum button.

Anyone happen to know how to get the banner (myslogan.jpg) to re-size with the window/resolution?

As in when you make the browser smaller the banner doesn't fit anymore, it's to wide and stretches outside the width of the forum

Example:

For the first , the spacing/margin issue look in your themes index.css,

Around Line 1820 and play with the margin value.
And if you add background color property your message will get other background color

.postarea {
  margin-left: 14%;
background-color : #FFFFFF;
}

But the part you pointing at is just margin I think. And part of:
.windowbg, #preview_body, .content, .roundframe {
    background-color: #000000;
    color: #000000;

Index.css line 401. But that will change much more back areas.

For the second in your themes folder  look in Display.template.php (backup your file first ofcourse) and around line 391 remove:

<div class="smalltext">&#171; <strong>', !empty($message['counter']) ? $txt['reply_noun'] . ' #' . $message['counter'] : '', ' ', $txt['on'], ':</strong> ', $message['time'], ' &#187;</div>

Above is in my BlackRain V2 version, just below section:
<h5 id="subject_', $message['id'], '">
<a href="', $message['href'], '" rel="nofollow">', $message['subject'], '</a>
</h5>

In the default SMF theme with no mods installed its at line 415.

Onfortunately the one who knows best,  the original designer Crip (http://www.jpr62.com/theme/index.php) wont be able to answer himself anymore.
May he rest in piece and lets all be grateful for his work.
