I just downloaded the SMF bridge for Mambo but am unsure as to where all the different files go. Can someone help me? I already have both Mambo and SMF on my server.
Well, you can install the component and module files for Mambo directly from the zips on your local PC. This will ensure that Mambo recognizes the files and puts them in the right places.
The placement of other files (and the files you need to edit) are clearly spelled out in the readme text files.
Where can I install them? Which folder?
Chris,
Did you read the manual for Mambo?
You do not install them. You extract all the files from the main zip file.
Then you run Mambo administrator
then you install the components
then you install the module(s)
then you follow the instructioons in the readme files.
Goodness. Yes, I have read documentation. I know how Mambo works, thank you. I am wondering WHERE to extract the files. Where do I upload them?
EDIT: Typo.
Do I even have to upload them?
No. that's the point. If you run the component install form the admin menu, Mambo takes the ZIP file, extracts it and installs it in the proper location.
You then have to go and edit some of the files to point to correct locations and edit the mambo template to include the login calls.

If you know how Mambo works, you should have no problem. Unzip the bridge v2.02 on your computer. From your Mambo admin panel:
Install the components:
com_smf
com_smf_registration
Install the module:
mod_smf_login
Follow the instructions in the readme's. That's all.
Oh, I see. I can upload them from my computer; in the past I have installed modules in another fashion. Thanks very much!
