check out http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=19437.0

a few of us have the mambo <-> SMF <-> Coppermine going (using Orstio's 2.0.3 bridge) and several of us have various chats also integrated.

Well, the first thing is, you need to install Mambo.

Go through the Mambo installation.
Be certain to use the same database that you used for SMF.

Now, install Coppermine.   Follow the instructions in Coppermine regarding integration... it comes with a SMF integration module, which uses the SMF userbase for Coppermine.
After installation, you will have to go and set your user groups access from within Coppermine.

I use x7Chat...   which is a nice one, but has a few quirks. The integration module for x7Chat is actually for SMFbeta5, so it may need some tweaking for RC2.
I know Orstio uses a different chat system, but I'm not sure how he got it integrated.

Now that all that is installed, (and you have read the Mambo manual!) go into Mambo Admin and install the components and modules for Orstio's Mambo-SMF bridge.

Mambo is very configurable, with all the components, modules and Mambots...  so you'll have to pick the ones you want to actually use for your look and feel.
