Otsikko: Backing up/restoring SMF DB newbie general question
Kirjoitti: cbmr777 - lokakuu 17, 2007, 05:15:35 IP
I had a temporary admin take over while I had a baby and I came back to all posts over 30 days old deleted. :(

I have a backup that I could use to restore but before I do, I wanted to find out if doing a restore would overwrite any new posts/members and such?  I just want to restore those old posts but keep all the recent activity, too.

TIA! :D

Unfortunately, restoring that backup would remove all of the more recent activity.

There are ways to do it but it assumes that none of the boards were removed or merged.  Even recreating those boards wouldn't work unless you made the ID the same as the old board (by manually editing it)

If you have the sql knowledge, you could take the topics from the topics and messages table, and the log_topics table, and restore the entries from it.

If you don't have the sql knowledge, you'd probably be better to rebuild the content over time.

Be careful who you give admin powers ;)  You have to specify what you want people to do and what not to do often enough.

But no, theres no easy way to do it.

None of the boards have changed.  I had it spelled out specifically what to do, but she got a little... um... carried away!

Not knowledgable enough with SQL to trust myself to do it.  Perhaps I will post for paying help.  I want to simplify my forum a bit and move/delete some boards but haven't because I wanted to get my old posts first...

Thanks!
