I was just wondering. I don't think this has been asked before.
But, will there be a beta for the public before the actual release.
You know, just to make sure they are comfortable with it. And just to increase the rate of bug detection and removal.
Or even when you are sure the bugs have been removed and you just want to add some extra features?
Well, this is just thought..
This has been answered a lot of times.
The first Betas might not be out but the later betas/RCs will be out.
When is the actual public version planned to be released or an estimation of it?
No dates/estimations are being given for a public release.
Its a case of when its ready. When most bugs have been fixed and its stable enough.
SMF would rather wait than release buggy software.
At the moment Charter members have the beta, which provides a small group to provide a steady stream of bug reports.
The current beta 1.1 does not have all the features that smf devs say they intend to include.

The Beta 1.1 was a patch for beta 1. It was to fix the security problems.
You will have to wait for the second beta to see some of the new features :P
Is the first public going to be a beta or an RC? I would rather not install an beta on my website, but I am fine with an RC. I've been wanting to update my site and make a new theme but i wanted to wait untill SMF 2.0, it would be pointless to make the changes on 1.1 if smf 2.0 is being devoloped. It would be cool if a beta was released to us normal members at some point before the RC so we could do things like make a theme and have it ready for when an RC/final is released.
It's been said before that no release date is going to be given out, when ready its ready, but is it going to be at least within a year? hopefully 6 months at least? or is no time frame at all allowed to be given out?
No time frame will be given out, period.
The developers will do a public release when they are confident that all bugs have been worked through, and not before then. Charter Members will *always* get releases before the public does.
But could somebody say that Beta 2.0 will be available for rest users for example at he end of October or whatever. :)

Theres is no time date. You will probaly know when it will be ready. I'm sure there will be another private beta. (beta2) Than a public beta. (Maybe) I would not suggest upgrading anyway considering theres no themes/mods for it. :P
We don't give out any time estimates. There are so many variables to when the software can be released it is like working with calculus to even get a answer that might be 20% correct :P
Its ready when its ready.
Okay, you want an ETA? I am fairly confident that SMF 2.x will be made available no later than December 31st, 2025. :D
you sound so sure, Doug :P
when we know, we'll announce it... truth be told, we don't know when it'll be ready :P
Ok so I will be still look and hear this great announcement :P
:D
SMF will give it to us hopefully soon!
I find it highly unlikely that there will be a public beta in the next six months.

Damn they tricked us!
Nah they didn't. That's when one of the Long Counts ends, but there's basically an endless number of them.
