this is awesome thanks!!

is there a way to make the password box hidden? so the user has to click on it to get it to expand? maybe a password popup?

and is there a way to stop the topics in there being visible? including from the recent list?

AND POSTS MADE IN THE PASSWORDED BOARDS CAN BE VIEWED IN THE USERS PROFILES!! <tested on "tester" non admin/mod accounts
that totally defeats the purpose. now im disappointed :(

No need,
Currently I am trying to take my free time on it as much as I can. And I think I found the rope.

I'll try to release the nest version as soon as I can. But it might take a bit time.

can we make it so that EVERYONE, even administrators need a password to get into the protected forums?
and can we make changing the password require knowledge of a secret questions answer, AND/OR the old password?

cause if were going to make them private, they should be just that; only letting in those with the required information (password).

Also, does this mod work on Sub-Boards? That is one of the MAJOR things I want to work. It helps when it comes to Private Sub-boards in a RP community.

I think yes. You can always try.
Title: Re: Password Protect Boards
Post by: Amun on October 04, 2007, 06:25:17 PM
The novelty of this mod could be rather amusing, to say if you wanted to tease forum members with a board they can not enter, otherwise the mod is pointless and not needed. All you have to do to make a board private is make a new member group (or use an existing one) with only the permissions to access it.

And as Alundra requested if you want to hide it from even the admins than make two admin groups (the main admin aka owner of the forum) and another admin group. Ofcourse the main admin will still be able to view the private boards but other admins won't.

I actually have this and private boards like it on my forum. Myself being the main admin / owner can see them but I don't look and its kinda funny cause on my site we got this thing if one of the members is making a post on their private board they will put a * infront of the title so when it appears in the recent topics I won't click on it by a mistake. So unless your main admin is a nosey untrustworthy person this will work fine does for us!
Title: Fairly major bug/omission
Post by: HokieTT on October 05, 2007, 09:57:36 AM
There is a fairly major bug or omission in this mod, which I otherwise find very useful.  If you view a member's profile and then click on "Show the last posts of this person", it even shows posts they made in the password protected boards!  Can someone address this before all my users discover? ;)

When I protect a forum with a password, if there is a sub-forum inside, the sub-forum stays without protecting!!!

A user can accede to the sub-forum skipping the principal forum!!!!

Somebody can fix-it?

I have installed the mod and I see a BIG reason to have it.  If you are letting people create and manage their own boards, then they can assign a password and send it to invitees.

However, I have a problem in modifying the code for Heavy Metal theme:

You say:

In /Themes/<YourTheme>/ManageBoards.template.php
Find:
Code:

   // Finish off the table.

I cannot find this in any of my theme files.  I have:

images
languages
BoardIndex.template.php
Display.template.php
index.php
index.template.php
style.css
theme_info.xml

I've searched all my files for this phrase but can't find it.  Could it say something different?

Thanks and plese help.  I really need this mod.

Title: Re: Password Protect Boards
Post by: Texas Liberty Lady on December 12, 2007, 12:12:19 PM
My boards all get locked with the same password that I entered for one board.  I am not doing the mods in the theme as it crashed my forum once.  But I thought it would still work even if theme was not modified.  I'm new so I'm a complete idiot.  I'm probably overlooking something.

QuoteError in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

Looks like another mod of yours is intefaring, install it and then do the manual changes required in Subs-Boards.php
See SMF Package Parser (http://modparser.dev.dansoftaustralia.net) To now what all changes to do.

before i go tinkering  :o
can i clarify.
i have a members area and only certain member groups can use this area
if i install this mod i can also make the member group use a password to access and use the area
also once they have logged into one of the boards would all the other boards in that category be usable without having to log into each one
i want to use this mod as an added extra security
Title: Re: Password Protect Boards 0.2 released
Post by: Dragooon on March 30, 2008, 07:13:53 AM
Each board has an seperate password and one person can only enter that board with the board's correct PW and not the other boards.
But this mod saves the login info in a session so that they don't have to login again and again in the board.

hello, congratulations for your mod.
I have a small and strange problem with it. I have assignned a password at a sub-forum but when I get into the container forum, the sub-forum doesn't appear if I'm not admin or with the cookie defined.

-Board
--Sub-board:with password ---> it isn't shown if I haven't got permissions.

Take a look.

Attach your MessageIndex.php here, and to set a password you need to go to modify boards area.

Hmmm - I thought I would be able to add this through the admin panel - but it is not there. I guess because it
is still labeled for 1.1.4. I have no idea how to add this on my own......... So I guess I will have to wait and see if
it gets updated for 1.1.5

Thanks

Hi LadyC

How did you install it?
Title: Re: Password Protect Boards 0.2 released
Post by: LadyC on May 31, 2008, 12:24:30 AM
through the package manager. BUT.... i've got two forums that i've installed it on. it worked on the newest board, which doesn't have many mods added yet. the older board that has tons of mods doesn't work so well. it was a 1.1.4...i end up with a whole lot of code showing at the top of the forum when i try to install it on that one, and the password field for each board doesn't appear where it should on that one either. so i upgraded the board to 1.1.5 and the exact same error was occurring.

so, i KNOW it works on 1.1.5, at least if it's got minimal mods. and i know that for me, it doesn't work in either version if it has tons of mods. i may try a manual install on the older board next week.

i've been totally cursed lately. i swear my midas touch has failed LOL.

