Title: Feature Request for Mambo SMF Bridge
Post by: tallman on November 02, 2004, 01:41:23 PM
It would be very useful to have the option of adding a link to a content item which allows you to discuss the article in a forum. This would be similar to the Discuss Content mambot for Simpleboard by Two Shoes Module Factory which can be found at http://mamboforge.net/frs/?group_id=24. You can see it being used at http://www.tsmf.jigsnet.com (just look at the bottom of any news article). Not only should it be implemented as a mambot but it should also be done in a way that optionally allows the "Discuss this article..." link to automatically appear on all content items. This way, you wouldn't have to do it for each article that is posted.

I think you easily can make that module by using ssi.

Something like "Related Topics"?  I have made this module, just not made it public.  Check it out here, on the right-hand side:

I think he means adding a link up at the top (like the PDF, print and email links) that would automatically go to a message thread in SMF if it exists or create on if it didn't exist.

Perhaps, have a seperate board-forum set for discussion topics, have the link start a topic (or search for an existing topic) with the same name as the news item.

Acutally, now that I think about it, this should be fairly simple to implement, in terms of the SMF calls...   the Mambo addition is something I know nothing about, however.

I haven't done much with Mambots, but that should be possible.

Gee, yesterday I thought the same - that "discuss this article in SMF" would be a great feature. Came here to write a request, but here it is before me. Wise people think alike. :D

As I know, this mambot (Two Shoes) allows the user to create a forum topic titled "Discussion of {section name} article {decr. from article title}", and after that checks for answers added.
First string of created topic contains the address (URL) of original Article, or intro text with "read more", without its full contents (because if article has 20000+ symbols, it could be a problem), then goes <hr>, and then message area.

Orstio, if you create such a mambot for SMF - the whole bridge could become the one of the best CMS-to-forum bridge ever done, IMHO.

This is exactly what I'm talking about.

So, is there any chance of getting such a feature in near future?

I have contacted the person who made that MOSBot for Simpleboard.  I think it can be done with just a few changes to the SQL queries.  ;)
