Title: New With Trying Conversions
Post by: lufbra on October 26, 2007, 10:26:33 AM
Hi there.

I'm new to this whole concept of converting different software to SMF, I'm also new to SMF itself. In the past I have used IPB for many years, but have kinda lost interest with the way the IPB company is "moving forward".

Anyway, I spent many hours looking into another forum software, and eventually decided upon using MyBB. After only using it for a week and spending quite a lot of time skinning the forum to how the members (and myself) liked it, it's been noticed that the forum set up is very slow at loading!

So, I'm seriously thinking about changing to SMF, and have been trying to find information regarding to how a conversion can be done. I have downloaded the conversion files, but there are no instructions included in the "package". My first question is, is the conversion file compatible with version 1.2.9 of MyBB? My second question is, is it just a matter of having a directory with SMF installed, uploading the conversion file to that directory then running it? My third question is, would I lose any modifications/plug ins/skins  that have already been added to the MyBB forum?

Please forgive me for if this kind of thing  has been posted before, I tried searching for "converting mybb" and a few other searches of similar wording, but they didn't come up with anything that helped me.

Thanks in advance. :)