Gee - I'm not able to install this

I am a total newbie at using the package manager....

I have SMF 1.1.5 installed - I want to download Password Protect Boards

I went to Package Manager found Password Protect Boards and I click download - I receive the error message "The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF."

I then tried the URL for Location of file and I receive this error "The mod you have requested has not been approved yet for downloads."

???

Hello,

I have what will probably seem like an unusual request.

I am interested in the Password Protect Boards mod, but I'd like to use the older version, that works with SMF 1.1.1 (I have tried the current version, but no luck).

Upgrading SMF is not possible for me, because it is linked through a component with Joomla, and since no new "bridges" between SMF and Joomla are developped for newer versions, I am permanently stuck with the version I have.

But I'd still like to use the older version of this mod, that works with SMF 1.1.1. Can you help me with that please? Thanks!

Hey whats up? Nice mod, :)   but i am getting some errors here plus i can not see the password form on the out side of the board under the title like it does on the default core theme. and in IE and not in FF plus there is no text on the buttons nor on the password form to let them know to enter a password or even what it is. All it does after you click that certain password protected board is go to a password (so called) page with the pass box and submit button in it with a title above it as "an error occured"

here are a cople of the errors i am getting

8: Undefined index: passwdBoard4
File: /forum/Themes/default/passwdBoard.template.php (main sub template - eval?)
Line: 24

8: Undefined index: passwdBoard3
File: /forum/Themes/default/passwdBoard.template.php (main sub template - eval?)

and even for the admin account

Line: 413

8: Undefined index: passwdBoard1
File: /forum/Themes/default/ManageBoards.template.php (modify_board sub template - eval?)
Line: 412

mostly it seems from the test NON admin or mod account... and only happens with Admin account when i go to that board and set the pass in the form when i view it... etc etc

Can anybody help on this one ??

I am at the time using a modified LAYOUT / STYLE LOOK version of my own of Black Rain v.2 (but not that modified) plus only have like 4 mods on the forum including this one.

I once had a problem something like this with the delete inactive members mod also where the text did not show and gave me errors when i view the pages with the new added forms from the new mod that was added such as above... etc etc

any help?? I could really use this mod for sure.... and thanks alot in advanced :)

Ok guys one last minor bug and the mod is flying!

1)  Only administrators can see the child board from its natural location , members and global moderators can only see it from the child board link on the forum index.

What i mean:(3 sections)

My members see this: (http://imageshack.gr/files/fsylgexjr765j5wff2o4.jpg) (http://imageshack.gr/view.php?file=fsylgexjr765j5wff2o4.jpg)

when i see this:(4 sections)

(http://imageshack.gr/files/jsv6ham82dxa7ekfnll5.jpg) (http://imageshack.gr/view.php?file=jsv6ham82dxa7ekfnll5.jpg)

But on the forum index we all see this child board:

(http://imageshack.gr/files/6p2zx2sohjt7z4bxa69t.jpg) (http://imageshack.gr/view.php?file=6p2zx2sohjt7z4bxa69t.jpg)

Some file , somewhere has a [is_admin] that probably has to be removed so that ALL members can view the section.

If you still dont get what i mean this is my forum:

www.kamenos.gr   go to movies section , go in and tell me how many sections you see. Normally you see 3(mOvies,Tv Series and Anime) when me and my admins see 4. Thats what i need fixed.

I didnt try to remove it and i dont want to either , it is working fine right now. Its just one more thing that it needs to be perfect. I want it to be visible when you enter the movies section and not only from the child board mark on the forum index.

Its a manual code thing i have to do but i dont know where i have to do it.

no just make up / download those edited files you did as back up and then remove.. then once you figure it out or if thats the issue as he is saying or asking above you can always re-upload those files you edited that took two hours and over right the other ones so it will be right back in the same oder and working condisions as before you removed it.

NOTE: Just cause you uninstall it does mean it will hurt the work you did. as it is still saved in those files and is still there, just not installed working. then all you have to do is click install again and if will install it right back the way it was with the files edited and all like you had them.

use FTP client and just back those file you edited up that way you do not have to do them again.

but most likely the problem is probably cause you edited them wrong in the code maybe. So might just be a good thing anyways to re-edit them / change them all over again fresh.

Now my members can see everything...but now i lost the password feature.

How can i add it again making sure it wont cause the same problems ?

Hi,

I have a problem with this mod in my board: it seems like local admins on the password-protected board cannot quote. Clicking on the quoting buttons just act like "do nothing" for those.

As an admin I can quote perfectly, and also members who are asked for the password on "logging in" to this specific board can quote as usually.

The local admins get an error that "the topic doesn't exist or they don't have access to it".

