Otsikko: SMF the right solution?
Kirjoitti: Veej - lokakuu 03, 2007, 11:50:08 AP
Hello everyone!

I'm thinking of setting up a forum or some sort of online system for an online stock trading competition.

The competition has teams of 4 people and the amount of teams using the forum may be anywhere between 50 to 1000 - there are usually just under 5000 teams taking part, but I'm not sure how many will use this facility.

The aim of the forums is to provide a place where team members can privately discuss about what stocks to buy next, what to sell etc.

So far, I thought that I'd set up a form for people to apply for a private board for their team. Then I'd have to manually set up the board for the team as well as the permissions for the members included.

Is a forum like SMF the best way to go or does anyone have any other ideas?

Just a note - there is no need for this forum to integrate with the actual stock trading functions - so it's a stand-alone forum.

Thanks!

SMF can do what you want perfectly.  You can setup sections that only specific teams can maintain.  You can even setup group moderators that will be able to maintain their own sections individually without you.    It will certainly make it a lot easier to manage when you plan too have that many active groups/members.

So short answer, yes SMF is the right solution for the goal you've described.

Ah yes I got the Groups allowed to change membergroups: as a global confused with an ability to manager individual usergroups.  Sorry about that misinformation. Thx metallica.

But it seems there is a mod to perform such actions, anyways :)
