Submission #5
Subject: On your Birthday...
We could have sent you a birthday card. We could have sent you some flowers or a cake.
But we didn't.
We could have even sent you one of those automatically generated messages to wish you happy birthday where we don't even have to replace INSERT NAME.
But we didn't
We wrote this birthday greeting just for you.
We would like to wish you a very special birthday.

{REGARDS} - The salutation line. (I.E. Regards, The {FORUMNAME} Team)
Good luck finalists!
Is there a required post group for voting? It would explain why I can not. :(
Sorry about that. Turns out that this board didn't allow people to vote in polls. That has been corrected.
Nice job, finalists..
Voted :) Thanks again to SMF development team for their enduring endeavor in this fabulous project.
*votes* Awesome xD
I love the irony within Submission 5... :)

Mines to :)
This was a tough choice.
What's with "another year in yourlife have passed" cr@p? Gosh like I would need to be reminded of that?!
Voted. I voted #6 :P
I'd prefer it to be do-able by the owner of the forum.
I think there might be a thing where you can edit the language files as you want, but I'm not too sure on it.
Even if there isnt, you can still edit the language files manually if you want.

To be honest, I can't really say I find any of the alternatives suitable as a default greeting, so I think I'll have to pass on this poll...
Not that I think we'd actually use this feature on our forum, so that's probably just fair, but whatever happened to the "Simple" in SMF? :-X
Yeap. Voted!
I voted for Submission *explosion drowns out my voice*. :)
when does the voting end
According to the poll:

Good luck to all the finalists though.
May I ask how many entrants vs entries there were in total? ;)
72 total entries from 38 members.
well thats probably quite alot considering they probably only have a handful of people writing all the duff greetings cards for Hallmark. ;)
I wanted to submit
"You're the birthday,
you're the birthday,
you're the birthday boy or girl <tail falls off and catches fire>"
But I'm a team member. And was disqualified from entering. :P

Even though I've voted, I didn't like any of the 5 submissions... Cmon they could have been better!
My choice sure was the one that is between 1 - 5 :P

Yeah I agree. I not to be mean didnt like any, the one I picked was bad, none were good. They were boring :|
I hope for the fact if you did not like any of them that you had at least entered a submission a month ago when it started :P
I voted for... mmh... don't remember... :P

It won't. There's still plenty of bug fixes to be done and plenty of juicy features to go in yet. ;)

I agree, the whole thread seems unfortunately like those post whoring threads you see on lesser forums.
oh well, at least somebody cares.
Well, that's ridiculous.
Just shows how (not) grown up the SMF community is.
I mean don't get me wrong, it is funny and such, but including it in the software? That's ridiculous.
Do you really want to send out this message to your friends? How about if your users are not friends?
Congrats for the SMF team for a very nice initiative, less congrats for the user community for being so childish. :P
One more item in my smf install todo list. :-\

exactly!
Honestly, of all of the submissions entered, the winning one in this poll is the one that scored the highest in my book.
For those of you complaining (aside from SMF Teamies and Friends, since we couldn't submit any entries), did you even bother submitting your own unique entry? If not, then you have no grounds to complain, as this contest was open to *everyone* not on the SMF team or listed as a Friend.
For the record, I was less than impressed with 95% of the entries. Whomever submitted #5, congrats, you got me to chuckle at that one. :)
Good luck
I definitely laughed at it :)
im just not sure how well received it'd be.
I don't think it'll matter
I'm getting way too serious :P

No, I didn't bother to submit an entry because this is a feature I don't intend to use (I really don't see its value as a default feature either), and frankly, I thought you'd get hundreds of simple and neutral greetings to choose from anyway... Looking at the entries which got through to the poll, I guess I was wrong though, and even if it doesn't matter to me personally, I can't help but feel a bit embarrassed on SMF's behalf.

Stop attacking. If I had submitted something you would say that I'm complaining because it wasn't mine that won the contest. Only the ones who submitted entries have the right to complain?
I am not english speaking person so I left the submissions to do someone else, hoping that someone will submit something good. And they did, the number 4 seemed pretty good.
Besides, I do like the one that SMF has now.
My complaints are towards the SMF user base, not the team.
Anyway, as a voting result it's really not significative. If you look at it only a third of the people want that submission, and 2 third doesn't wants it (or want something else). It would be the winner only if it got more then 50% of the votes. Having one third requesting it is not a majority.
Usually there's another voting poll for the two highest ranked. The one that ranks higher between the two will be the winner.
There's going to be another round?

There's going to be another round?
I don't think so, I think that submission 5 is now the default birthday greeting. :(
Or how about trying to mix good parts of all submissions into one perfect birthday greeting?