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thx
Davy

Hi Dragooon,

not sure if I understand your request: before I installed the mod everything worked fine with quoting, no matter which role the users had.

If I remove the moderators from this board (and therefore they have to enter the password), they again can quote perfectly.

Now that the mod is installed, and the acess rights in the password-prot. board are inherited from global rights, I expect the problem to be in the mod itself.

Thx
Davy

Line: 21

8: Undefined index: passwdBoard5
File: /public_html/forum/Sources/passwdBoard.php
Line: 10

and even for the admin account

8: Undefined index: passwdBoard2
File: /forum/Themes/default/ManageBoards.template.php (modify_board sub template - eval?)

I once had a problem something like this with the delete inactive members mod also where the text did not show and gave me errors when i view the pages with the new added forms from the new mod that was added such as above... etc etc

any help?? I could really use this mod for sure.... and thanks alot in advanced :)

oohh by the way, im using 1.1.5

bumpers ::::

bumpers again. and im using english. can some body throw me some help here please .. thxs :)

Uninstalled the mod and now my tree is missing from the forum tree.

For example here in this thread the tree is

imagine if it was

Customizing SMF > Modifications and Packages >

Thats what happened to me , the "Forum" is missing. Any ideas whats wrong ?

Any help ?

Works just great on my 1.1.6 test site so I went to install on my main site but ran into a slight snag. The last edit required for BoardIndex.template.php cannot be found in my file, least not all of it. Oh ya, almost forgot to mention that I'm using the WoW-DK (http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=78) theme.

This is what it says to look for...
/* The board's and children's 'last_post's have:
time, timestamp (a number that represents the time.), id (of the post), topic (topic id.),
link, href, subject, start (where they should go for the first unread post.),
and member. (which has id, name, link, href, username in it.) */
if (!empty($board['last_post']['id']))
echo '
<b>', $txt[22], '</b>  ', $txt[525], ' ', $board['last_post']['member']['link'] , '<br />
', $txt['smf88'], ' ', $board['last_post']['link'], '<br />
', $txt[30], ' ', $board['last_post']['time'];

This is all I can find...
/* The board's and children's 'last_post's have:
time, timestamp (a number that represents the time.), id (of the post), topic (topic id.),
link, href, subject, start (where they should go for the first unread post.),

In addition to my post above I found a bug, when you go into a board to modify it you have to make surey ou reset the password because when you hit the modify button something about the PW goes weird so before you hit save you need to re-type the PW in the PW field.

Edit: Also, it seems that guests / regular members cannot see protected child boards. The only way for them to see them is by clicking the link that shows up under the main board, what would be the fix for this ?

Go here and see for yourself: http://www.eojmarket.com/testingforums/index.php

@SiNaN
     Thx

@Dragoon
I figured I'd make another post about this but with pictures.

1. When protecting a childboard it doesnt show to anyone but admins even if you have the board permissions set to show to everyone.

2. When viewing the protected childboards as an admin the below isnt seen like it is with main boards.

I'd expect the same to be true for the next pic but since admins dont need to log in I cant test it.

Where do you get this error? At the top of your forum? If so, open the Modifications.english.php file in the languages directory and make sure that all the contents in there are between the starting and closing php tags

Yes, the error appears at the top of the forum.

But everything in modification file seems to be between the php tags.

I just install this mod and I did set a password in the admin section for a certain board. But for some reason, when I access this board as a guest, it does ask for a password but it doesn't care either I enter a password or not or even if I enter the wrong password: I always have access to that board.

Any solution???

Also update for 1.1.12, if not 2.0 RC4. I have another forum: http://nfsw.kcmartz.com and I have a "Crews" board and users can request a sub-board for a crew they own, if they have one and no other forum themselves. I added "Password" if they want to use it. I will remove that sentence until this is updated.

Please update this!

Thanks for the feedback. I will install this now on my SMF 1.1.13

As for 2.0 compatibility, it will need a new developer to take over, as the current developer has obviously abandoned his work.

That's what i was thinking also, and that's why i wrote i wish somebody could update this mod for 2.0

By the way. I checked out the "parse" function on the modsite, and this mod seems to parse ok for 2.0 RC5
But i'm not so happy with installing mods manually so i was thinking maybe it wouldn't be so hard to package those changes into a real mod package? I don't know. I don't know how to do that.

There's already a mod for 2.0 RC5, but it's not approved yet :)

There is?
That's very good news.
Could you give me a hint how to find it when it's approved?

Hi!

I run 1.1.11 and I have a limited amount of mods, but do run a modified theme and this mod worked just fine for me. Installation was easy and it did what I was hoping it would do! :D

So, this mod should work fine on 1.1.12 and 1.1.13 as well. If it doesn't, just edit the package xml file to include these newer SMF versions.

I use smf 1.1.13 and I have installed the mod manually and it works fine. The only problem is that it has increased my board length. For example if a board was 0.5cm now it is 1.5cm on length.

What can I do?

I'd love a update for this mod

I clicked on the link for the other mod by  Yağız... but it doesn't seem to exist.  :(
